1 Overview
The LCT software consists of the NE specific LCT/NCT control software (also known as "LCT-ASW")
and NE UniGATE for LCT and NCT respectively. Additionally, the corresponding drivers must be
installed, and the system must be configured accordingly. This ReadMe File describes the installation
of the NE specific control SW. The sequence of installation of the other components should
correspond to the sequence of this document. The Ethernet adapter driver must be installed only if it
is planned to use this interface (for NE access via Ethernet or ftp).

For further information, see the manual (”TransXpress LCT/NCT Software Installation”).

– Throughout this document, keystrokes to be input by the user are printed in Italics.

2 Installation of the Ethernet Adapter Drivers

Please follow the directions of the manufacturer of your Ethernet card. It is necessary to install the
NDIS driver.

3 Installation of the Siemens NE-UniGATE SW

TransXpress SMA1K R3.3 must not operate with older versions of UniGATE!

Before installing version 5.1 of the NE-UniGATE software, ensure that no previous versions of
UniGATE are running; i.e. only one version of UniGATE can be active at the same time!

4 How to Install the NE specific control SW for the

LCT/NCT
These instructions describe how to install the NE specific control SW for LCT and NCT.

4.1 Installation Requirements

Minimum System requirements:
CPU: commonly available Pentium PC,
at least Pentium 90 MHz
RAM: 64 MB
Size of Hard Disk Drive HDD: 200 MB (for LCT) at least
500 MB (for NCT) at least
Required HDD space for inst.: 8 MB, additionally approx.
50 MB for SW Download of the NE SW
(Refers to the SW download of the NE SW,
e.g. for SW upgrade of the NE)
Operating system: Microsoft® Windows NT® 4.0 or Windows® 98

Apart from the hard disk space required by the application, the installer itself requires to have
(temporarily) additional free space on hard disk (used as "work" space) of about 8 MB.
In sum, there are at least 16 MB needed during installation.

For installation, use either the set of 3.5-inch diskettes or the CD-ROM. They are marked "LCT-ASW".

4.2 The Installation Procedure

Depending on the existence of the NE specific control software, the installation
shows different behaviors (and appearances):

 First Time Installation or Upgrade:

SMA1K R3.3 does not exist. It will be installed for the first time.
Procedure: see 4.3

 Maintenance Installation: Modify Mode

SMA1K R3.3 does already exist but the user wants to modify it (include/exclude components).
Procedure: see 4.4

 Maintenance Installation: Repair Mode

SMA1K R3.3 does already exist but the user wants to re-install it the very same way it had been
done before.
Procedure: see 4.5

 Maintenance Installation: Remove Mode

SMA1K R3.3 does already exist. The user wants setup to uninstall it completely.
Procedure: see 4.6

 Pure Remove Mode

(only if called from the "Add/Remove Software" icon from the Control Panel):
The user wants definitely uninstall an installed SMA1K R3.3.
Procedure: see 4.7

 Update/Downgrade Mode
If setup detects that the version number of the SMA1K R3.3 to be installed is higher or lower than
that of the already existing one.
Procedure: see 4.8

4.3 First Time Installation

The installation program executes the installation of the NE specific control SW program under
Windows. It copies and unpacks all necessary files into the corresponding directories and adapts the
system to the application of the LCT/NCT.

Prior to starting installation, all currently running programs and opened documents must be closed.

Installation sequence:

1. Starting the Installation

2. Select destination directory
3. Component selection
4. Summary prior to copying
4. File copy
5. Entries into Windows' registration database
6. If applicable, a restart is requested.

Hint when installing from diskettes:

Due to the order in which certain files are arranged on the installation diskettes, the setup routine may
not request the last diskette. This does not indicate an error or incomplete installation. It merely
indicates that the files on the last diskette (mostly system libraries) already exist on your computer
and are of the correct version number and date. Installing the files from the last diskette is therefore
not necessary in this case.

