April Introduction to the Biomed Family

20  First meeting with the boss – sir Caloy
 First meeting with the Technicians – Mr. Jullar,

April “Let’s hear from the expert”-day

7:52 5:06
24  First met Eng. Michael from Mindray
New Era University
College of Engineering and Architecture
Electronics Engineering Department

 He repaired the mainboard and sensor

compressor of the syringe pump Benefusion SP5
 He detected the system error and calibrated the
syringe pump
 We had a little talk about being a student to
becoming an engineer. He gave us tips to pass
the boards.

April Review
25  Mr. Ombrog, a resident technician asked me a
few basic questions about basic electronics.
7:52 5:06  He shared than when you are working in the field,
the most basic – the roots of electronics are very
important to get the job done.

April Wide Workspace

25  Mr. Badua introduced me to their workspace – the
whole hospital and the wide range of work.
 There are two (2) signal bulbs for the calls: Yellow
is for the Bio-Electronics and White for the
7:52 5:06 Biomechanical.
 The first job assigned to me was when the yellow
bulb lights up, it is my duty to fetch the Job Order
or “J.O” Form on the Engineering Dept. outside
the Biomed Section.

April First Field Work

27 8:43 5:48  The first thing I learned outside the Biomed
Section was to calibrate a defibrillator.

Step 1: Energy -> VTach -> Paddle Select ->

(Load Energy) -> Place paddle in the Analyzer ->
the energy detected must be ±10% tolerance
Step 2: Select ECG -> 30bpm to 60bpm should
be the range

May Doing Great, Ms. Assistant
2  Checked on Defibrillators
 Defibrillators are one of the most important device
in the hospital since most of the pathologies are
8:22 12:24 cardiovascular problems.
 Most of the defibrillators are biphasic - 360 cycle
because Monophasic defibrillators results to burs
on the skin of the patients

May Networking Problem

3  Computer monitoring in this kind of hospital is
very important because they serve multiple
patients
7:48 6:02
 Like in SICU 2, room 231A had a problem on its
cables, so immediately we changed it CAT5E
cable

May Preventive Maintenance Day, Friday!

4  PM day is scheduled every Friday to check
7:39 5:07
whether the equipment are in good condition and
if there will be an upcoming malfunctions, errors,
New Era University
College of Engineering and Architecture

and damages to prevent these types of scenarios

immediately.
 Checked on MICU, SICU
 Defibrillators, Cardiac Monitors, Syringe Pumps

May Networking Problem #2

5  We performed troubleshooting on ward 362A
because they encountered a problem on their
buzzer.
 Also, Mr. Ombrog shared to me that even if other
7:27 12:41 malfunctions are not in their scope of work, but
since they know how to repair certain things, they
are obliged to do those. Like what we’ve done on
the fax machine, we replaced its ribbon to aid the
pharmacy on their jobs.

May Hospital Tour: 2nd Edition

8  Emergency Room
7:36 5:42
 Operating Room

May Orientation for the New Resident Nurses

9  Introduction to the Presidential Suite and Hybrid
Operating room
 Accreditation details
7:26 5:50  History
 Safety: plugs, groundings, exposed wires
 Service Request Forms
 Introduction to Medical Equipment
New Era University

May Power Source Trivia

10  Mr. Nisperos taught me one thing I should know
as an electronics-practitioner-wannabe…
 Plugging a load of 110V to a source of 220V has
7:27 5:34
a larger damage cost on board due to overheating
than plugging a load of 220V to source of 110V
which only damage fuse or breaker. Mind blown.

May Preventive Maintenance Day, Friday!

11  Checked on NICU, PICU
7:38 4:44
 Defibrillators, Cardiac Monitors, Syringe Pumps

May Operating Room Features

12  Shadow less Light
 Heart Lung Machine
 Bio-refrigerator – provides right amount of
temperature on specimens
 Ventilator – controls air passage
7:31 5:41
 Hemotherm – controls the body temperature
 Cautery Machine – aids in cutting tissues
 Life scopes
 Coro-Audio – monitors coronary veins
 Cardiac Monitors

May Introduction to EEG

22  Departments like Internal medicine,
6:47 12:03
pharmacology, electrophysiology, psychology
and sports medicine has this device.
New Era University
College of Engineering and Architecture
Electronics Engineering Department

 Direct contact of skin to electrode generates

unnecessary polarization voltage.

May Fax Machine Malfunctions

23  Emergency Room – Film replacement
7:35 5:39
 Pharmacy – Paper Jam

May Sports Science Department

24  Calibration of ECG
7:40 5:12  Frequency Checking
 Current Calibration

May The Little Tester

26  This circuit tester is approximately 2 inches long
and has a neon bulb.
9:02 5:13
 It lights up when there is the presence of current
which excites the neon gas.
