Countermeasure against Jam 0107, which occurs on the second side of sheet in two-sided copy under high-humidity
environment.
Detail:
We informed you of the remedy with v18.01 of the DC Controller software. Upon updating software v20.01, we
change the remedy and we will inform you of the new procedure for the remedy.

Remedy against jams on the 2nd side of a duplex print


<Symptom>
0107 Jam may occur when a sheet gets into the Drum Cleaner when the second side is being started during the
two-sided copying under high-humidity environment.
<Cause>
When the sheet absorbs moisture at two-sided copy, it largely curls against the first side after it is copied. Then,
at the second side copying, the curling matches the Drum peripheral and that leads to jam because the sheet
cannot be separated from the Drum.
<Factory measures>
Change the setting range in Service Mode for field service using DC-Controller software v20.01.
Along with this, the Service Manual is modified.

Service work:
When the symptom above occurs, make an adjustment referring to the attached file. At that time, the version
of DC-Controller software should be v20.01.

Points to note about service work:


This setting improves feeding, however, as a harmful effect, poor transfer may cause the blank area around the
leading edge of 5 to 7 mm. Refer to page 3 of attached file, "[Note] Setting against Blank area caused by poor
transfer" and make an adjustment.

Procedure against Jam (0107) at the second side of two-sided copy
(DC-controller Ver. 20.01)

1. Change of temperature in fixing temperature control (Plain / Thick) (Refer to P-1)


In order to reduce curling of the first side, lower the fixing control temperature by 20 degrees
Celsius when the room temperature is 21 deg C or higher. (If the room temperature is less
than 21 deg C, be sure neither to let paper get excess moisture, nor to decrease the fixing
control temperature. Otherwise, fixing faults will be caused.) This change causes the
temperature in fixing temperature for thick paper to lower. In order to prevent poor fixing
due to this, raise the temperature in fixing temperature control for thick paper to 15 degrees
Celsius.

Set FIX-TEMP [1] to ‘3’ under SERVICE MODE > COPIER > OPTION > BODY.

Celsius)
Set TEMP-CON [2] to ‘7’ under SERVICE MODE > COPIER > OPTION > BODY.
[NOTE]
If FIX-TEMP [1] is set to ‘3’ and TEMP-CON [2] to ‘7’, the plain paper fixing control temperature
will not drop and, in addition, the thick paper fixing control temperature will be higher by 15 deg C
when the room temperature is less than 21 deg C; however, the fact will not lead to any problem.

2. Adjustment to improve separation efficiency of the second side in automatic two-sided
copy (Refer to P-2)
Set transfer bias current to off around the leading edge 5 to 7mm of the second side

Set the following two conditions to TR-SW1/SW2

Set the value of TR-SW1.
Select ‘1’ in PPR-SLCT under SERVICE MODE > COPIER > OPTION > COMBO.
Select ‘2’ in MOD-SLCT under SERVICE MODE > COPIER > OPTION > COMBO.
Select ‘1’ in ENV-SLCT under SERVICE MODE > COPIER > OPTION > COMBO.
Select TR-SW1 under SERVICE MODE > COPIER > OPTION > COMBO, press ‘1’ of the
numeric keypad, and press OK. This procedure sets the value of TR-SW1.

Set the value of TR-SW2.


Select ‘1’ in PPR-SLCT under SERVICE MODE > COPIER > OPTION > COMBO.
Select ‘3’ in MOD-SLCT under SERVICE MODE > COPIER > OPTION > COMBO.
Select ‘1’ in ENV-SLCT under SERVICE MODE > COPIER > OPTION > COMBO.
Select TR-SW2 under SERVICE MODE > COPIER > OPTION > COMBO, press ‘1’ of the
numeric keypad, and press OK. This procedure sets the value of TR-SW2.

3. Setting of loading time / level of leading edge transfer bias current (Refer to P-3)
Set the loading time of leading edge transfer bias current and the current level applied to the
transfer roller.

3-1. Set the loading time of leading edge transfer bias current.
Set TR-TP-TM [3] to ‘80’ for iR2270/2870/2230, ‘50’ for iR3570/4570/3530/4530 under
SERVICE MODE > COPIER > ADJUST > HV-TR.

3-2. Set the level of leading edge transfer bias current.


Set TR-TP-LV [4] to ‘50’ under SERVICE MODE > COPIER > ADJUST > HV-TR.

[NOTE] Setting against Blank area caused by poor transfer


Lower the level of leading edge transfer bias current to 60% and in order to make up for it,
lengthen the loading time. But, this makes separation efficiency down a bit compared to the
setting above. Therefore, if jam occurs, this setting should not be done.

Set TR-TP-TM [3] to ‘100’ for iR2270/2870/2230, ‘65’ for iR3570/4570/3530/4530 under
SERVICE MODE > COPIER > ADJUST > HV-TR.
Set TR-TP-LV [4] to ‘48’ for iR2270/2870/2230 and iR3570/4570/3530/4530 under SERVICE
MODE > COPIER > ADJUST > HV-TR.

4. Visual check method of loading part of leading edge transfer bias current
Output A4 size half-tone two-sided print in test print mode of service mode, and check the blank
area width at the leading edge of the second side.

4-1. Check of the leading edge transfer bias width at cassette feeding
Select ‘5’ in TYPE under SERVICE MODE > COPIER > Test > PG.
Select ‘1’ in PG-PICK under SERVICE MODE > COPIER > Test > PG.
Select ‘1’ in 2-SIDE under SERVICE MODE > COPIER > Test > PG.
Press Start button, and check the blank area width at the leading edge of the second side.

4-2. Check of leading edge transfer bias width at multi-feeding


Select ‘5’ in TYPE under SERVICE MODE > COPIER > Test > PG.
Select ‘6’ in PG-PICK under SERVICE MODE > COPIER > Test > PG.
Select ‘1’ in 2-SIDE under SERVICE MODE > COPIER > Test > PG.
Press Start button, and check the blank area width at the leading edge of the second side.
