Abstract

Modern hand-held devices such as smart phones have become increasingly powerful in
recent years. However, there are some applications that allow users to flexibly execute tasks
which are done by personal computer (PC), laptop etc. As mobile devices become more like PCs
they will come to replace objects to accomplish necessary tasks. If any mobile applications have
developed to mitigate administrative work as well as fulfill user (other than administrator)
requirement, then task can be complete within the smart phone, ClasstechOnline Application
which is developed for Android base platform falls into this category. The prime objective of
“ClasstechOnline Application” is to take quiz for any individuals through internet and instructor
will upload lesson. Multiple choice questions will arrive for any interviewee with certain time
limit for each quiz. Each lesson provides questions, answers and timer must be configured by an
administrator and these administrative tasks including user creation can be done from
“ClasstechOnline Application”. Besides, report will generate with score where administrator can
check for interviewee’s result.

iv
Statement of ethics

No sensitive data was collected. Users’ emails from the mobile application were not
published to anyone. None of these email addresses were used for spamming, phishing or
advertising purposes. The aim of the mobile application development was to offer a mobile
learning application to the education community.

INTRODUCTION

In today’s world, Smart phones have changed our lives and have become an
indispensable part of our lives because of its specialty to simplify our routine work and thereby
saving our time. A Smartphone with an Android OS offers excellent functionality to the users
offering a distinct experience. Android is a Linux based operating system and it was bought by
Google in 2007. There are tons of applications available and one of the prime reasons for this
vast number is android being an open source. On the other hand, android based device like
mobile, tab is very user friendly. Mobile tools are owned and used by everyone irrespective of
their age, nationality or gender; they are embedded with computer functionalities and their ease
of use, mobility and functionality enable the people to use and move around with the devices
everywhere they go. The pricing models of the devices vary depending on the device capability,
the supplier and the business logic behind the device; some devices are relatively expensive
while others are inexpensive. Mobile devices are transforming the way in which we live, work
and play. The sophistication of these devices fascinates almost all the learners thus learners are
familiar with and fluent in using digital technologies.

Development of Classtech Online Mobile application is mainly required by students and

learners to prepare themselves for different examinations directly through smart phones and
tablets in hands. One of the major goals of our project is to facilitate students in learning, gaining
and improving their knowledge skills. At the meantime, our app provides them fun so that the
users can prepare for interviews, entrance tests or any other corresponding purposes in a fresh
mood and can’t get bored or frustrated due to dullness of app. We designed the application to
facilitate the users to be able to take short quizzes after they read the lesson using portable
devices such as smart phones and tablets.

Classtech Online Mobile Application comprises any kind of learning which is done on
mobile and hand-held gadgets either in or out of class, or learning which takes place ‘on the go’,
as part of class time, or outside. Although mobile learning is often taken to be synonymous with
the use of mobile phones, it is increasingly associated with other devices such as tablets, portable
games machines, eBook’s and other devices which allow people to continue more traditional
approach to learning as they move through their daily lives. As such it fits comfortably into
definitions of blended learning.
1
It has provided with creative freedom, endless resources and learning materials, and the
possibility to teach students from all corners of the globe. True believer in the importance of
technology in the classroom and e-learning as a platform for teaching.

However, more and more students are using mobile devices to connect to the web.
Mobile teaching (or ClasstechOnline App) is the ability to learn anywhere and at any time using
a portable electronic device.

The learning process changes over time, much like the lifestyle and the terms and
qualifications of employment do. The learning process welcomes more reinforcing components,
which contribute to the development of information, communication and interactive
environment. For example, the rapid development of web technology, such as the internet, brings
teaching to the fore. Classtech Online Application is defined as any use of web technology to
create educational activities and experiences. The potential is exciting and amazing.

An easy way in to mobile learning is to assess which gadgets you already have in class.
As many school’s struggle to afford technology investments, the BYOD (Bring Your Own
Device) option is becoming more attractive as a way of integrating technologies into the learning
process. There’s a very good chance that your learners will already be carrying around the
gadgets you want to use, so check what they have first.

Learners may be surprised to be asked to take out and turn on their mobile phones in
class (particularly if your school has had a no mobile policy for some time), so the first thing to
do is to ensure they know why you’re asking them to do that. Take time to explore what their
gadgets can do, and how they might use them in the service of their learning. Look at the
different features of each phone and brainstorm possible uses.

2
Statement of the General Problem
Most people believe that mobile devices can be a great distraction for participants,
children are one of the example of addiction of mobile phone especially inside the classroom
while the teacher is discussing the lesson, but a closer look will show that mobile device can
help improve their daily lesson and much easiest way to deliver the discussion through
mobile phones even outside or inside school like Assignments, reviewing the topic of the
day, and other related activities. We are analyzing and comparing manual and technological
situation improve and how this will affect the School especially to the instructor by
providing this application for their respective students.

