Professional Activity Examples


 Coordinate a science field day or science night for school or community (recommended for leadership track)
 Make a presentation at GSTA– presentations generally due on October for February conference – www.georgiascienceteacher.org with
an included reflection on how the experience will impact students
 Organize a field trip in an informal science setting (Zoo, Fernbank, Aquarium, GT, local business) with an included reflection on how the
experience impacted students.
 Work with students on identified areas of misconceptions or challenge outside of regular teaching time (tutorial, after school program,
summer program).
 Plan, conduct and reflect on professional development workshop for colleagues at school with an included reflection on how the
experience will impact students; provide handouts or Power point from the presentation.
 Make a community contact in a science field to serve as a guest speaker in your classroom (Meteorologist, local industry or university,
professional science organization such as the American Chemical Society, etc.); reflect on the experience and how students were
impacted
 Describe your participation in any professional community/development activities related to science. (PSC Rule 8)
 Other experiences as approved by residency instructor.

The reflections may be assessed by the course instructor if the lessons/units were implemented during
the content course otherwise they will be assessed by the Residency Instructor. Reviewer should initial
and confirm the assignment meets criteria. The assignment should be included in the portfolio.
