FOREWORD

Dear Parents & Guardians,

Welcome to Kids Republic – June 2018 Edition newsletter!

Praise be to God, the academic year of 2017/ 2018 has passed. In May, we had celebrated the
graduation of 27 President students. We could not be more proud of what they have achieved. Not
only academically, but I also could not be more proud to watch how they have grown and developed
into such lovely, caring, and kind persons.

There are surely still so many rooms left for improvements at our Graduation event last May
and we are waiting for your inputs, nevertheless, I am very happy to watch Kids Republic students
performed confidently in front of hundreds of audiences. They have shown a very significant
progress and achievements. I am even more than happy to see them learning by themselves that
practices make perfect, that to achieve the impossible can be done by believing in ourselves and by
doing hardworks. And this is something that I want them to remember in their future. That when
we fail to prepare, we are preparing for the failure itself.

This year, we chose “Zootopia Academy: Where Anyone Can Be Anything” as the theme,
because we want the children to believe that impossible is nothing. That they can be anything as
long as they work hard and pray hard.

In this opportunity, I want to express my gratitude and appreciation to Ms. Zita Anjani, Ms.
Futri Zulya and family for all support, management team at Yayasan Batin Cahaya Bangsa, my
beloved fellow teachers, coaches, staffs, helpers, securities, and freelancers for making this
academic year happened. You’re all AWESOME!

All my appreciation and love are also dedicated to all parents of Kids Republic School, PSG,
and of course to my beloved students from Mayor, Governor, Minister, President, and Gymnastic
Program. Thank you for the abundant love and support, and bravo for the amazing performances!

Last but not least, I would like to apologize for all mistakes and misunderstandings. For
Muslims, may all of us find peace on this Ramadhan. May the spirit of Ramadhan stay in our heart
and illuminate our soul from within.

Happy holiday and welcome Academic Year of 2018/ 2019!

Yours Sincerely,
Rakhmi Ramdhani
Principal of Education

Year-End Concert/Graduation. Our theme
for this year is KIDS REPUBLIC X
ZOOTOPIA. We wore animal’s costumes
and each class represented a habitat of
each animal, such like Governor A wore

penguins and polar bears as represented

for Tundra. Governor B wore Sand Cat,
Cactus, Fox, Camel as represented for
Sahara. The students were so happy and
excited to wear the animal costumes.
The students performed dancing in
the concert. Governor A danced the
“Happy” song and Governor B danced the
“Fire works” song. The students had
practiced the dancing since March. Not
only dancing, some of them also
performed gymnastic and ballet dance.

The concert was held on May 6th. Anyway, the concert went well. The students and the
parents were so happy with the concert. The students showed the performance greatly.
Couldn’t be more proud of you kiddos! Good job! Even after the concert ended, they still
wanted to dance to the song that they had performed in the concert.
Last, I wish you good luck in Minister Class kids, wish you have fun and create another

MINISTER CLASS

May is a month full of surprises for all students and parents of Kids Republic School. In
this month, President Students will celebrate their graduation and will be more mature to
face the new world and new adventures. However, to complete and celebrate this event, all
students should participate in this event, such as dance, gym, karate, ballet, and others.
All students are scheduled to practice every Monday and Wednesday. Every Monday,
we practice in each class and every Wednesday, we train together and all classes are
combined in the gym and dance room. Even though the exercise took so much and they
needed to go home late, we did this to make our show successful and all of the performers
felt satisfied.
Since last March, all the students had been selected what they would show. The
graduation theme is Zootopia, where anyone can be anything. All students acted as
anmalis in 4 different habitats. The habitats are Savana, Sahara, Tundra, and Rain forest.
This show was very lively.

