1.06 QUALIFICATIONS
B. Installer: Company specializing in performing Work of this section with minimum five
years documented experience approved by manufacturer.
A. Electrical works starting from the outgoing terminals of switch fuses / sub-main
switchboards onwards, for plumbing equipment are included in this Section.
C. Symbols or schematic diagrams, used to indicate work, shall neither have any
dimensional significance nor delineate every item required for the intended installation.
E. Details that are specific regarding dimensioning and positioning of work are intended
for establishing general feasibility and not to obviate field co-ordination of the work
indicated.
C. Details of control panels, where specified, are intended for defining the requirements,
but not to limit other safety measures / components which are required by the codes
and standards.
A. The Project has an aspiration to be assessed against the requirements of LEED for
New Construction 2009 edition, and during the design phase is targeting a LEED Gold
Certification. For an explanation of the LEED certification process and description of
the LEED credits targeted refer division-01 documents-Section (01 81 13) for LEED
Requirements and Appendix-A & B. Most importantly, this project aims at LEED gold
certification and hence all Plumbing systems shall comply with LEED requirements in
addition to quality standards.
2.01 GENERAL
A. Water use reduction, including the collection and reuse of grey water and Condensate
water, is the main issue which has impacted the public health system design.
B. In order to reduce the terminal’s water consumption, the use of mains potable water for
building sewage conveyance will be reduced by grey water reuse, condensate
collection and low flow water fixtures. This will count towards the credits that are
currently targeted to attempt to achieve LEED Gold certification.
C. Low water fixtures for toilets, showers, and taps have been specified. Aerated taps and
passive infrared (PIR) activated taps and have been specified.
D. Grey water will be collected by gravity from lavatories and showers, treated and reused
for toilet flushing. Condensate drainage will be collected locally from mechanical plant
and used for irrigation and wash down. Both grey water and condensate collection
have the potential to reduce the potable water use in the terminal by 40%.
E. A solar thermal system will be installed to generate a significant proportion of the hot
water for the terminal. The system will be designed to meet the base load of the hot
water demand and be provided with electrical back up. This will reduce the building
electrical demand.
2.02 RESILIENCE
A. The public health system is designed with appropriate redundancy to ensure that the
terminal remains operating in the event of predictable plant failure.
B. Public Health Plant room locations: The main public health plant room is located at
basement level and there are a number of smaller public health plant rooms located at
both basement and apron level.
C. The Terminal is served from the plant rooms within the Terminal building only.
D. The public health plant room within the Central Plant Building serves the cooling towers
and mechanical plant rooms only. In the Central Plant Building there will be a boosted
cold water supply to serve the cooling towers and mechanical plant rooms.
E. There is RO Plant to treat and reuse associated Blow down from the cooling towers.
F. An incoming cold water supply will feed the main potable cold water storage system.
G. This will be complete with a break tank, a cold-water storage tank, and cold-water
booster Pump sets, with duty, assist and stand-by arrangements, and filters.
H. External buried diesel tanks will serve diesel day tanks located within the Central Plant
A. Incoming potable cold water supply will feed the main potable cold water storage
System. There is a 72 hour water storage requirement and therefore circulation pumps
will be provided, to circulate the water and avoid pockets of stagnant water.
B. The cold water system will serve the public toilets, kitchen, catering and retail areas.
C. The incoming cold water supply will be metered. The potable cold water supply will
also provide top-up fill facilities to the Grey Water Treatment Plant and Condensate
Storage Systems. Isolating valves will be provided at all branch connections to facilitate
the future maintenance of the system. All pipe work will be installed such that it is
readily accessible for inspection and maintenance.
A. The hot water supply for the public toilets, kitchen, catering and retail areas will be
supplied by a hot water calorifier system. The base load of the hot water system will be
generated by a solar thermal hot water system, with the peak loads electrically
generated. Solar panels will generate hot water which will be stored in buffer vessels
and will in turn heat calorifiers via a series of plate heat exchangers.
B. Since the condensate is seasonal the system will also have a top-up fill from the
potable cold water system, for top up during shortfall periods.
C. The roof drainage will be designed for a rainfall intensity of 100mm/hr. Rainwater
drainage will be discharged to an external surface water drainage system.
A. The black water drainage from water closets will be collected separately and
discharged to an external foul drainage system, with a final connection to the Ministry
of Public Works sewer main network. Treated sewage effluent also from MEW will be
utilised for external irrigation purposes.
