ADMISSION NOTIFICATION FOR THE INTERNET PURPOSE

The University is offering M.L. degree course in the following branches under
private study (Non-semester) for the academic year 2017-2018 through English
Medium only in the Department of Legal Studies.

Br-I - International Law and Constitutional Law


Br-III - Criminal Law
Br-V - Intellectual Property Law
Br-VI - Human Rights and Environmental Law
Br-VII - Labour and Administrative Law

ELIBILITY : A candidate who has passed in 3 year B.L/L.L.B., or 5 year B.L /


L.L.B. from a Recognized University under regular pattern of
study i.e (10+2+3+3) or (11+1+3+3) or (10+2+5).

Eligibility for award of Degree : A candidate should complete the degree


within five years from the academic year in which he/ she registers for the course.
The candidate should attend the compulsory ten days personal contact programme
classes for every year . Only then he/she will be eligible for the I & II year
examination respectively.
ISSUE OF APPLICATION IN PERSON : Applications can be had in person at the
“Application Sales Counter” at the Chepauk Campus of the University on payment of cash
Rs.200/- (Rs.100 for SC/ST candidates on production of attested photo copy of the community

ISSUE OF APPLICATION BY POST : Those who want to obtain application by post have
to send a written requisition specifying the name of the programme together with a Demand
Draft for a sum of Rs.250/- (Rs.200/- towards cost of Application and Rs.50/- towards postage)
drawn in favour of “The Registrar, University of Madras, Chennai -600 005”

Application can also be downloaded from the University website at www.unom.ac.in


However, the cost of application for Rs.200/- by means of Demand Draft shall be enclosed,
failing which the application will be summarily rejected.

INSTRUCTION TO CANDIDATES
The University is offering M.L. degree course in the following branches under private
study (Non-semester) for the academic year 2017-2018 through English Medium only in the

Personal Contact Programme :
Compulsory P.C.P. Classes will be conducted every year for a period of 10 days only at Chennai.

Rules and Regulations Relating to Admission/ Registration:


A candidate who has failed to register for the First year M.L. Degree Examination after the
provisional registration may be permitted to seek re-registration only in the following Academic
year by paying re-registration fee of Rs.2,000/- or as prescribed from time to time.

A first year M.L. Private Study candidate who wishes to change the Branch after
registration and before the commencement of First year Compulsory PCP Classes may be
permitted to change the Branch on the payment of Rs.500/- or as prescribed from time to time.

Examinations :
Candidates whose registration have been approved shall apply for the M.L. degree
examination in the prescribed form together with the prescribed examination fee and be eligible
to appear in the immediately following June examination for the first year papers and after a
lapse of one year for the second year papers. Supplementary Examination will be conducted in
the month of December.

A candidate has to complete his M.L. Degree Private Study within 5 Academic years
from the year of joining. Students who could not complete their degree within the stipulated
time and has only 3 arrear papers including Dissertation may be permitted as a Special Case to
complete the M.L. Degree with a payment of Rs.10,000/- or as prescribed from time to time as a
Penal Fee. Such candidates should appear immediately after the expiry of Maximum 5 years and
they may be given permission for two appearances (June and December) in the following
Academic year.
Dissertation and Viva = 200 marks (Dissertation :150 marks, viva :50 marks)

Viva will be conducted only in the Department of Legal Studies, University of Madras,
Chennai.

Eligibility to appear for Examination : Only if a candidate attends the Compulsory P.C.P
he /she is eligible to appear for the Examination.

Submission of filled in application :

Candidates desiring to register for M.L. Degree under private study shall register on
or before 31.10.2017 in the prescribed form together with the prescribed fee of Rs.15,000/-
(Note: In case of candidates who have qualified for B.L./L.L.B., degree from other than
University of Madras should pay a Recognition fee of Rs.250/- and Matricula fee of Rs.50/- as
the case may be in addition to the above fees) in the form of Demand Draft, drawn in favour the
REGISTRAR, University of Madras along with photo copies of (attested X,XII or its equivalent
and U.G. Marks sheets/ certificates and also Original and photo copies of marks sheets/
certificates of B.L. /L.L.B., degree. Candidates are directed to pay Rs.1000/- towards dissertation
fee, in addition to the Examination fee.
