DESCRIPTION

Wear resistance:
The CREUSABRO concept - excellent ability to work harden and the supplementary
contribution of microcarbides. The steel workhardens by the TRIP effect (Transformation
Induced by Plasticity). The combination of these properties give the CREUSABRO 8000
exceptional wear resistance (the highest wear resistance in heavy plates with uniform
properties throughout the thickness) around 8 times that of the standard mild steel (A572 G65
grade). The properties in extreme conditions are 50% superior to standard water quenched
steel (hardness 500HB).

Controlled as delivered hardness range:

Minimum 430HB, Typical 470HB.

High toughness and impact resistance:

CHARPY V long at -20oC > 40 J/cm 2 (23.6 ft-Lbs)
Typical value at -20oC : 55 J/cm2 (32 ft-Lbs)

Tensile strength - typical values at 20oC-:

Ultimate tensile = 1 630 MPa (235KSI)
Yield strength = 1 250 MPa (180KSI)
Elongation (5d) = 12%
APPLICATIONS

CREUSABRO 8000 is intended for applications requiring extreme wear and impact
resistance.
- Quarries, Construction & Earth Moving:
Blades, outside stiffeners, underteeth pads of loaders and shovels, crushers and mill liner
etc.
- Mines, Coal mines:
Extracting and loading equipment, hopper liners. Helical gravity conveyors. Parts of
chain-conveyors etc.
- Cements Plants: armouring of drier-tubes, buckets, hoppers, clinker cooler outlet shields
etc.
- Iron and steel industry, scrap, recovery, brickworks, agricultural equipment

PROCESSING
In spite of its high mechanical properties, CREUSABRO 8000 remains easy to fabricate with
standard procedures and equipment.

Cutting
Standard thermal cutting techniques -flame, plasma, laser cutting - can be used without
special preheating for thickness up to 40 mm (plate temperature > 10oC). Plates over 40
mm in thick should be preheated to 150oC to avoid edge cracking.
The newer techniques - plasma and laser - offer important advantages concerning cutting
speed, precision, cleanliness, and vastly reduced heat affected zone, as well as reduction in
cut width enabling the possibility of direct welding on the cut edges. All these processes are
appropriate for CREUSABRO 8000.

Mechanical shearing and punching are not recommended even for the thinner plates.

Machining
In accordance with standard procedures, with well maintained equipment with sufficient
power.

Drilling with overcarburized cobalt alloyed high speed tools of HSSCO type (examples :
type AISI M42) with taper shank, long helical and as short as possible bits.
Lubrication by soluble oils diluted to 20%.
In case of deep or numerous drilling, we recommend the use of drills with tip in tungsten
carbide or solid carbide bits (example : type ISO carbide quality K10 or K20), carbide tipped
drills with TiN layer is especially suitable.

Milling with carburized, cobalt alloyed high speed tools of HSSCO type (examples AISI type
M35). In order to improve the efficiency and the finishing operations, the choice of tools
with carbide tip (example : ISO type P25 for grooving or K10 or K20 for facing) is
recommended.
Forming
CREUSABRO 8000 ,despite its high mechanical properties, is reasonably formable. The steel
can be hot formed up to 15 mm thick.

Cold forming:
- Bending : bending radius Ri > 6T (T : plate thickness)
width of the V-bock > 16T
- Rolling: inside diameter Di > 40T

General recommendations for cold forming:

Use press or rolls with sufficient power.
Warming of cold plates - less than + 10oC - to workshop temperature, removal of stress
raisers on the surfaces to be formed, grinding and deburring of edges, forming in several
steps with a stop between each operation to facilitate the flow in the metal are
recommended.

Hot forming for thickness < 15 mm

in the range of 450/500oC or better 880/950oC, without affecting abrasion resistant properties.

WELDING
CREUSABRO 8000 is weldable by any standard processes. For connecting joints weld metal
is similar to those used for standard abrasion resistant grades.
