Course Description:
This course is devised to develop students’ ability to use English in the communicative and purposeful acts of communication through ample and adequate training
and experience in the four language competencies namely: listening, reading, speaking and writing in the components of English language, its sounds, vocabulary,
and grammatical structure. This course provides opportunities for students to engage in communicative use of language so that they achieve not only linguistic
competence but also socio-linguistic competence, knowledge of using language in its social context.
Course Objectives:
At the end of the course, students are expected to:
Cognitive:
1. explain the principles of good and effective communication
2. discuss the grammatical structure, vocabulary and sounds of the English language
3. write cogent sentences manifesting consistency in basic grammar
Affective:
1. explain the importance of verbal and written forms of communication
2. discuss literary pieces as tools for language improvement
3. give importance to the values gleaned from every selection, poem and song being discussed
Psychomotor:
1. speak English with correct pronunciation and diction
2. execute the effective ways of communication
3. make a written output on a particular topic