General Problem
 The teachers are using a manual style in discussing their lessons and making their
quizzes in this method, the questionnaire is risky. It might be lost and they don’t have
appropriate backup database for the records.

Specific Problem
 Storing lesson in a way of manual process
 Storing Quiz in a way of manual process
 Discussing practically
 Computing grade manually

3

5
Project Description

Classtech mobile application is a mobile online based app.

It’s a form of mind sport in which the students attempts to read the lesson and to answer
questions correctly which is uploaded by the teacher. It is an application that can test your
knowledge about a certain subject, also a brief assessment used in education and similar fields to
measure growth in knowledge, abilities, and/or skills.

The teacher will upload lessons and quizzes in this application and if the student registers in this
app the teacher will give a code and the student will register and can probably open it.

Classtech mobile app is certainly possible with our learning management system. You can
motivate your pupils to learn things from their mobile devices. Ask questions and make your
pupils answer them by a quiz during a lecture. It makes your lecture more sparkly!

Offering ClassTech material

This is the easiest way of mobile learning. You can offerpdf, videos or audios via link.
It’s possible to do this whenever you want. Participants are able to prepare by reading or
watching a video that the teacher has put online. This way of mobile learning is relatively less
interactive. It’s more about individual consuming. There is no interaction with teachers or other
students, which makes it an asynchronous way of learning.

6
Interaction during lessons

If you want to have some more interaction, you can use mobile devices during your lessons. An
example of this is during your instruction. Teachers will upload lessons and quiz and the student will
answer them on their mobile devices with a time limit. Teachers are able to get immediate feedback. This
is especially easy for teaching large groups.

Advantages of Classtech application

Multiple-choice questions

Advantages

 Quick and easy to score, by hand or electronically

 Can be written so that they test a wide range of higher-order thinking skills

 Can cover lots of content areas on a single exam and still be answered in a class period

Disadvantages

 Often test literacy skills: “if the student reads the question carefully, the answer is easy to
recognize even if the student knows little about the subject”

 Provide unprepared students the opportunity to guess, and with guesses that are right, they get
credit for things they don’t know
 Expose students to misinformation that can influence subsequent thinking about the content
 Take time and skill to construct (especially good questions)

7
Distraction

Mobile devices can be a great distraction for participants. Children like learning on
tablets, but gaming on tablets seems to be even more fun! As a teacher you are not always able to
control what your pupils are doing on their tablets.

Not enough electricity for all mobile devices

There have to be enough sockets for all those mobile devices, and not even spoken about all the
cables. This may be a problem in the first couple of years. In the future, there will probably be a
solution for this problem.

8
PROJECT ASSUMPTIONS

Assumptions
The expected life of this mobile application is 5 years if properly maintained. This mobile
application is expected to produce reliable reports. This mobile application is expected to give
the client efficient time management for the students.

9
Project Objectives

The following objectives:

1. To develop a module that will store all the data and information of the teacher and
students.
It is easier to searchall data that are stored in the database and it has more
accuracy when tracking the records.
2. A module that will produce reports
All reports will be seen in database whether daily, weekly, monthly, yearly
reports.
3. To develop a module that will upload lesson for the students
It is convenient for the students to know their respective topics.
4. To develop a module that will create quizzes.
It helps the teacher to manage the quizzes
5. To develop a module that can calculate the quiz score of the student
The application will automatically generate the score after they took up
the quiz.

10
DEFINITIONS OF TERMS

PROGRAM LANGUAGE

JAVA SCRIPT

The Java programming language requires the presence of a software platform in

order for compiled programs to be executed. Oracle supplies the Java platform for use
with Java. The Android SDK is an alternative software platform, used primarily for
developing Android applications with its own GUI system.

SQL SERVER

Is a relational database management system developed by Microsoft. As a

database server, it is a software product with the primary function of storing and
retrieving data as requested by other software applications—which may run either on the
same computer or on another computer across a network.

UML (Unified Modeling Language)

Unified Modeling language (UML) is a standardized modeling language enabling

developers to specify, visualize, construct and document artifacts of a software system.
Thus, UML makes these artifacts scalable, secure and robust in execution. UML is an
important aspect involved in object-oriented software development. It uses graphic
notation to create visual models of software systems.

11
MOBILE APPLICATION

A mobile application, most commonly referred to as an app, is a type of

application software designed to run on a mobile device, such as a smartphone or tablet
computer. Mobile applications frequently serve to provide users with similar services to
those accessed on PCs. Apps are generally small, individual software units with limited
function. This use of app software was originally popularized by Apple Inc. and its App
Store, which offers thousands of applications for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.
It is also a software application developed specifically for use on small, wireless
computing devices, such as smartphones and tablets, rather than desktop or laptop
computers.
A mobile application also may be known as an app, web app, online app, iPhone app or
smartphone app.

XML (Extensible Markup Language)

A metalanguage which allows users to define their own customized markup

languages, especially in order to display documents on the Internet.