PRESIDENT CLASS

In the beginning of the month, the President students were very busy preparing their
big event, Graduation. They have prepared their performance since March. Most of the
days were filled with practices and rehearsal. They needed to memorize their dances, the
gym movement, songs, and then their own spot on the stage. Even though it was hard, they
were very happy doing all the practices. Great job, kiddo!
Costumes were another challenge. Since the theme
was Zootopia Academy, they needed to be animals which
habit in four different habitats such as Tundra,
Savanna, Sahara, and Rainforest. All have done just in
time, it was a perfect outfit for them. However, the
challenge was to change the costume from animals to
graduals robes with limited time schedule. We were very
proud of the kids as they knew how to change clothes
independently and be aware of the time schedule.
On the day of Graduation, all students were
prepared. They came in the backstage with good mood.
They listened to instruction well, were aware of their
position, and preformed greatly. All sweat and tears
during practice were paid on the day. Thank you parents
for supporting the teachers to make it out the best for
every performer. The event went out successfully, many
compliments were made, and it felt so good to hear the
output from everyone. We hope you had enjoyed the
event itself.
This month also was the last month for the students
to be present in the classroom and be with their friends.
On May 24-25, the report card distribution will be
marked as the final moment. Congratulations to all
graduates. We are hoping they will be successful in their
next journey. Just remember to always study and read

PRESIDENT CLASS

many books, which will nourish your knowledge. Sadly to say goodbye to all the president
students, memories will be kept in our heart forever.
Here are some ideas on how to keep busy during school holiday;
1. Go on holiday. It will be great to take a rest
after a year full of studying. You can travel to
new places around the world and explore many
interesting places along the way. Practice your
English as you speak to the foreigners.
Communicate well with great manners such as
greeting to everyone and saying please and
thank you. Be an independent traveler, try to
pack your own stuff, be responsible to the
things that you bring from home. Parents,
holiday is a great way to teach them how to
value differences around them and bond time
with the whole family.
2. Visit museums and libraries. There are many
museums in Jakarta that can be explored. It is
worth of money, too. Jakarta also owns a
library in Kemendikbud area and a new national
library in Medan Merdeka area.
3. Join summer camp activities. Many summer
camps will be held, find information about the
registration via internet. Kids Republic also
opens for summer camp activities from May 28
to June 8. Don’t forget to register your child in
AO.
4. Doing art projects. Many children love to draw
and color in President class. Challenge them
with drawing activities, which has a theme, for
example week 1 outer space, week 2 under the

PRESIDENT CLASS

sea, week 3 around the house, week 4

family. At the end you can have
exhibitions and invite other friends to
visit your exhibition at home.
5. Play date. One way to make kids
happy is to meet their peer.
Schedule play date for your child,
make sure they know the ground
rule if they go to their friend’s
house, such as to tidy up toys that
they have used.
6. Review the lessons from activity
books. Whether you have many
collections of activity book or
from the school, try to do it at
least one hour a day. Make a
routine schedule for an hour to
complete their activity book. If
they are having any difficulty, it
means they need to review it
again. Reading a book before
going to bed is one way to review
the lesson, too. Make a visible
target for them such as
completing 2 pages for 30 minutes
or use two books at least for a day.
7. Do household chores. As
Montessori has taught them in
EPL area, make use of their skill at
home. It can be folding a cloth and
putting it inside the drawer,

11
PRESIDENT CLASS

watering the garden, washing their own shoes or bike, and cleaning up their own bed
and toys. It is a great way to apply the teaching at home.
We hope all of the students have a pleasant holiday and ready to be in the Elementary
school. Good luck and be brave, Au Revoir!

GYMNASTIC CLASS

Gymnastics Graduation Performance

On May 6th, this Graduation & End of year concert was successfully executed. The
biggest event that KR has in this year with the theme is Zootopia: Anyone can be Anything.
The show featuring educational and gymnastics was a combination of drama musical and
show performance of gymnastics in every scene. The event was divided into 5 scenes
including Bunny Burrow, Tundra, Sahara, Savanna, and Rainforest. Only in Bunny Burrow,
lil' dance, karate, and ballet performed without any gymnastics skills. In addition, Bunny
Burrow is a combination of gymnastics skills, gymnastics dance, and education dance.

