Q1. Which theories of motivational will explain the plot of movies 3 idiots and Dangal?

Ans:-

3 idiots:-

Theories of motivation for the movie 3idiots are:

 Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs:-

This theory is well explain by the movie as by the character (Aamir khan) where he always believes in the
top set of Maslow Hierarchy of needs that is the concept of self actualization.

Further more , The theories is also explain by the character (Raju) where he shows the behavior for the
under lining sets of Maslow’s theory which are Physiological and safety and security which he experience
by saying that he wants to improve the condition his family.

 Goal Setting theory:-

The theory’s explanation by the character (Aamir khan) who believes in the achievement of his self goal
and continuously works for them.

 Reinforcement theory:-

This theory is well explained by the character (Boman Irani) were he provides negative reinforcement to
(Ali Fazal) and the positive reinforcement is provided by (Aamir Khan) to his friends when he says “ALL IS
WELL”.

DANGAL:

Theories of motivation for the movie Dangal are:-

 Goal Setting Theoy:-

The Goal Setting Theory is well described by the character that Is the daughter of Aamir Khan Geta
Phoghat (Fatima Sana Sheikh) and Babita Phoghat which is however reformed and framed by their
father (Aamir Khan) as depicted in the movie.

 Reinforcement Theory:-

This theory is explained by the movie were (Aamir Khan) direct his daughter to use definite moves in the
battle of boxing to achieve success which act as the motivation in the term of reinforcement to the girl.

 Mc Celland’s Acquired Theory:-

This theory is well explained by in the terms for the need of achievement and affiliation as depicted by
the girl to achieve medal in the boxing championship.
Q2:- Critically analyse the application and suitability of each theory in career development?

Ans:-

 Maslow’s need hierarchy theory:-

This theory helps in career development as the various stages to reach the higher goals in one’s career
which eventually starts from the basic physical stage which is depicted in the movie 3idiots where students
start from the basic physical needs to increase the motivation in them and some of them reach the higher
goal for their individual motivational like (Aamir Khan).

 Alderfer’s ERG Theory:-

This theory invariably motivates the career path of an individual where it shows need propagation when
an individual follows the stage right from existence till growth, while there is need regration if
motivation starts from growth need till existence need.

For example:- Raju in the movie 3idiots starts motivating himself from the very existence and reachs up
till growth needs which he proves when he finally gets placement in a reputed company. This change in
his character, leads him to become a successful person.

Q3:- Explain potential drawbacks of each theory with suitable example?

Ans:-

 Alderfer’s ERG Theory:-

This Theory does not include acquired expects which an individual acquires from the place of his origin or
the family or the surroundings he or she is surrounded by which is a limitation to the theory.

The limitation of this theory is also that the emotion and cognation do not directly explain the need
progression and need regression as inverse might happen such in the case of people who surpass the
existence and relatedness needs and directly achieved growth needs.

Example:

The needs of the people in a particular company are different and the relation in the needs is different for
different category of people which hinders the motivation needed for the managers to establish within
the organization.

 Herzberg’s Theory:-

The theory says when the hygiene factors of a person or an individual are satisfied only when the
individual might get motivated which does not happen in the real world scenario as in case like employees
in the company might or might not get motivated by a certain hygiene factors which also is a limitation.
The disadvantage of this theory is also that the factors which can motivated a person might change with
the age or doing the life time of a person which is against as said by theory.

 Reinforcement theory:-

According to this theory negative reinforcement is mostly avoided as it is believed that the theory might
have a negative influence on the person the theory is delivered to the person might act as a positive
reinforcement or motivation for the individual.

For example the case of a person who is given negative reinforcement can use the same to achieve success
and act as a positive reinforcement for the individual.

Q4:-Which theory of motivation will be more suitable in explaining your own approach towards self-
career development?

Ans:- Goal setting theory :-This theory explains from my view point of self career development as the
theory explain setting goals and working to achieved those goals like (Aamir Khan) in the movie said goals
for himself and achieved than by finally opening and institution related to technology in Ladakh.

Similarly,

In the movie Dangal goals are set for the girl by their father (Aamir Khan) who continuously trades them
in a very unfamiliar manner as against the norms of the society,]of treating the girl he infuses the goals of
achieving success in the career development of the girls and which is depicted by the feet of wining the
champion ship…
