BYOD - FAQs

Question: What is BYOD?


Answer: Jazz offers a Bring Your Own Device (“BYOD”) policy that allows employees to use their
preferred laptops and tablets to perform work duties.
Question: Who is eligible for BYOD?
Answer: This policy applies to all Jazz FTE (Full Time Employees) employees who require IT
devices for official work purposes.
Question: What should I do with my existing (company owned) device?
Answer: Employee will be given the buyback option if/when the Buyback is reached already,
device will be given FOC.

Question: What is the current buyback tenure of the device?


Answer: End of life of current company owned devices or renewal of BYOD is set to 3 Years
Question: How can I apply for BYOD Allowance?
Answer: Employee has to raise the request through People Hub.
Question: What is the BYOD allowance in rupees as per the policy?
Answer: Employee will get PKR 110,000, as an allowance transferred to their salaried account
through payroll for Device, accessories and Insurance
Question: Can the BYOD amount be used other purchases?
Answer: PKR 110,000 to be given as an allowance and can ONLY be used to purchase a device,
relevant accessories and Insurance.
Question: Is there a time limit to purchase the device after getting the allowance?
Answer: 60 days (at max) will be provided to employee after allowance disbursement to
purchase device, have device inspected (proof of receipt, warranty and insurance) and
configured by IT.
Question: Where can I buy the laptop\tablet?
Answer: IT has the preferred vendor list from where employee can opt for the device. However,
there is no restriction of the device manufacturer & supplier
Question: Are there any specified device specs?
Answer: There are minimum specs for the BYOD device:
Processor: Intel, Core i5, 6th Generation or above; RAM: 8GB, HD: 500GB,
Webcam: Integrated Web-Cam, Warranty: 3 Years NBD warranty including battery
& charger, Accessories: All accessories related to notebook for connecting with external
display VGA, HDMI and LAN, Licensing: Windows 10 Professional 64-bit OEM license

Question: Do I need to present the device to IT?
Answer: Yes, Jazz IT will ensure the specs as per policy and register the device to Jazz Network
and install necessary applications for official use.
Question: What if the warranty is less than 3 Years?
Answer: If the warranty is less than 3 Years, It is not recommended for purchase. The device
must have 3 Years manufacturer’s warranty including battery and adapter or IT may
reject the device for network authorization
Question: Is the insurance mandatory? And how to get insurance?
Answer: Insurance is mandatory as per policy. To get insurance, employee will send an email to
the dedicated POC with Laptop details: Serial No, Make and Model, Employed Card, NIC
and payment to their account. Details can be viewed in Insurance Guidelines
Question: What is the premium required by insurance company?
Answer: Insurance company (Currently EFU) is offering 2.11% premium on the total value of
laptop.
Question: How do I process the claim for device insurance?
Answer: You need to send an email to the Jazz POC & the insurance company’s POCs, with details
of the Serial No, Make and Model, Employed Card, NIC along with the Loss description

Question: How long would the insurance period be?


Answer: The Insurance period is for 3 years.
Question: What if the Insurance company rejects the claim?
Answer: Employees are responsible to purchase new \ repair existing device with own amount.
Question: What type of claims \ cases will be covered?
Answer: Accidental Damages, theft, burglary and short-circuit are covered subject to the
Insurance company’s approval
Question: Jazz Offices & employees are spread across different locations, so how will the insurance
company manage the registration & claims?
Answer: All claims will be registered through an email from a dedicated POC at Jazz. The
insurance company will then appoint a surveyor to visit the locations to correlate
details.
Question: In how many days will the claim will be processed and the amount be transferred?
Answer: The claim will be settled within 30 days of the surveyor’s final report.
Question: Who will be responsible for device maintenance?
Answer: Employees are responsible for device maintenance and hardware issues, where if
required IT team will support in providing a temporary device for 30 working days

Question: What if more than 30 days are required for the device to get repaired?
Answer: Employee must inform IT with business justification and share Line manager’s approval
to extend the time of the loan of the temporary device however, extension will be
granted by IT for critical cases only.
Question: What will happen if I leave the organization within 3 Years of BYOD option availed?
Answer: If an employee leaves the organization within 3 Years after the BYOD option is availed,
prorate amount (of remaining months based on Disbursed Amount and date) shall be
deducted from final settlement. The deducted amount will be inclusive of sales tax.
Question: Can I return the BYOD device to Jazz upon my resignation in 3Years plan?
Answer: The device cannot be returned to Jazz. Employee has to retain the device.
Question: What should I do in case the device is lost?
Answer: Employees must report lost, misplaced or stolen BYOD devices to the IT department
within 24 hours to ensure adequate data security measures are undertaken. Employees
have to claim the loss through insurance. If the claim has been reported during the
policy term the claim may be payable depending on the final claim report findings.
Question: Is the allowance taxable?
Answer: No, the allowance is not taxable. However Upon completion of 3 years or earlier due to
end of employment, the Company will determine the FMV (Fair Market Value) of the
device and consider it as taxable perquisite or benefit in the hands of the employee and
recover appropriate withholding tax.

Question: What process will be followed for New Hire’s Device?


Answer: IT team will support in configuring their personal devices. However, in case personal
device is not available IT team will support in providing the temporary device.
Question: Who will be responsible for device accessories?
Answer: Employee is responsible for all associated accessories like Mouse, Keyboard, DVD Drive,
External HDD, Power cables, Adapter, Docking station, External Display, convertors for
connecting with external display VGA, HDMI & LAN, etc.

Question: What if I procure the iPad/Microsoft Surface?


Answer: Mentioned products are not officially launched by their principal manufacturers in
Pakistan hence no vendor is providing their official warranty & support in Pakistan. If the
official warranty is less than 3 Years, It is not recommended for purchase. The device
must have 3 Years warranty including battery and adapter.
