1 Shared Vision

Candidates facilitate the development and implementation of a shared vision for the effective use
of technology to promote excellence and support transformational change throughout the
organization.

Description

The Shared Vision and Rationale artifact was created for the ITEC 7410 Technology

Leadership & Vision in Schools course. This artifact’s purpose was to develop an understanding

of the process involved with developing a shared technology vision for a school ensuring to

incorporate all the involved stakeholders. After collaborating with several stakeholders in our

school, our Technology Team gathered collected survey data and prioritized its components as

well as dissected our school mission/vision statement. During this process our team was able to

create a shared technology vision for our school that incorporates the development of effective

technology use to support student mastery of the Georgia Performance Standards.

My role in our school’s Technology Team transformed to a facilitator role in order to

lead the collaboration needed to create our shared vision for effective technology practices. In

transforming to a facilitator position, I was able to present researched based rationale that

supported our shared vision. In addition to providing this rationale, I was able to ensure that our

shared vision will guide and inform continuous improvement through increased feedback

opportunities.

Standard Mastery

Creating this artifact allowed for me to demonstrate mastery of the shared vision standard

by incorporating a variety of stakeholders to provide input on the needs of our technology

practices. Allowing for this varied input demonstrated the importance of all stakeholder groups

in order to prioritize our goals, implement reflective and collaborative practices, and ensure all
available resources are utilized. ITSE’s Essential Conditions refers to the need for a shared

vision in schools in order to drive effective technology implementation plan designed to see what

we would like to see our school achieve and how we plan on getting there. Creating this artifact

allowed for this to guide our technology vision for our school since there was not a previous

vision.

In order to facilitate the development of our shared vision, we first had to meet as a

Technology Team, which consisted of representatives of all stakeholders, to develop a survey in

order to receive initial feedback of our current practices. After completion of the survey, I

compiled the results and presented the data to the team. As facilitator, I was next able to help

guide our team to decide how to prioritize our goals. After this step, I then provided research

based information to express the importance of developing a shared vision as well as the need for

all stakeholders to have a clear understanding of this vision. In our final vision meeting, we

created a clear and understandable shared vision for our school. Lastly, I developed needed

materials to facilitate a professional learning opportunity for all of our stakeholders to attend in

order to gain the need knowledge of our shared vision.

Learning Gained

In creating this artifact, I gained a new knowledge of the importance of creating a clear

and attainable shared vision for effective technology practices. Incorporating all stakeholder

groups was also vital to this process in order to ensure our goals represented everyone involved

in creating our vision. Another crucial piece to creating this vision was to develop consistent

opportunities to re-evaluate and receive feedback continuously.

One area that I would like to improve on is the area of addressing our socio-economic

and gender-based students. Our school currently does not have a large population of SES
students and evidence of a technology gender divide is not clear. Although currently our school

does not need to address these areas, the future could determine something entirely different. As

our enrollment grows, our demographics will change and in order to successfully achieve our

goals, these areas need to be clearly addressed in order to remain proactive in our efforts. In

incorporating more emphasis on these issues, the quality of this artifact would certainly improve.

Impact on School Improvement, Faculty Development, or Student Learning

Developing a clear shared vision and rationale for our school creates an impact on school

improvement efforts in order to provide effective technology practices to ensure authentic

student learning opportunities. Since our shared vision describes each stakeholder’s role, this

helps to develop an understanding of how it applied to their role. In order to assess our impact,

we will see a continuous growth in students achievement through state mandated assessments.

Analysing the data collected through these assessments will continue to help guide and evaluate

our vision.
