Students will explore and develop their own responses to the following essential questions as they relate to ​Lord of the Flies:
What does it mean to survive? What does it mean to be civilized? What makes up a society? Does this book reflect a certain
time period, and if so, how? What implications does this literature have for humanity?

Unit Summary:
In this unit, you will be learning about the elements that make up prose. We will be learning about those elements and devices

in a variety of ways, including through reading and discussing the novel ​Lord of the Flies. Throughout the unit, you will be
expected to show comprehension of key concepts by creating flashcards, completing worksheets, reading quizzes, and
quick-writes, participating in class discussions, and collaborating with classmates for group presentations. Lessons will include
Lecture on Literary Elements, Two-Part Character Collage iPad Lesson, and a Double Journal Entry Graphic Organizer. After

thorough reading, discussion, and activities related to ​Lord of the Flies, you will practice writing skills via the final exam, which
consists an essay response.