These are some of the ways you can foster STEM thinking skills with your little one:
Have “manipulative toys” around. These allow children to transform them into
something else, depending on how they play with them. For example, a rattle can be
loud or soft, depending on how hard they shake it.
Engage in “repetitive play”. Repeating actions over and over, like dropping a toy and
picking it up time after time, helps children learn about complex concepts like
gravity and cause and effect.
Practice the “four kinds of play”. Pretend play fosters creativity and imagination;
exploratory play allows children to conduct experiments about their surroundings;
guided play includes interactions and learning with adults, and free play lets them
take the reins.
Ask “how”, “why” and “what” questions constantly to get your little one thinking
and questioning his or her experiences.
Introduce new words to your child’s vocabulary. Use advanced and accurate words
to describe what you’re doing, even from a very young age.
Elizabeth Rood, director of the Center for Childhood Creativity, advices parents to not
get so hung up on teaching their children. Instead, focus on having and experience with
them to tap into the wonder of math, science and engineering that is all around us.

What are the possible causes of a tantrum:

Temperament: Your child’s tolerance for frustration can influence his or her
reaction. A kid who gets easily upset may be quicker to react and have more
tantrums
Hunger, tiredness and overstimulation: These sensations are difficult to decipher
for children. Ever heard the phrase hangry? Body needs have a great impact on our
behavior and not noticing them can be triggers for tantrums.
Frustration and loss of control: If a toddler wants to complete a task above his or
her developmental level or is faced with the will power of an older child or sibling, he
or she might cope with a tantrum.
Big emotions: Emotions such as anger, shame and worry can be overwhelming for
children.

21
Parent Info

Dealing with my child’s tantrums:

It is important to note that tantrums are a normal part of growing up, but there are
things you can do as a parent to make them less likely to occur.
Have a routine: If you make sure your little one is fed and rested you can reduce
tantrums due to physical needs.
Tune in: Become aware of your child’s feelings. Put yourself in your little one’s shoes
and try to imagine what it must be like for him or her. Also, help your little one
manage by naming the feeling and redirecting his or her attention to something else
that he or she likes.
Know your little one’s triggers: If your little one always has a tantrum during an
outing try to plan ahead with appropriate toys, make sure he or she is fed and
rested, and try to choose environments that prevent tantrums.
Teach emotional literacy: Even if your little one does not speak yet he or she is
always paying attention. If he or she has a fit and throws a toy instead of
immediately reprimanding him or her, name the action and emotion that goes along
with it. For example, “You threw the toy because you got frustrated. I understand it
is hard, let me help you out so you don’t have to feel that way”.
Provide adequate toys and activities: Create a play-friendly space with toys that
engage your toddler but are not way above his or her level of development because
trying to complete them only causes frustration.

22
Parent Info

We know it is tough to watch your little one deal with a whirlwind of emotions. Be sure
to care for yourself too. Here are some tips that can help you deal with these difficult
situations:
Remember that your child’s brain is still developing and the prefrontal lobe
responsible for self-regulation is not mature yet.
Take a moment to breathe, stay present and remain calm. Creating space between
your child’s reaction and yours can help you regulate your response.
Acknowledge your child’s difficult feelings and your own too. Compassion and
self-compassion are key!
Don’t try to reason or correct your child during the tantrum, let him or her blow off
steam and intervene immediately and calmly if he or she is at risk of getting hurt or
hurting someone else. It is important that your child understands that big feelings
are not to be feared.
Be firm, kind and consistent. If you need to hold a limit don’t budge, empathize with
your child, be unconditionally accepting and hear him or her out, but don’t give in if
the limit is important to his or her wellbeing. Being consistent helps your child feel
safe and learn the limits.
Finally, be sure to model self-regulation but ask for help too. If we ‘lose it’ too, we
model this behavior to our children. But since we are only human, it is important that
we also take a break, ask for help and repair when we make mistakes.
Teaching your child appropriate ways of behavior is essential to his or her
development, but be sure to connect before you correct. Positive parenting experts agree
that a strong connection between parent and child is the best way to teach and guide
children towards the best versions of themselves.
