THE CONVERGENCE OF
TRADITIONAL CHINESE MEDICINE
HOMEOPATHY AND
BIOMEDICINE
JERRY M . KANTOR
LIC AC, CCH. MMHS
"Jerry Kantor has successfully integrated
the disciplines of homeopathy, acupuncture,
and biomedicine into pragmatic healing ap-
proaches that busy practitioners can readily
and easily apply to common clinical presen-
tations. Multimodal management and inte-
grative medicine techniques, while certainly
the best approach to medical conditions, can
be deceptively complex. Jerry's explanations
and guidelines are the perfect balance of
background information and recommenda-
tions, allowing the clinician to effectively
supplement their treatment armamentar-
ium."

A S EA CHANGE
Our Great Ship-our human form-is built
of dreams, physical and emotional needs, and
unique capabilities, fashioned to withstand life's
squalls, gales, and treacherous currents. The Sea
of Life on which our Great Ship sails has also been
given to us as a source of primal life energy.
A ship at sea and the wide sea maintain a
tenuous relationship. A ship is buoyed, and the
sea yields up its bountiful life for the sailors; yet
often trade winds and perfect storms buffet the
ship and destroy it. Like a ship at sea, our Great
Ship endures life's volatility and discovers that
the Sea of Life is neither unlimited nor uncondi-
tionally ours.
In this book I offer a new model to redirect
our Great Ship, measure for measure, toward the
health-giving, primal energy of the Sea of Life.

Arsenicum album
Not surprisingly, Arsenicum album is effica-
cious in a variety of digestive complaints. It
is almost a specific remedy for high-achiev-
ing, perfectionist school girls suffering from
anorexia nervosa. The fathers of such girls are
often demanding, exacting high standards of
excellence, a circumstance that illuminates the
nature of challenge within the remedy and its
radical disjunct: "I crave a state of perfection so
as to stave off death; but when I achieve this
state, I perceive the stagnated nature of the per-
fected state, and this creates further terror of
death."
Dulcamara (Cold/Damp)
Individuals in need of Dulcamara are prone to
ailments from cold and wet weather or are sub-
ject to sudden climatic change. Their rheumatic
pains involve coldness, and can be paralytic.
The pains improve with physical movement,
warmth, or the free flow of fluid secretions; that
is, from a nasal discharge or episodic diarrhea
which can ameliorate pain in this remedy state.
The anxiety of Dulcamara individuals relates
to other persons such as friends, but mainly to
family members. A patient's subconscious chal-
lenge- to seize control of the problems of those
in her group with whom she overidentifies-
is expressed in domineering behavior. Although
her bossiness conveys an impression of anger,
she would deny that this is the case. Her cer-
titude of being correct is expressed as a fixed
perspective that parallels the fixity of Damp Ob-
struction. A prescription of Dulcamara can mel-
low such individuals, while it greatly reduces
their rheumatic pain.

Cuprum metallicum
Unable to allow a free flow of emotion because
they find it disturbing, persons in need of
Cuprum metallicum, made from copper, sup-
press and transmute their feelings. Their need
for inner control generates a powerful work
ethic, a venting of emotions through irascibil-
ity, and a tendency to mimic others or per-
form antics. Emotionally cramped, they are also
subject to external, muscular cramping. The
Cuprum metallicum person is driven by an atti-
tude toward authority that betrays the remedy's
radical disjunct: excessive respect for authority
invites an ambitious need to overcome and tran-
scend authority. Because muscular cramps and
spasms lie on a continuum with convulsive ac-
tivity, Cuprum metallicum may be an effective
treatment for some types of seizures.

THECULTUREOFCANCER
Commentary
A normal cell must convert to a can-
cerous state by undergoing something
akin to a seduction. Like a Faustian
bargain, in exchange for being granted
immortality- the ability to reproduce
without limitations- the cell pledges
itself to a tumor colony, each cell of
which is possessed of a similar delu-
sion: a belief that the tumor's ex-
istence is separate and independent
from the existence of its host.
Commentary
Cancer cells are single-minded zealots,
martyrs willing to sacrifice themselves
on behalf of the tumor colony's vora-
cious demands.
Commentary
Cancer cells are inspired to metasta-
size. Far-flung missions are embarked
on whose goal is to colonize tissue en-
tirely foreign to that of the cancer cell's
original composition.
