Chemical engineering is concerned with the production of substances on a technical scale. The chemical
engineer uses scientific and mathematical knowledge to achieve economic, safe and environmentally friendly
procedures. In particular the introduction of the sustainability idea into the training of the students should enable
the development of sustainable problem solutions along the entire life cycle of a product, for example by new
catalytic processes in chemical production, by energy and raw material saving in chemical processes, by
energetic and raw material use of biomass, Which is not in competition with food production, through the use of
CO2 or through research and development work on new energy sources.

The possible fields of employment of the graduates are very diverse; Typical fields of activity are the
sustainable process development, process analysis as well as the optimization, planning and construction of new
plants. Job opportunities are in the fields of research and development, plant design and operation in the
chemical industry, in engineering companies in the planning and construction of chemical, refinery and other
industrial plants as well as in authorities.

Education

In the bachelor's program Chemical Engineering - Sustainable Chemical Technologies, the department-specific
training with selected elements from the area of chemical process engineering takes place after basic training in
the disciplines of mathematics, physics, chemistry, electrical engineering and materials science. In addition, an
early focus will be placed on measurement technology and sustainable chemical technologies.

The program is divided into four phases:

In the first study phase, the basic subjects of chemistry and the corresponding mathematical fundamentals of
science are taught.
In the second phase, the professional qualifications Basic knowledge is mediated by the subjects Chemical
Engineering, Industrial and Applied Chemistry, Technical English and management and communication
techniques. These compartments provide the necessary know-how to the later professional life can exist.

The third study phase consists of an elective area where students can deepen their knowledge either in the
research fields of chemical engineering, textile chemistry or paint technology. The elective subjects are closely
related to those of Chemical Engineering and Industrial Chemistry, so that even an interdisciplinary
consideration of what has been learned has to be at this point.

As part of the fourth phase of the study the necessary methodology for solving chemical and
vehrfahrenstechnischer issues will first be tested in a phase of the project of the 6th semester and applied during
the preparation of the Bachelor thesis.

In dualen Studium absolvieren die Studierenden eine Ausbildung parallel zu ihrem Studium.

Das Grundstudium (1. bis 4. Semester) ist gekennzeichnet durch duale Phasen: Studium (2 Tage/Woche) und
betrieblicher Ausbildung (3 Tage/Woche). Die Phase dient der praktischen Ausbildung im Betrieb und einer
chemischen Ausbildung an der Hochschule.

Im Hauptstudium (5. und 6. Semester) befinden sich die Studierenden 5 Tage/Woche an der Hochschule (ggf.
auch parallele Betriebsassistentenzeit mit zwei Tagen pro Woche im Betrieb). Die Präsenzphase dient der
Ausbildung in Ingenieurfächern, Betriebswirtschaft und Soft Skills.

Im 6. und 7. Semesterkönnen die Studierenden aus dem Wahlpfichtbereich Vertiefungsfächer wählen. Während
der fachlichen Vertiefung befinden sich die Studierenden 5 Tage/Woche an der Hochschule. Eine fachliche
Vertiefung gibt es in den Bereichen:

 Technische Chemie

 Textilchemie

 Lacktechnik

Die Projektarbeit und besonders auch die Bachelor-Arbeit (8. Semester) kann im Ausbildungsbetrieb
durchgeführt werden.
