Organisation Overview
Tasmanian Networks Pty Ltd (TasNetworks) is Tasmania’s electricity transmission, distribution and
telecommunication business. It is a State-owned Company formed by the merger of the distribution
business of Aurora Energy Pty Ltd and Transend Networks Pty Ltd. TasNetworks formally commences
operations on 1 July 2014 to support the following outcomes for Tasmanian customers:
 lowest sustainable electricity bills;
 long-term safe, secure and reliable supplies of electricity; and
 a financially viable business that runs efficiently and effectively and maximises the overall economic
benefit to Tasmania

Organisation Requirements

POSITION PURPOSE

To manage the operational and tactical aspects of overhead transmission and distribution network
assets by contributing to and implementing the asset management strategies and programs of work.

To provide expert engineering advice and guidance to TasNetworks, its customers and stakeholders
based with a detailed understanding of the needs of the asset class as part of a team which delivers
effective asset management practices and utilises innovative asset management techniques.

KEY CHALLENGES
 Being a key participant in the advancement of robust processes to optimise the flow of information
from the Asset Strategy group including provision of timely feedback of any asset-related issues.
 Supporting and implementing work flow, processes and capabilities within the team to ensure the
required asset management and engineering standards are adhered to.
 Transforming overhead line asset management plans into programs of work and routine
maintenance activities.
 Delivering an ongoing customer focus with design and engineering outcomes that priorities work
while balancing risk, reliability, industry best practice and cost efficiency in an environment of
limited budget and significant regulatory requirements.
 Providing professional and specialist engineering advice and support to the team, other groups
within TasNetworks and its stakeholders to promote the effective management of transmission and

distribution network assets.
 Provide expert technical advice and keep abreast with the latest trends in the Industry.
 To develop and apply new systems, policies and procedures to meet asset engineering
requirements.
 To provide an engineering mentoring role to other staff within TasNetworks.
 To ensure that the network is constructed and maintained in accordance with legislative, internal
and other appropriate standards and requirements.
 Build good relationship with service providers to encourage positive and sustainable performance
and commercial outcomes.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
 Establishing asset management strategies in accordance with best practice for overhead line
assets.
 Coordinating overhead line asset refurbishment, replacement and maintenance programs/projects
providing input into business cases and scope/option development to support the works program in
alignment with approved strategies and pricing determination.
 Developing and implementing and condition monitoring and asset maintenance strategies and
practice, and prepare condition assessment reports.
 As a subject matter expert, ensuring the team delivers effective specialist engineering advice for
overhead line assets to Area Asset Managers, field teams, system planners and Strategy
Engineers.
 Working collaboratively to support TasNetworks purpose and culture
 Contributing to and supporting TasNetworks’ Safety/other programs and strategies
 Supporting the established risk management and fault response strategies in place to manage
contingent events
 Co-ordinating, in liaison with system controllers and operational staff, the restoration of electrical
supply in the event of a fault and / or emergency, and participate, on a chance availability basis, in
24/7 on-call procedures for overhead line assets from a state-wide perspective.
 Providing technical briefs to both internal and external designers and ensuring designs that are fit
for construction and ongoing maintenance.
 Implement the annual and 10 year rolling plans covering the inspection/testing, maintenance,
renewal and upgrade requirements for overhead line assets based on the approved Asset
Management Plans.
 Identify emerging asset issues likely to prevent the delivery of an acceptable level of reliability,
cost, risk and customer service
 Ability to interpret, analyse and comprehend complex data sets; undertake complex investigations
of asset failures and present results in a manner that is appropriate to the stakeholder audience
 Develop effective relationships with stakeholders and customers; represent TasNetworks at
external and Asset Engineering at internal forums
 Maintain a high level of professional ethics and being trusted with critical issues
 Demonstrated capacity to influence and manage key stakeholders expectations; an ability to
deliver in accordance with customer expectations and to communicate with a variety of
stakeholders.

SELECTION PROFILE
