A- GENERAL
1- Purpose
a- Purpose of this Standard.
This standard provides definition of symbols used on drawings
that employ the principles of Geometric Dimensioning and
Tolerancing (G. D. & T.). The examples of geometric symbology,
datum and tolerance values shown in Part 3, "Symbols and
Definitions" are for illustration purposes only and do not
represent all conditions of application.
The symbology and terminology used herein are based on, and
extracted from, "American National Standard Engineering
Drawing and Related Documentation Practices - Dimensioning and
Tolerancing, ANSIY14.5M 1982".
b- Exceptions.
Applications and interpretation of the G. D. & T. System
conforms to ANSIY14.5M -1982 with the following exceptions:
Separate positional callouts are gaged separately regardless
of datum reference.
(1) - Multiple patterns of Features of Size located by basic
dimensions relative to the same datum features of size
and modifiers, referenced in the same order of
precedence, allows each pattern as a group to shift
independently and be gaged separately. This separate
gaging notation applies only to the relationship of one
pattern to another, not to the interrelationship of
features within a pattern callout. The quantity of holes
(or other features) specified directly above the feature
control frame constitute a pattern and have simultaneous
gaging requirements (see Figure 1).
A single asterisk "*" after the paragraph header denotes a technical change to the paragraph. A triple asterisk before and after an item
(*** text ***) identifies the specific changed text.

IMPORTANT: Chrysler Corporation standards, specifications and drawings are subject to frequent revision. It is the users' responsibility
to comply with current versions. Distribution of standards to parties other than Chrysler Corporation suppliers, whether with or without
charge, is for information only. A subscription service is available at reasonable cost, which will automatically provide the subscriber
with current standards. Subscription information or copies of current standards are available from the Engineering Standards & Information
Services Department, Vehicle Engineering Office, Chrysler Corporation.
3- Symbols and Definitions Figures 5 and 6 list the G., D. & T. symbols.
The definitions for these symbols are provided on pages 9 through 16.
- Symbol
-- Symbol
m- Dimension Not To Scale. Used in conjunction with any non-basic
dimension to indicate that the dimension is not measurable on
the drawing.
3.75 -- Symbol
n- Number Of Times/Places. Repetitive features or dimensions are
specified by use of an "X" preceded by a number to indicate
the quantity and succeeded by a dash. This is then followed by
the feature dimension.
8X - -- Symbol
o- Radius (R), Common Radius(CR), Spherical Radius(SR).
Designates a radial feature of size on a drawing. The symbol
must always precede the radial value. The term "COMMON RADIUS"
is to be used in lieu of typical (TYP) with the symbol "CR".
Where the radial value is spherical, the letter "S" precedes
the radius symbol.
R, CR, SR -- Symbols
p- Reference. Designates a dimension on a drawing which is
presented for information only. Reference dimensions are not
to be scaled, measured or otherwise used to determine the
quality or acceptability of a part. The symbol is used in lieu
of "REF".
( ) -- Symbol
INCH METRIC
y- circularity. Each circular element of this surface, in any
plane perpendicular to a common axis, must lie between two
concentric circles - one having a radius 0.08mm(0.003 inch.)
larger than the other within size.
INCH METRIC
z- Cylindricity. This cylindrical surface must lie between two
concentric cylinders - one having a radius 0.08mm(0.003 inch.)
larger than the other within size.
INCH METRIC
aa - Profile of a Line. Each line element of this surface, at any
cross section, must lie between the profile boundaries
0.08mm(.003 inch.) apart.
INCH METRIC
ab - Profile of a Surface. This surface must lie between the
profile boundaries 0.25mm(.010 inch.) apart.
INCH METRIC
ac- Anqularity. This surface must lie, within size, between two
parallel planes 0.25mm(.010 inch.) apart that are inclined at
a basic angle other than 90E to Datum "A".
INCH METRIC
ad - Perpendicularity. This surface must lie, within size, between
two parallel planes 0.25mm(.010 inch.) apart that are
perpendicular to Datum "A".
INCH METRIC
ae - Parallelism. This surface must lie, within size, between two
parallel planes 0.25mm(.010 inch.) apart that are parallel to
Datum "A".
INCH METRIC
af - Positional Tolerance. This feature must be located within a
diametral zone of position of 0.25mm(.010 inch.) at MMC, while
netted to datum surfaces "A", "B" and "C".
INCH METRIC
ag - Positional Tolerance. This feature must be located within a
0.25mm(.010 inch.) diametral zone of position at MMC while
netted to datum surface "A" and Datum "B" at it's MMC. The
projected tolerance zone is 17mm(.625 inch.).
INCH METRIC
INCH METRIC
ai - Positional Tolerance (Coaxial). This feature must be located
within a 0.04mm(.0015 inch.) diametral zone of position at RFS
relative to datum axis "A" at RFS.
INCH METRIC
INCH METRIC
ak- Circular Runout. With the indicator positioned normal to the
specified surface and the part rotated 360E about the specified
datum, each circular element on the measured surface must be
within the specified run out tolerance of 0.04 mm(.0015 inch.)
Full Indicator Movement (FIM). The feature must be within
size, which is checked first. Run out tolerance is independent
of size and is always RFS.
INCH METRIC
INCH METRIC
am - Positional Tolerance (Composite - Feature Control Frame with
Datum Reference). This pattern of features must be located
within a 0.5mm(.020 inch.) diametral zone of position at MMC
relative to datum surfaces "A", "B" and "C". Each feature
within the pattern must be located within a 0.25mm(.010 inch.)
diametral zone of position at MMC relative to datum A and
relative to every other feature within the pattern.
INCH METRIC
Note: Each complete horizontal entry in the feature control frame
shown in this paragraph constitutes a separate requirement and
is gaged separately.
B- REQUIREMENTS
Quality
The supplier must have a quality assurance program in effect assuring
compliance to Chrysler's quality requirements specified within the
quote package, Chrysler's SQA manual Guide to Quality Systems
Requirements, applicable Engineering Standards, and part drawings.
C- CONTROL
This standard number (PS-6013) must appear in the title block of all
drawings which require Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing
Symbology and must be signed off by the designated design department
representative(s). Refer to Figure 7.
