1. Purpose of course

The course looks at contemporary corporate practices expected within Morden business
organizations. Its purpose is to instil knowledge of the topical issues in business management.
The course is premised on the fact that organizations are made up of teams with varying values
and attitudes. The manager’s task is to build workable teams, develop appropriate culture
among them, and manage all aspects of groups including conflicts. At the same time the
manager should have the strategic eye to appreciate global activity for the growth and
recognition of the organization. Emphasis is given to changes in the nature of business
organizations in the context of globalization.

2. Aim

The aim of this course is to assist students to procure a body of knowledge on the pertinent
issues affecting business organizations in the 21st century as managers need to become more
and more international in mind. The course builds upon the principles of business management
learnt in BS201 to aim to reinforce the application of most of these principles in everyday
management of business entities.

3. Objectives

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

1. Know the unique international business environment and the impact of the global economic
forces on business
2. Appreciate the impact of business ethics, corporate governance and corporate social
responsibility in the success of a business entity.
3. Manage teams, solve conflicts and know the best management methods to reduce work
stress.
4. Evaluate different managerial decisions making situations in order to give correct
judgement.
5. Manage the various aspects of Human resources including having a grounded appreciation
of international labour regulations considering the international nature of human resources.
6. Appreciate the importance and contribution of management theory and practice towards
the success of organizations.

5. Teaching methods
A mixture of methods will be used in the delivery of this course. Lectures, in class studies,
class discussions, tutorials and in class group presentations will be used. Students will be
required to produce seminar papers on specific aspects of the course to demonstrate a full
appreciation of the course content and ability to apply the concept to real life managerial
challenges.

Continuous assessment (Three mandatory assignments) 30%
Final examination( 3 hr paper, closed book) 70%
