Lesson Topic: Real World Cell/Coordinate Town – Cell City

Write a brief summary of your experiences observing this lesson, addressing the
following questions:

 In your opinion, what went well? What could be tweaked/improved? (Cite specific
examples. You can note specific things such as differentiation if it occurred, use
of technology, inquiry-based, etc).
This was a culminating activity at the end of the cell unit. The students were
excited to create a real world cell model after seeing examples from past years.
The students were excited to choose an item to create that had meaning to them
and they had choices. Being able to apply the function of the cell parts helped
the students to really understand the cell and how it worked by relating to
something they understood. Next year, the teacher stated she would separate
the coordinate town project and keep them as 2 separate activities because
adding all the various components made it confusing to students.

 How well were the lesson’s student performance objectives attained?

The lesson objectives were attained because the students understood the
functions of the cell in more depth. The students also liked the review of
coordinates. Combining them together was difficult for the students. The
students were very into the real world application that they wanted to go more
in detail but were restricted to the graph paper.

 Other reflections about the lesson?

The teacher repeated multiple times that she would keep it as 2 different
projects and not combine. The teacher did an excellent job with time management by
breaking the project in smaller chunks to help guide through the creation process.
