INDIAN INSTITUTE OF NURSING

Introduction:

Nursing is the profession or practice of providing care for the sick and infirm. Nurse is a
profession within the health care sector focused on the care of individuals, families, and
communities so they may attain, maintain, or recover optimal health and quality of life.

Nursing was started during ancient civilization. Before the 19th century as people believed in
superstitions. During the Crimean war (it was a military conflict fought from October 1853
to February 1856 in which the Russian empire lost to an alliance of the ottoman
empire, France, Britain and Sardinia) people were wounded and fought with their lives. During
this period so many people were died due to lack of awareness of proper nursing. After the
Crimean war to attain all these problems a method of new professional nursing was
developed by a “Florence Nightingale”. Nursing is one of the most important components of
hospital services. Nursing in a wider context is that part of the total health organisation which
aims to satisfy the nursing needs of the community. The major objectives of which are to
provide:

(I) Nursing care required for the prevention of disease and promotion of health.
(II) the nursing care of sick patients (a) in the interest of his or her mental and
physical comfort, and (b) by reason of the disease from which he or she is
suffering the major.

The first nursing school was started in 1860 by the Florence Nightingale at St.Thomas
hospital, London.

Need for the Study: Every year, millions of people are affected by both human-caused and
natural disasters. Disasters may be explosions, earthquakes, floods, hurricanes, tornados, or
fires. In a disaster, person face the danger of death or physical injury. In order to survive
these people hospitals are increasing. To provide aid in the hospitals nurses are required. So
that there is a need of educate the Nursing to the people to provide in the hospitals.

Aim:

To design a contemporary nurse training campus.

Objectives:
Design using latest techniques in construction.
Design of built forms should be in contemporary style.
Organizing the spaces without disturbing the function.
Limitations:
Designing a campus for the 750 students.
Plumbing & electrical services are up to the planning level.

Scope:
In India as the technology increases, various types building sectors are establishing day-by-
day. The environment is polluting due to the wastes emitting from the different buildings. So
to provide good health to the people who are affected by the environmental pollution
hospitals are required. To provide aid in the hospitals nurses are required. According to the
INA (Indian Nursing Association) by the end of 2020, 3.44 million nurses are required. As
the nurses are required it leads to the increase in the nursing institutes. So it leads to the more
scope of designing the nursing campus to guide the nursing to the people.
