Abstract: Less than 5% of the plastic in the world is recycled. The other 96% end up in landfills, as a litter, or in the oceans. Plastic materials
last between 400 and 1000 years to degrade. This impact of the plastic in the environment has caused a growing of sustainable alternatives,
promoting the investigation and development of new materials friendly with the environment. This project consists of the production of
biodegradable plastic from potato starch, glycerin as a plasticizer, modified clays to increase the bioplastic raincoat and garlic as an
antimicrobial agent; the developed product is a plastic, which will have the function of coating fruits in order to preserve them for a longer
time. Being able to demonstrate the potential of potato starch in the development of biodegradable plastics that can be used as a wrapper to
preserve food for longer.
Keywords: potato starch, glycerin, biodegradable plastic, modified clay, garlic, temperature.
