A summary list of those changes is provided below. A Definitions section has been added to more fully describe the characteristics of the various contaminant types presented in this OIS. PIREPs (Pilot Reports) are frequently used to indicate the noted braking characteristics. The correlation between PIREPs and contaminant types is presented as part of this revision. FAA SAF; (Safety Alert for Operators) 06012 establishes a requirement for flight crews to conduct a new “enroute” assessment of landing distance expected at time of arrival and based on the existing runway surface condition. Details on how to implement this SAFO requirement are contained in this latest revision. For takeoff and landing on contaminated runways, there is no longer a restriction on both thrust reversers being operative. Correction factors are now provided if one or both thrust reversers are inoperative. The maximum allowable depth of standing water for takeoff on a contaminated runway has been extended from 10 mm to 15 mm (the maximum allowed under EASA (European Aviation Safety Agency) rules). For accelerate-go takeoff performance on a contaminated runway, 2 levels of performance are provided. For equivalent water depths between 3 mm (0.12 in.) and 5 mm (0.2 in.), shorter takeoff distances are possible by using a V; less than Ver. For equivalent water depths between 5 mm (0.2 in.) and 15 mm (0.6 in.), it is necessary to use V; = Vp criteria to ensure that the takeoff can be safely continued with one engine inoperative. For landing operations on a runway contaminated with standing water, slush or loose snow, it is no longer necessary to account for the depth of the contaminant.
