Adult Cardiology Clinic

The Department of Cardiology is a nationally recognized and trusted center for

investigating and diagnosing cardiovascular diseases. There is a full-time working
angiography team at the clinic every episode where early interventional care can be
done in cases like emergency myocardial infarction. The hospital cardiology
department has tremendous expertise in all areas of cardiac care ranging from
standard procedures such as remote consultation, echocardiography, angiography,
electrophysiology testing, percutaneous coronary revascularization and follow-up of
patients with advanced cardiac insufficiency to heart transplantation and clinical
trials. State-of-the-art technology tests and procedures are offered to patients of all
ages to help make a definitive diagnosis in cardiac care and clinical therapies and
create a treatment plan. Cardiologists use a wide range of treatment options to
deliver the best possible care to each patient and, at the same time, coordinate with
the cardiovascular surgical team if surgery is the best treatment option. After the
patients are discussed in the council arranged together with the cardiovascular
surgery department for the decision of operation, the type and timing of the
operation is decided. In 2016, 3497 special interventional procedures were made. In
addition, 71 EVAR and 56 TEVAR were performed with success.
After many years of experience in percutaneous coronary procedures, especially in
the area of specialists in chronical total occlusion, the hospital continues to lead the
hospital nationwide on structural heart disease, especially percutaneous mitral valve
repair (mitraclip, anulus narrowing, balloon valvulaplasty), percutaneous aortic
valve closure and percutaneous paravalvular closure.

Advanced echocardiography imaging uses the latest technology devices and has
world-renowned doctors.

In the echocardiography laboratory;

 Real-time 3D transesophageal echocardiography (RT-3D TEE)

 Diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of prosthetic heart valve diseases
 Follow-up and treatment of patients with prosthetic heart valve diseases planning
pregnancy
 Guided imaging of paravalvular leakage diagnosis, treatment and interventional
therapy

Specific procedures performed in the Adult Cardiovascular Angiography

Laboratory:

• Treatment of aortic aneurysms EVAR, TEVAR

• Peripheral Vascular Interventions

• Dorsal peripheral vascular interventions

• Percutaneous mitral valvuloplasty

• Percutaneous treatment of aortic stenosis (TAVİ)

• Coronary total occlusion

• Mechanical paravalvular leakage closure

• Coronary and peripheral fistula closure

Patients requiring interventional therapy, if necessary, are evaluated by anesthesia

clinic and then catheter is placed under treatment in the angio laboratory.
In the Electrophysiology Laboratory;

With the basic electrophysiological study, the latest technology 3D mapping method
is used to diagnose rhythm disturbance. Rhythm disturbance is treated by
radiofrequency ablation or cryoablation according to the type of disease at the time
of 3D mapping.

 Radiofrequency or cryoablative treatment of supraventricular tachycardia

Advanced Stage Heart Failure and Heart Transplant Clinic

It offers a comprehensive and integrated approach to the diagnosis and treatment of

patients under 65 years of age with advanced cardiac failure due to cardiomyopathy
and ischemic coronary artery disease. In this group of patients approach,
cardiologists and cardiac surgeons are working together to determine the best
treatment strategy for each patient.

Patients receive full clinical care for cardiomyopathy, heart failure or heart
transplantation. Right ventricular catheterization applied to the heart is used to
measure the pressure performance of the heart and lungs by measuring the pressure
values of all the heart chambers. Ultimately, all patients are discussed in the co-
operative council for left ventricular assist device therapy (LVADs) or cardiac
transplant compliance. Treatment of patients with heart transplantation is arranged
and endomyocardial biopsy is performed following clinical follow-up. Today, 114
heart transplants have been successfully performed at the hospital.

Specialized clinical treatments;

 Diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of Heart Failure Patients

Pulmonary Endarterectomy

Pulmonary endarterectomy (PTE) is the removal of life-threatening blood clots

(emboli) from the pulmonary arteries (pulmonary arteries) and the supply of blood
to the lungs. Chronic pulmonary thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension is treated
by surgery; Normal pulmonary artery blood pressure is provided and right heart
failure is prevented. This special operation is planned and performed in the hospital
2 days a week since 2011. All pre-operative examinations are performed within the
hospital. Patients who have completed the preparations are taken to the open heart
surgery by using the heart lung pump and cooling. Both lung veins are opened and
the fresh or organized thrombus inside are cleaned. Concomitant surgical treatment
is also performed if concomitant heart valve and coronary pathology is present.
Hospitals with 20 or more PTEs per year are considered 'PTE center'. The number of
hospital cases and results have been recognized as one of the world's leading centers
of pulmonary endarterectomy. Pulmonary endarterectomy is performed in
approximately 20 centers worldwide, all at expert centers. The hospital is the only
center in Turkey where this operation was routinely carried out since 2011 and is
currently one of the five centers in Europe with a total of more than 450 operations.
During the last 5 years, 672 patients underwent pulmonary endarterectomy.

Department of Gastroenterology and Gastroenterological Surgery

The esophageal and metastatic disease states require advanced diagnosis,

experienced gastroenterologists and effective treatment. Clinical endoscopy
applications make accurate diagnosis and effective treatment. At the same time, it is
aimed to provide better quality care of the patients with nutritional team especially
for the patients who are in intensive care and who need special attention to diet such
as heart failure, elderly, fragility or advanced kidney failure. Nutritional plan
established by the anesthesiologist and dietician co-founded with the daily calorie
needs of the patients. Gastroenterologists work in an integrated manner with the
gastroenterologic surgical team, and many patients are diagnosed and treated jointly.
Cancer of gastroenterological origin in the hospital has a chance of successful
operation. In addition, the gastroenterologic surgery clinic offers training
