The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) was formed in 1918 as the American Engineering Standards Committee to establish standards for various engineering societies and the U.S. Departments of War and Navy. In 1916, American society of civil engineers, American society of mechanical engineers, American society of electrical engineers, American society of metallurgical and mining engineers, and American society for testing materials engineers joins to form a department that can be used to maintain the standards for the products. This department approaches the US department of war and navy to join them. In 1918, American engineering standard committee was formed which today known as ANSI, and its first secretary was Paul G.Agnew and its first budget was 7,500 US dollars.
