About
This is named Cipher Principle 3.0 as it is the third
version. It is also a fun play on the name C-3PO.
Although named after Cipher I have been using this idea

since my Superhuman stage show in 2013.
The Effect
Famous Mentalist: Please join me onstage.
Hello and welcome!
Famous Mentalist: Please tell everyone your name.

Segen.
Mentalist: Hi Segen, I am Warren Thackeray, pleased to

meet you.
We did speak earlier to try and calibrate to see if I could

read your mind and some of it worked and some of it
never, right?
Segen: you were 50/50. Lol
Mentalist: Let’s try for something a little simpler and
then work our way up.
Are you more social or introverted?
Segen: Social
Mentalist: Let me see the palm of your hand.

Ah, I would say that you were born in the warmer part
of the year. Just yes or no, don’t give anything away.
Segen: Yes.
Mentalist: So, social you say. I’m leaning toward

Summer. Just think of you star sign. Say it over and over
in your mind only. Segen, please close your eyes.
Mentalist writes: Virgo and shows the audience.
Mentalist: In a nice loud clear voice please tell everyone

your star sign.
Segen: Virgo.
Mentalist: Excellent, now, you can only have been born

in one of two months August or September.
Just think your answer and keep your eyes closed.
Mentalist writes: August and shows the audience.
Mentalist: In a nice loud clear voice please tell everyone
what month you were born in.
Segen: August.
And so you will go on with the day of the month too.
Mentalist: Let’s switch gears.

Could we go for something more risky? Like a pin code,
but not your actual one, just a four digit number?
Segen: Yes.
Mentalist: Take this notepad and pen and lets stand

back to back.
At every number we will calibrate. I will always write

first and then you can write yours after, then we will
both show the audience.
Mentalist: Think of your favorite color.

You write - blue
Mentalist: Think of your first number.
You write the first digit.
Both reveal at the same time. Audience will go wild.
Mentalist: Are you a cat or dog person? Just think your

answer.
You write cat.
Mentalist: Think of your second number.
You write the second digit.
Mentalist: Now think of this pets name from when you

were younger.
You write - Garfield.
Mentalist: Third number.
You write the third digit.
And so on for the fourth digit too.
Audience goes nuts.


CP30
There are many ways to use this besides Cipher. The
Script must be tight and yes there is preshow but not in
the usual way. You can make this shorter or the length
of the example.
Mentalist: Hi, my name is Warren Thackeray and I’m

performing here tonight. I am going to be reading minds
later and this is one of the most difficult things that I do.
Before I get someone onstage I just want to make sure
this works!
Can we see if this will work with you?
Go through the Cipher setup. I personally do not do the

force. I just try and guess a single digit they are thinking
of from the final = button they push. Yeah, you read
write, just guess. But also you never read that right.
Mentalist: If I get stuck later and I need to calibrate I
would like us to be thinking the same thing at the same
time. If you think of your favorite color and I am
thinking of it, then it will be easier for me to jump to the
information I am stuck on.
Mentalist: What is your favorite color?

Segen: Blue.
Mentalist: Are you a cat or dog person?
Segen: Cat
Mentalist: Did you have a cat growing up and what was
its name?
Segen: Garfield.
Mentalist: Excellent, now I know you know that I know
this info because you have just told me. But I will only
use it if I get stuck. So I will write it at some point or ask
you to think of it so that we can be on the same page.
This will help me guess other information.
Mentalist: It is important to know that I am not making

you say anything and that your pin code is known only
to you.
You will need your best pre show words here, because I
am not giving you mine :)
Essentially you will now be revealing all this other
information about someone by linking it to just the
numbers from Cipher.
Allude
I will allude to more ideas but I will also give you a
couple too. You can walk up to someone and do the
CP30 and then just come back to them in a walk around
situation.
You can add this to things like Locked In thought by Paul

Brook, an anagram, pretty much almost anything.

Look, I have had people say: that doesn’t suit my
persona. Well I didn’t write up these ideas for you
specifically. They started off for me. And you can adapt
this to suit your needs, because you are a mentalist. A
great one I hope.
If you lack the ability to rework this info into your own
style or adapt it for other things, it’s like they say, you
can't polish a turd...
