NURSE-PATIENT CONVERSATION

PATIENT: Good morning! Is here anybody able to speak English?

NURSE: You are lucky! I do! Good morning, Miss! What brings you here today?

PATIENT: Well, I came here, in the Northern of Bukovina, three days ago, with a couple of
friends, to visit the monasteries and to enjoy the landscapes. Everything seemed
to be perfect until yesterday. It started to rain heavely. It was a real storm!We
couldn’t find a shelter anywhere and today- here I am! I can barely stand on my
feet!

NURSE: OK, Miss. It’s going to be fine. But, first of all, I need to collect your personal data.
I have a few questions for you.

PATIENT: Of course.

NURSE: What is your name?

PATIENT: My name is Elisabeth Smith.

NURSE: How old are you?

PATIENT: I’m 20 years old.

NURSE: What brings you here today?

PATIENT: I have a sore throat. And I feel dizzy, too.

NURSE: When did you first notice your pain?

PATIENT: This morning, nurse. I woke up with it. It’s terrible! My condition is getting
worse!

NURSE: Don’t be afraid. You’ll be OK. What is your pain like? Sharp, dull, stabbing?

PATIENT: It’s a dull pain, nurse.

NURSE: On a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 the worst, how would you rate you feel right now?

PATIENT: I think it’s about 6.

NURSE: I have to check your vital signs.

PATIENT: All right.

NURSE: Your blood pressure is 110/60. (110 over 60). Your temperature is 38 C and your
heart rate is 86 beats per minute.
Have you ever had a severe disease or a surgery?
PATIENT: Nothing serious, nurse. And I didn’t have any surgery.

NURSE: Are you allergic to any medication?

PATIENT: No.

NURSE: Do you smoke?

PATIENT: No, I don’t.

NURSE: Your fever is a little high, but don’t worry. The doctor is going to see you
immediately. He will prescribe you the necessary medication to get well soon.

PATIENT: Thank you, nurse.

 PHARMACIST- PATIENT CONVERSATION

PHARMACIST: Hello! How can I help you?

PATIENT: Hi! I need to get this prescription filled. I have a serious cold. You know, I’m a
foreigner here. I come from UK.

PHARMACIST: Give me the prescription, please. The doctor has ordered you Tylenol- 5
mll at 12 hours and Green Tantum Spray- a puff 3 times a day. Unfortunatelly, we don’t have
Tantum spray on stock for the moment, but I can offer you Tantum pills, in the same
concentration.

PATIENT: OK, you know better! I just want to get rid of this terrible cold.

PHARMACIST: Here are your medicines. Be careful. Don’t forget to take Tylenol- 5 mll
twice a day, at 12 hours and a Tantum pill thrice a day. You have to follow this prescription
for 5 days.
