Greetings of Peace!

I am a third year student enrolled in a Doctor of Jurisprudence Program in De La Salle Lipa. As

part of our requirement in the course JD Thesis, I am conducting a study entitled

“Juris Doctor or Legum Baccalaureus: Enhancing the Philippine Legal

Education”

The main objective of this study is to clarify whether or not the law degree program affects a
student’s performance in the bar and the actual practice of law and if so, which law degree
program would better equip an aspiring lawyer not only for the bar examinations but also for the
actual practice of law. With this, the undersigned is humbly requesting for an interview with you
in order to answer the following problem statements:

1. What are the differences between the curriculums of the Juris Doctor and Legum Baccalaureus
Degrees?

Q: Is the difference merely nomenclature?

2. What are the goals and objectives of both Degrees?

Q1: Is the JD concentrated more on practice after taking the bar as opposed to LLB which
focuses on the bar?

3. What is the importance of “On the Job” Training for future lawyers?

Q1: Are OJTs important for aspiring lawyers?

Q2: Do new lawyers that took internship have an edge over other lawyers who did not?

4. Which Degree would better prepare a student for the Bar Examinations?

Q1: Is there an edge in taking JD over LLB for the bar examination? If so, in what
aspects?
5. Which Degree would better prepare lawyers for future Areas of Specialization?

Q: Does the JD, having elective subjects like Banking and Intellectual Property laws,
provide an advantage for lawyers who would want to specialize in the future?

6. Which Degree would better train students for the ASEAN integration?

Q1: Will the ASEAN integration affect the practice of law in the Philippines?

Q2: If yes, does the nomenclature affect the desirability of lawyers in foreign countries?

7. Whether or not to make the Juris Doctor Degree the uniform curriculum for all Philippine law
schools?

Q: In your opinion, will the Philippines produce better lawyers capable of practicing in
and out of the country if the JD program would be the uniform legal education?

Your kind approval of my request will be very much appreciated. This study will not be
completed without your sharing of your expertise in this field. I hope to be able to conduct the
interview with your kind self in any manner, time, and place convenient to you within the month
of February 2018.

Should you have any inquiries concerning this request, please feel free to contact me through my
