Desert Reflections

I hope you are enjoying this beautiful weather we are having! Are you
ready for the heat? I'm not yet and it's only the beginning of the season.

Hoping you all had a Blessed Easter Celebration in your parishes and that
as we look forward to Pentecost in a few weeks, let us continue to praise
the Lord for all the things He has given us. Also to remember those who
have lost members in the courts and in their families, my prayers and
thought are with you and your families. As were anticipate the Holy Spirit
coming to us, in the form of a Dove with outstretched wings to bring us the
gifts of Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentle-
ness and Self Control, we need to show this in our courts and families.
Prayer that the Holy Spirit comes upon these new officers and your mem-
bers to continue the wonderful works in His Name.

As we are completing the election of the officers who will lead your courts
for the next two years,, remember to thanks those that have led your AZ CDA
courts for 2 or more years for their service and sisterhood to all members.,
in UNITY AND CHARITY. Some will be having installation of the new/ Arizona State Board
continuing officer and other courts will wait till the fall. Your new/continuing
Chaplain
officers take their positions in 30 days after elections even if the have not Fr. Ariel Lustan

There will be a gathering of those attending the National Convention to be
prepared for what is coming in July. Date and time to be announced State Secretary
soon. Please make sure that I have a copy of your registration form and Lynn Wilson
meal plans (Fun Night and Banquet reservations). As soon as I have the
paperwork I will send a separate notice to all attendees, if you spouse is State Treasurer
attending bring him along, we need their input too. A state dinner is being Marilyn Witte
planned at a local restaurant and all are invited to attend and have a great
Arizona evening.

 Marion Shrine Contest at Most Holy Trinity.
This was the 30th anniversary of the
Marion Shrine contest. Court Our
Lady of Guadalupe wrapped prizes
and gifts after their meeting on April
7th.
The finals for the contest were held
on April 18th at Most Holy Trini-
ty. Monica Blasko, who has had
charge of the event for several years
did her usual
great job. She organized the contest
for all the grades at the school and
for the RE children from the three
ongoing classes.
Some of the court members helped
with set-up, refreshments, judging
and the presentation of the prizes for
the shrines.
There were more participants and
families attending than in recent
years.
The children were very creative in
their interpretations of shrines to the
Holy Mother. The proud parents
beamed with pride at the imaginative
and
and reverence the children displayed
in their entries. There were smiling
faces and expressions for pride from
all.
We were proud to have helped spon-
sor and participate in this most wor-
thy endeavor. We look forward to
next year's opportunity to be involved
again.

Note From our State Secretary
As I close in on my first year in this office, I
have to say it has been a great joy and blessing. I have
begun to meet some Catholic Daughter from around
the state. You are all so very talented and dedicated
ladies. We are so lucky to have you as members of
Catholic Daughters.
I hope that you will continue to invite new members to your courts,
so we can continue to grow and serve the Lord with Joy. God sent the work-
ers to the vineyard, we each arrive at different times but, the work never
ends. So we must continue to extend a warm welcome to everyone. Some
court are struggling to keep their number up so even if someone you know
would not be a member in your court invite them to join a court nearby or
direct them to the state board so we may help them start a court in their own
parish.
As we continue through the Easter season with a renewed relation-
ship with our Lord, renew your commitment to Catholic Daughters, give just a
little more time of yourself this year. We’re all able to serve the Lord in some
way with our many talents and gift, so lets put them to good use and enter
the vineyard of the Lord.

The hugely popular Netflix
series, 13 Reasons Why, has become
a lightning rod for critics who say it
glorifies suicide and might even
make it an attractive option for teen-
agers who are enduring difficult
times in their lives. Anna Bright, a 14
year old committed suicide after
binge watching 13 Reasons Why.
Anna’s parents contacted the Ameri-
can Family Association, asking them
to help get the word out about the
dangers of 13 Reasons Why. On
March 25, Tim Wildman, President
of the American Family Association
sent a letter to Reed Hastings, CEO
of Netflix asking for a short meeting
to discuss his concerns. His letter
was ignored. Teen Vogue said the
show is the most popular show on
social media. Netflix plans to release
a second season soon. Even the
mainstream media has publicized
the potential dangers of this show,
and some schools here in America
and abroad have sent home letters
to warn parents
about the series.
The American
Academy of
Pediatrics say that suicide has risen
to become the second leading cause
of death among teenagers. Asking
Netflix to drop this dangerous series
is the right thing to do. You can sign
a petition demanding Netflix pull
Season 1 of the series and cancel
plans to air Season 2. Just as
Important, tell everyone you know
who has teenagers to monitor their
children’s television viewing and
make sure they protect them by not
allowing them to watch this dreadful