PHP (Personal Home Page)

Originally stood for Personal Home Page, but it now stands for the recursive
acronym PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor. PHP code may be embedded into HTML code, or
it can be used in combination with various web template systems, web content
management systems, and web frameworks.

12
DATA
DICTIONARY

a set of information describing the contents, format, and structure of a database

and the relationship between its elements, used to control access to and manipulation of the
database.
A data dictionary, or metadata repository, as defined in the IBM Dictionary of Computing, is a
"centralized repository of information about data such as meaning, relationships to other data,
origin, usage, and format". Oracle defines it as a collection of tables with metadata. The term can
have one of several closely related meanings pertaining to databasesand database management
systems (DBMS)

13
CHAPTER 2

Review of Related Literature

Review of Related Literature

The stated are not really related to the study but it has similar approaches from the
proposed study that is the reason why the researches have taken consideration like methods that
used in findings solutions to the problem. Utilizing technology resource is a great strategy to
expand learning and these have led to a rise in the standard living people. The influence of
internet from generation is probably big.

Higher education is changing. Most if not all students now have access to
learning materials via the Internet (Brown, 2006). Students expect and need different things
from their instructors. They need to be guided through their learning process. They expect
the instructor to teach them how to build their knowledge and comprehension of the given
subject (Shea, Pickett &Pelz, 2003; Clark, Kirschner&Sweller, 2012). Furthermore, they
expect them to use technology to do this. Instructors must meet this challenge and integrate
technology into their courses, effectively facilitating the students' learning process. The
instructors must therefore be confident that the investment is worthwhile – that the effective
use of new tools leads to better outcomes, in both students' attitudes and in their
professional understanding.

According to Trow (1999), studies are needed to assist teaching staffs in high schools,
colleges and universities to recognize the possibilities of using technology as an effecti ve
tool in the teaching process and to enhance the positive outcomes that it may bring about.
The present study falls into this category. We studied the implementation of Moodle quizzes
in a physics college course for life science students.

14
The focus was on assessing the role of the online quizzes in the learning environment in a
blended learning model. Our investigation included three stages. We first examined the role
of computerized assessment through online quizzes in the academic course evaluation
process. In this stage, we investigated whether the online quizzes and the written tests used
during the course predicted the students' scores on the final written exam. In the second
stage, we focused on the students' behaviors and performance during the online quiz. In
particular, we tried to understand whether many attempts on an online quiz served any
benefit for the students. We examined possible correlations between the number of attempts
and student outcomes. We believe that the quiz design, which combines a randomization
factor and many allowed attempts, offers an opportunity for students to take responsibility
for their own learning. The immediate feedback encourages the students to reflect on their
understanding, to implement whatever methods are needed to gain more understanding, and
to make another attempt to ascertain whether they have actually improved their
knowledge. The last stage included the investigation of student attitudes towards the online
quizzes. Another possible benefit we studied focused on the use of symbol manipulation
when solving problems on a quiz, which encourages the students to focus on problem -
solving strategies rather than finding a final numeric answer.

CHAPTER 3

METHODOLOGIES

Planning Phase

Analysis Phase

Design Phase

Implementation Phase

Maintenance Phase

16
PLANNING

Some of the clients today is still use in manual lesson and quizzes to each record. In order
to be more sociable and well-organized application, the proponents plan something that can be
easy, reliable and useful application to the client that can secure all the records. Each record
should be organized and well managed to avoid redundancy. The proponents will make sure that
it will generates the exact process and enhance the new generation process of the application.

17
ANALYSIS

The groups gather information from observing the teacher that use manual lesson and
quizzes records. The researchers decided if the project should go ahead with the resources
available and consider the feasibility of the application, and how this project leads to improve
their performance. The researchers also review all the possible course of action that might help to
solve the said problem of the application and aim to answer all probable question may arise. Part
of design phase was the use of the uml that served as schematic representative of the program
design. This was an important part of the development process since the process were visually
presented for easy way.

18
DESIGN PHASE

In this phase, the groups gather information with design that is more readable and
efficient for the eyes of the user’s. The groups used few types of designer tools in order to
construct each field of the applications.

19
IMPLEMENTATION PHASE

ClassTech mobile app is an application that can help the teacher to make her/his task
more accessible, doesn’t take time in checking the said quiz and already calculated on their
individual scores. In the area of student they will be loosening of time consume, fasten their
quiz/activity in just a minute/hour. The advantages of the proposed application are to easily
monitor student’s record, create code in each section, add pdf link for videos and images of its
lesson. So, the teacher will no longer usethe paper and pen method in their quiz this record will
probably saved in excel. If there is student who hasn’t yet taken the quiz, he/she can approach
immediately the instructor in charge so that they can take up the quiz.

20
MAINTENANCE PHASE

With the implementation of the system, it needs maintenance to organize/secure data

properly and in order to update application. Ready for revision and unexpected errors or
problems while using the app. The application must be improved when there will be suggestion
from others.
