COURSE REQUIREMENTS

To pass the course, you must

1. submit all assignments (20% of your final grade)
2. take and pass all the computer-marked quizzes (20%of your final grade)
3. take and pass the mid-term examination (Modules 1- 5) (30% of your final grade)
4. take and pass the final examination (Modules 6 - 9) (30% of your final grade)
Assignments

There will be a total of 2 assignments which you will submit on the course site. The coverage of
each assignment together with the deadline are indicated in the table below:

Assignment Module Deadline

Module 1. Mathematical Systems I:
Numbers and Sets

Module 2. Mathematical Systems II

1 June 9, 2018 8:00 P.M.
Module 3. Real Numbers

Module 4. Number Systems

Module 5. Algebraic Structures

Module 6. Euclidean Geometry

Module 7. Projective Geometry

2 July 14, 2018 8:00 P.M.
Module 8. Calculus

Module 9. Statistics

 It is preferred that you submit your assignment in or pdf format.

 You may upload your assignment on the designated assignment bin on our virtual
classroom (MyPortal). If you are near your Learning Center, you can also submit
a hardcopy. Just give me a shout out if you submitted your Assignment through
your LC. Do not submit your Assignment through my e-mail.
 When you submit your assignment, please use the following format for the
filename: Surname_AssignmentNumber.
 Upload your assignment only when it is already final.
 Late submission of assignment will be subjected to a 5% deduction for each day
or fraction thereof of delay. For example, if you’re grade in assignment 1 is 86
points but you submitted it 4 days and 3 hours after the deadline, then you will
incur a 25-point deduction (5 pts x 5). Hence, your score in Assignment 1 will be
only 61 points.

Quizzes
There will be 4 quizzes scheduled throughout the trimester. The coverage and schedule
are shown below:
 Quiz 1 – Modules 1 & 2 (8:00 PM of 25 May to 8:00 PM of 26 May)
 Quiz 2 – Modules 3 -5 (8:00 PM of 8 June to 8:00 PM of 9 June)
 Quiz 3 – Modules 6 & 7 (8:00 PM of 30 June to 8:00 PM of 1 July)
 Quiz 4 – Modules 8 & 9 (8:00 PM of 13 July to 8:00 PM of 14 July)
Examinations

There will be two major examinations: Midterm Examination and Final Examination.
The coverage of the examinations are as follows:
 Midterm Examination - (Modules 1 – 5)
 Final Examination - (Modules 6 – 9)

The major examinations will be conducted at your respective Learning Centers/Testing Centers.
The examination will be administered by your Learning Center/Testing Center coordinators/staff.
You have to coordinate with them regarding the time and venue of the examination. Usually, the
coordinator/staff posts information about the major examinations on MyPortal.

The dates of the examinations are fixed. This is the reason why the schedule has been given to
you way ahead of time. Keep 16 June 2018 and 21 July 2018 open.

Students who will not be able to take the midterm examination due to a valid reason may take the
make-up examination on 14 July 2018. The coverage of the make-up examination, however,
will be all modules.

Students who will not be able to take the final examination will get an “EXT” if there class
standing prior to the finals is passing. However, those students who will not be able to take the
final examination and with a failing standing prior to the final exam will get a grade of 5.0.

Grading System

Your final grade will be computed as follows:

Requirement Weight
Assignments 20%
Quizzes 20%
Mid-term Examination (Modules 1-5) 30%
Final Examination (Modules 6-9) 30%
--------------
TOTAL 100%

The equivalent grades will be based on the following transmutation table:

PERCENTAGE GRADE
93 – 100 1.00
90 – 92 1.25
87 – 89 1.50
84 – 86 1.75
80 – 83 2.00
75 – 79 2.25
70 – 74 2.5
60 – 69 2.75
50 – 59 3.0
40 – 49 4.0 (Conditional)
Below 40 5.0 (Failure)
NOTE: THE MINIMUM PASSING GRADE IS 50%.

A grade of EXT (Extended) will be given to students whose class standing is passing
(compliance of at least half of the course requirements) but failed to take one of the final
examination. Such grade will be removed only upon taking the completion examination within
one year after incurring such a grade.

Students who will get a grade of 4.0 may take a removal examination. Upon passing the removal
examination, the 4.0 becomes a 3.0.

GENERAL GUIDELINES/HOUSE RULES

As a general rule, you are all expected to practice intellectual honesty when you do your
assignments and when you take the examinations. Cheating, plagiarism, and similar intellectual
dishonesty shall be punished accordingly based on the University rules. Always show complete
solution when answering the assignments and examinations. No credit will be given to
answers without the accompanying solution.