Court 2278 Our Lady of Lordes

Sun City West holds an annual rummage sale, always the last
weekend in February. This year we profited$38,000 from our
sale. We give our Treasurer writers cramp as she writes the
checks to the 29 different charities that we have voted to sup-
port. Of course, we support various groups in the Sun City West
area, but we have a few favorites outside of our area. A New
Leaf, a domestic violence shelter in Mesa and the New Life Center
also a domestic violence shelter in Goodyear both receive funds
from us. We support the St. Joseph Yarnell Shrine. They have reported that
all the buildings that were burned in their fire have been replaced. We al-
ways support KNOM Radio Mission. That is a non-commercial Catholic radio
station in Nome, Alaska. The new recipient of our donation this year is the
new St. John Paul II High School that is currently being built. Sister Mary Jor-
dan Hoover OP, Principal, requested funds to help furnish the school which
will open in the fall. There are so many good charities that it is difficult to
4 decide who to help, but we hope that we have made the lives of a few indi-
viduals a little better.
Court Padro Kino 1932
Court Padre Kino 1932 had its third annual womens day
of reflection on Saturday March 10. It was well attended
and our speakers did a fantastic presentation. We had
Father Romeo Dionisio lead off on the Gift of Life and
then welcomed Father Wilfred Yinah as our main speak-
er. Father Wilfred gave us a lot to think about and made
his presentation available to whoever wanted a
copy. We attended mass at 11 am and then had lunch
and welcomed our own Deacon Sione Hola for a presen-
tation on his homeland of Tonga. It was a full day and
every one enjoyed the give aways we had during
lunch. Some of the ladies who attended stated they are
looking forward to next year.
National Director
Happy Spring to all of you! Some parts of our coun-
try haven’t received that memo yet. But
we here in Arizona certainly have as we enjoy the
beauty of the yellow palo verde trees every where we
look. And a drive in the desert shows the beauty of
our beautiful cactus.
Its a busy time of the year as we just celebrated
the Joyous Easter season and Our Risen Lord and
soon we celebrate the feast of Pentecost when Our
Lord sent the Holy Spirit upon His apostles and their
followers. More then 2000 years later we are blessed
to be among those followers. We continue the evan-
gelization by our spiritually and service as Catholic
Daughters.
The Holy Spirit gave us gifts to guide us in our
work. In our service we use those gifts of Wisdom,
Council, Understanding, Knowledge, Fortitude, Piety
and Fear of the Lord. And from these gifts we gain
the attributes of the fruits of the Holy Spirit and hope-
fully share those fruits with all we encounter. We
need to practice and show to others the fruits of the
Holy Spirit of Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Good-
ness, Faithfulness, Gentleness and Self Control.
In our courts, we have just had elections of the new
officers that will serve our court for the next 2 years.
First I want to say a special Thank you to the officers
who have served the past 2 years. Your work for
Catholic Daughters and your court is very much ap-
preciated. To those who have been elected, I say a
big Thank you for setting up and saying yes Lord. I
pray the Holy Spirit will be your guide. Please know
that your State Officers and
I will be available to help
you whenever you need.
The State Regent is plan-
ning training sessions and I
greatly encourage you as an officer for your court to
attend and learn all you can about your responsibili-
ties. I ask all members to be supportive of your new
officers. Be there to help them whenever and where
ever you can. Pray daily for the Holy Spirit to guide
them and Our Blessed Mother to fold them in Her
mantle of love.
It is also that time of the year when many of you
leave soon (or have already left) for the summer. I
pray that you have a safe and enjoyable summer.
And for those of us that stay in AZ to enjoy our sun
shine stay cool, don’t forget the sunscreen and drink-
ing lots of water.
For those that will be attending the National Con-
vention in Sioux Falls, SD, I look forward to seeing
you there and sharing a wonderful experience togeth-
er. I encourage all of you to review the proposed by-
law changes so you are acknowledgeable when
these items come up for a vote. Discuss your
thoughts on them to our AZ delegates who will be
voting on them.
