(Regulations 2017)
Time : Three Hours Maximum : 100 Marks

Answer all questions

Part – A (10×2=20 Marks)

1. Compare congestion control and flow control and list down the fields in TCP header
which are responsible for handling these issues.

2. A channel has a data rate of 4 kbps and a propagation delay of 20 ms. For what
range of frame sizes does stop and wait give an efficiency of at least 50% ?

3. State the limitations of IP based network. How the deficit in providing QoS was
handled in this network ?

4. A computer on a 10 Mbps network is regulated by a token bucket. The token bucket

is filled at a rate of 2 Mbps. It is initially filled to capacity with 16 Megabits. What
is the maximum duration for which the computer can transmit at the full 10 Mbps ?

5. What is the driving force for the development of MPLS traffic engineering ?

6. Specify the open flow switching process for executing a firewall activity with
relevant table entries.

7. List down the hardware and software components of a generic router.

8. Compare switch and bridge in terms of their functionality.

9. Mention the challenges in implementation of openflow.

10. List down the various RTCP packets bundles in a single UDP datagram during
an RTCP transmission.

various services based on performance issues in internet. (9)
ii) How ISA approach enhances the features of basic IP based networks ? (4)

14. a) Discuss about the various scheduling and dropping policies for Best Effort and
Guaranteed service models in detail. (13)
(OR)
b) Explain in detail about a proactive packet discard technique for TCP traffic
and list down the goals of the technique in handling various types of traffic
flows. (13)

Part – C (1×15=15 Marks)

16. a) i) Explain the procedure for designing and deploying MPLS based
VPN. How overlay networks guarantees convergence and facilitates
deterministic search ? (7)
ii) State the limitations of Best Effort service and choose an example application
of your choice and discuss in detail about making the best from the best
effort service by recovering the losses. (8)
(OR)
b) Consider a SDN environment and choose a network application of your choice
and frame the requirements of that application. Design the SDN specification
and demonstrate the flow of application data by considering appropriate
controller hierarchy communicating with the control and data plane entities. (15)
