CoalLog formats in GEOVIA Minex 6.5

Geologists in Australia can now import all 213 “CoalLog – the Australian Logging Standard” lithology
symbols in .dxf format for both faster reporting and compliance with government regulations. This
means that GEOVIA Minex (http://www.geovia.com/products/minex/) meets the Australian Coal
Logging legal reporting standard (CoalLog v2.0), which captures, shares and reports coal exploration
data in a consistent format.

The CoalLog (https://www.ausimm.com.au/content/default.aspx?ID=451)standard establishes a

consistent format for coal data, data code translation tables and other transferral conventions. It was
developed by representatives from major Australian coal mining companies, consultants and software
companies, and regularly reviewed by companies, such as Dassault Systèmes to ensure it remains up to
date.

The new lithology symbols in Minex contain ROCKTYPE symbols that are used to fill borehole plot
traces such as profile plots and cross sections. Hatch patterns can also be imported to Minex symbol
files, and users can now import coal log graphic patterns in .dwg or .dxf format into Minex, as per the
below image.

Multiple symbols can be selected and imported one at a time, alternatively new symbol files can also be
created, as per the below image.

Other new features in Minex related to CoalLog include:

Automatic population of coal log codes through CoalLog Lithology Graphic pattern files.
Customization of coal log pattern and/or customized symbols for import in any CAD software
Assignation of user-defined codes to symbols
Creation of profile plots or graphic logs from imported patterns by opening the symbol files (in
Minex it is located under Tools > Options)
