Lesson Objectives (i.e. anticipated outcomes of this lesson, in point form beginning with an action verb)

As a result of this lesson, students will be able to:

 Improve motor skills in a fun and controlled environment
 Practice the skill of underarm throwing
Teacher’s Prior Preparation/Organisation: Provision for students at educational risk:
 Tennis ball or mini beanbag for each student  Weaker students may struggle so to enable the
 Cones signaling boundaries for main game task, have them practice their underarm throws
to themselves or with a partner standing close.

LESSON EVALUATION (to be completed AFTER the lesson)

Assessment of Lesson Objective and Suggestions for Improvement:
 Another improvement would be more carefully selecting the teams or changing them after the first round so
there is an even amount of ‘skill’ in each team.
 By the third round, we got straight into the game and omitted the time to practice the underarm throw. The
students were more engaged this way and got more out of the lesson.

Teacher self-reflection and self-evaluation:

 After this PE lesson I realize I would (and the students would in turn) benefit from being more assertive and
find better techniques to get the students attention. When there is a time limit I need to remember that being
gentle is not always the best way to go – especially in a setting where students are energetic and want to run
around I need to be willing to raise my voice and get the instructions across more clearly.

LESSON DELIVERY (attach worksheets, examples, marking key, etc, as relevant)

Time Motivation and Introduction:
 WALT: Participate in the warm up and games to improve underarm

throwing skills in a fun and controlled environment.

 Call the students in to the group and have them get into partners Tennis balls
straight away ready for the first warm up.
 Ask students if they know the correct way to underarm throw a ball.
Give a quick demonstration of putting your opposite foot to your
throwing arm forward, gliding your arm front past your side and let go
Warm Up
 Split students into pairs and give them one ball per group.

 Encourage the students to throw the ball underarm and catch it with
both hands (10 catches each, counting out loud)

 Then once they do this, ask the students to throw the ball underarm
and TRY to catch with right hand only (10 catches each, counting out
loud)

 For stronger students have them repeat the task with left hand (or
opposite hand to dominant hand)

 If students finish quickly and are waiting for others to finish, ask them
to throw the ball underarm above their partners head (10 catches
each, counting out loud)

Lesson Steps (Lesson content, structure, strategies & Key Questions):

Main Exercise
 Split the group into two teams and have them line up in a straight line,
with one member being the leader facing their team 2 metres away Markers

 Place markers at the start and end of the line so that the students
know where to stand from the start

 The leader throws the ball underarm to the first student who then
catches the ball, places it at their feet, and runs around the leader and
all of the other students in the team. When that student gets back to
their spot they throw the ball back to the leader and then duck down.

 This process continues until the final student in line catches the ball,
drops it at their feet, runs around the lead marker and then throws the
ball back to the leader.

 The winner of the game is the team who completes the task first and
has all team members, including the leader, sitting down.

 If time allows, repeat the game making sure students take care when
underarm throwing to the leader so that they can focus their skill.

Transition: (What needs to happen prior to the next lesson?)

 Line up straight ready to head off to the next PE rotation.

Assessment: (Were the lesson objectives met? How will these be judged?)
 Notice any students really struggling and report findings to PE teacher
