The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages provides a common basis for describing language learning, teaching and assessment across Europe. It describes language proficiency at six levels from basic to advanced, and outlines what language learners should be able to do at each level in listening, reading, speaking and writing. The Framework aims to overcome differences between qualifications systems and to promote mutual understanding between educational institutions and employers across Europe.