4.3.1 Starting

- if shipped on diskettes -
Insert Diskette #1 into the 3.5" floppy drive (usually called Drive A:). If your floppy drive is designated
differently, or if your computer has more than one floppy drives, be sure to note the name of the drive
you are using.
Hint: If there is a request to change diskettes please use just the same drive.
- if shipped on CD-ROM -
Insert the CD-ROM into the appropriate drive of the computer and note the drive name (e.g. D: ).

Click the "Start" button of the task bar (you will find it usually in the lower left corner of the screen)
and select "Run". Then, key-in:
<Drive>\Setup.exe (replace <Drive> by your drive's name)
and press the OK button.
Examples: A:\Setup.exe
D:\Setup.exe

The installation program may also be started by double clicking the file Setup.exe using the explorer.
After starting and loading the installation program, a welcome logo appears.

To successfully start the installation program, some files will be copied to your hard disk. The amount
of required space (during start-up) is about 1 Mbyte – the approximate size can be obtained from the
”setup.ini” file (look for the name ”FreeDiskSpace=”) of the first installation media. The environment
variable TMP or TEMP that may have been set in an existing autoexec.bat file determines the target
directory for these files.

If this variable is undefined, files will be copied into \TMP or \TEMP. If you have more than one hard
disk or more than one logical partition, this directory relates to the hard disk that contains the
Windows operating system.

If the needed space on the hard disk is not available the installation program will immediately abort.

You will be guided through the installation. Please follow the instructions given on screen. Dialogue
boxes containing a "Back" button allow you to return to a previous dialogue, e.g. to alter user input.

4.3.2 Select destination directory

Select the installation directory. If the NE specific control SW has previously been installed on the
computer its installation directory will be set as the default. You can specify another directory. Use the
"Browse" button to navigate easily along the file system. If you specify a non-existing directory, it will
be created automatically.

4.3.3 Component selection

Select or deselect components to install. It is advised to accept all selected

components.

4.3.4 Summary prior to copying

Please check the summarized settings carefully. If you are not satisfied
with them press the Back button and modify settings

4.3.5 File copy

The files belonging to the control SW are copied into the default directory (or into your specified
target directory).

To properly run the control SW, some system libraries (*.dll) are needed. The installation program will
copy them into the Windows' system directory (e.g. C:\WinNT\System32) if they do not already exist
or if the existing libraries are older than the newly installed ones.

Please note that setup needs its own files onto hard disk to allow later modification or uninstallation.
These files will be copied into a hidden directory under <System_Drive>:\Program Files.
Do never alter anything in this directory! Files will remain there until uninstallation.

4.3.6 Entries into the Windows' Registry Database

The installation program creates and adapts entries into the Windows' registry database to match the
needs of the installed version.
4.3.7 Reboot the computer

If the libraries mentioned in 4.3.5 have been copied, the installation program will automatically reboot
the computer after finishing the installation.

4.4 Maintenance Installation: Modify Mode

This mode allows the user to add or remove components to/from the currently installed SMA1K R3.3.
A tree view offers the user to select or deselect components. Afterwards, setup adds or removes the
components.

4.5 Maintenance Installation: Repair Mode

Repair mode repeats the installation of SMA1K R3.3 as it has happened before. It uses the same
target directory. No changes are available.

4.6 Maintenance Installation: Remove Mode

Remove mode removes all components of the installed SMA1K R3.3. The user has to prompt the
removal (or can abort it).

4.7 Pure Remove Mode

The same as 4.6. This mode will be offered only if called from "Add/Remove Software" from the
Control Panel. See 5.

4.8 Update Mode

If setup detects that the SMA1K R3.3 to be installed is an update or a downgrade to the already
installed SMA1K R3.3, it launches in Update Mode. The user is not allowed to modify the target
directory to install because setup assumes it the same as before. As a feed-back, prior to running the
update the user will be informed about the actions to be done.

5 Uninstallation
To completely uninstall the control SW go to the Start button (usually in the lower left corner of the
screen), open ”Settings” and select ”Control Panel”. Double-click the ”Add/Remove Programs” icon.
Select the entry with the name of the control SW ("TransXpress SMA1K R3.3") and click the
”Add/Remove” button. The uninstallation runs automatically, any conflicts will be reported.
