Child/Tama: Karam. Teacher/ Kaiako: Naema.

Date: 17th
April/Paenga-whaawhaa 2018. An-Nur Childcare.

Asalamo Alaikum, Karam your last story was about how you
have been welcomed into the preschool and developing a sense of belonging and
trusting your teachers to meet your needs.
In the last few weeks I have noticed that you have gained so much confidence
while exploring the preschool environment both inside and outside. Your sense
of Mana has been developing and you have engaged yourself in playing alongside
other children.
During last few weeks we have been supporting you to learn An-Nur preschool
routines and encouraging you to put your lunch box and drink bottle on the
kitchen shelf, washing hands and reading Dua before kai (food) and sitting at the
at the table while we eat. You also have been encouraging you to tidy-up at the
times when needed.
Today when we asked the children to tidy-up you put all the ‘teddy bears’ and
‘connecting counters’ in the jar and closed the lid and put the jar in the container.
I noticed you turned back when you realized that the jar does not belong there.
You took the jar out and made sure container was properly closed. You examined
the container carefully and then gave it to me to put it away. Observation shows
you are a keen learner and are able to use gesture and movement to express and
communicate to understand the world around you.

Karam when you see Talia coming from Nursery you always go to welcome her
and enjoy her company. (Your cousin in transition to preschool)
I noticed you have been offering her toys and push the car to give her a ride; this
shows your caring nature and developing empathy that is a vital component of
social skills.
Staff will keep active responsive and reciprocal relationship with you to support
your confidence learning preschool routines and build friendship with Talia and
other children. This will foster your creativity, communication verbal and non-
verbal skills and obviously you will have so much fun! As Mana reo will enable
you to understand the oral language and using it
for the range of purposes / he korero aa-waha.

Teacher Catherine’s Voice: Kareem is learning the preschool routines
