Introduction
Although there is a law to stop discrimination ( Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (Title
VII), which prohibits employment discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin) ,
discrimination toward the African Americans still is a serious problem. Because of the history of
slavery, discrimination still exist against them. It affects them in the workplace. Most of the African
Americans (88%) think it needs to be improved to achieve racial equality (Dimock 4). There are
six-in-ten Americans say needed more changes to achieve racial equality (Dimock 4). There are 64%
of blacks think they are treated less fairly in the workplace. (Dimock 4). The two main discriminating
effects are they get fewer job opportunities and less salary than the same white candidates. African
Americans are the victim of joblessness. Research shows that unemployment rate is 16.7%, is more
than twice of white and 2010 Census shows that African American only earned 58.7% of the white
salary. (Schwartz 3) In the same qualified candidates , the African Americans earn less and receive
fewer opportunities, that shows unfair treatment against them ( Schwart 1). In addition , Employer hire
whites candidates from less reputation university more than Black candidates from well-known school.
That shows the discrimination against the African Americans. The problem they face in the workplace
is they have less network in the workplace and they don’t have a good credit history. There are many
company check the credit history that is harm to the African Americans. Joblessness tend not to have
well credit rating because unemployed is difficult to pay bill such as rent and cost of living. As a result,
the African Americans take disadvantage in credit check. (Nittle) Credit history prevent them to get a
good job because they are difficult to get a good job to maintain good credit.

Negative effect which is joblessness against African Americans (Dimock 4). A research that was
done by Michael Dimock from the University of California-San Diego has shown that discrimination
against African Americans cause lack of job, as shown in the graph in Fig. 1. About 64% of the Blacks
