How to factory reset an Asus Notebook / Laptop on Windows 8

In this video I show how to perform a factory reset on an Asus laptop running Windows 8. Bear
in mind this is usually a last resort when you encounter problems.

In this case my S200E wouldn't boot any more, it just hung on a message:-

Failure Configuring Windows Updates, Reverting changes, Do not turn off your computer

So, I did a factory reset

Once I get mine to the reset PC mode it says "unable to reset your PC. A required drive partition

OK so I wanted to reset my HP pavilion g6 to factory settings instead of clicking troubleshooting I
clicked return to Windows 10 then I turned it off (taking to long) now when I start it up it goes to
go logo then restarts in and never-ending loop. any ideas?

I fixed mine now by sending it back to the company they said a virus got on the hard drive so
they switched hard drives moved everything on my old hard drive to the new one and sent It
back to me I just rang them and they sent a form I had to fill out then in like 3 days they come to
pick the laptop up and take a look at it

Had the same problem with the Windows Update configure screen and I reset just like you said
and it worked great, got me back onto Windows perfectly. You earn a subscriber, ty so much

I have this exact same Asus laptop it came with Win8 now it has Win8.1 and Classic Shell. The
main thing I learned here is to use F9 instead of the older F8, to get into. THANKS! I think I had
this same problem then after this if you power cycle it goes into a different infinite loop saying
"We couldn't complete the updates. Undoing changes. Do not turn off your computer". That is
where it is stuck now. There are many solutions posted but they all involve getting into Safe
Mode and I can't seem to get there. From the F9 menu then Troubleshoot, then Advanced
Options menu, if I follow steps then select Safe Mode it does not make it to Safe Mode instead it
ends up in the initial screen again!
Unlike the OP, I was not willing to go to a factory reset, so I used the Advanced Options selection
to go to System Restore to revert to an earlier Restore Point. It crunched on this for awhile and
ended up with an error x80070002 and did not restore. I then tried an older Restore Point and it
finished but during reboot afterwards it is now stuck in another infinite loop where the
Automatic Repair options comes up continually. "Automatic Repair couldn't repair your PC". Log
file: C\Windows\System32\Logfiles\Srt\SrtTrail.txt
It still won't boot into Safe Mode from the blue Advanced Options selection, stuck in this loop.
So I gave in and decided to try other Advanced Options from the Troubleshoot menu (via F9).
Refresh your PC didn't work it says the drive where Windows is installed is locked. Then Reset
your PC did not work, it said Unable to reset your PC. A required drive partition is missing.
From reading, the problem here is that the factory installed a Win8 recovery partition but after
you do the free upgrade to Win8.1 then the recovery cannot find the proper "links" to the Win8
recovery partition - it is still there but not found. I am calling Asus and see if I can get some kind
of recovery media to use.
