Recensie The Lion King

Ik ben in het Lyceum Theatre in Londen geweest om daar the lion King te zien. Hieronder staan 2
positieve en 2 negatieve recensies, de positieve hebben 5 sterren en de negatieve maar 1 gegeven.
Bij elke ga ik aangeven of ik het er wel of niet mee eens ben. Daarna schrijf ik mijn eigen recensie.
Recensie 1 (positief):

Great costumes and set

Went to matinee as a group of 4 adults and sat in Grand Circle which gave a very good view and seats
were comfortable although it did get a bit hot at times. The staging and costumes were fantastic and the
opening scene was my favourite. Had not realised it would be quite so 'pantomime like' in the first act and
had expected more big choruses. Having said that, it was lovely to look at and competently executed but
thought it lacked emotion. The kids around us seemed to love it.
Ik ben het hiermee eens. Het was inderdaad best krap en heet, maar dat kwam voornamelijk omdat
we in zo’n mooi en oud theater zaten. Inhoudelijk vind ik wel dat er best liedjes waren, deze man
kennelijk niet. The kostuums waren echt fenomenaal. Die waren echt fascinerend echt.
Recensie 2 (negatief):

Nothing like th e movie

They took the movie and tried to cearte a musical out of it. Nothing creational, nothing original. Poor
imitation. It is intended for kids aged composed of one digit number. Don't get close if you're older than 9.
The singers and dancers are doing a great job of a very badly done show. Three or four hit songs can not
hold a whole musical, and they are nothing like the original. I gave it one star out of 5 because which is
dedicated to the orchestra which was outstanding.
Ik vond de musical ook anders dan de film, maar probeer maar eens op een kleine vloer een
impressie te geven van tientallen leeuwen of zebra’s. ik vind echter wel dat de film voor kleine
kinderen is, maar dat deze musical voor iedereen is. Dit komt misschien wel doordat ik klein was toen
de film uitkwam.
Recensie 3 (positief):
Show for one and all
A big Disney family, we were excited to get special box seats to the right of the stage and wow what a view,
kind of? Don’t recommend this though.

The show was spectacular with never before heard songs as well as those familiar with the movie. Our sons
were drawn in not only by the music and costumes, but the set was really stunning as well.

The audience was fully engaged and sang along with the familiar songs and laughter was had in multitude
by everyone throughout the show. Each performer was spot on and play their parts well.

Don’t miss out! Make your reservations, middle center if you can, and be ready to sing and laugh.
Hoewel ik niet meezong en ook niet gepassioneerd ben over disney, is deze recensie spot-on.
Anderen zongen mee en moesten huilen van het lachen. Wederom waren de set en de kostuums
echt mooi. De spelers waren inderdaad erg goed, maar het was wel raar om mensen zich te zien
gedragen als hyena’s.
Recensie 4 (negatief):
A fairly bad panto
After all the years of hype, I finally went to see it. Have to agree with most of the reviews about badly
behaved audiences (surprising when they have paid so much), however they were probably bored so that's
why they spent so long chatting. The show itself lacks any sort of humanity whatsoever. Presumably it is
Disney still trying to apologise for Song of The South. Poor music, poor performers, poor choreography,
terrible humour...made for tourists. I suppose if English isn't your first language it's a safe bet. Over zealous
security staff at the theatre, verging on rude (Note to ATG..it's a theatre, not a nightclub). Don't waste your
money, plenty of more entertaining musicals in the west end for much cheaper prices. Even the performers
looked bored stupid. If it hadn't been for someone else's birthday I'd have left at half time. You just get the
feeling that the show will always sell out so why should they bother to make it even vaguely entertaining,
Bizarrely I really was looking forward to it...although the film wasn't that good either, so I guess I should
have worked it out.
Deze man is duidelijk niet tevreden, zijn recensie vind ik zelfs grappig. Hij zegt dat de musical
menselijkheid mist. Dit lijkt me logisch aangezien er alleen maar dieren in voorkomen. De spelers
waren erg goed en de choreografie was apart. Maar ja, het moest het huppelen en stormen van
dieren weergeven. Het personeel was juist erg behulpzaam en hielp ons onze plek te vinden.

Mijn eigen recensie:

De straat waarin het theater staat is fantastisch mooi, net zoals het theater zelf. De zaal was erg
mooi, een typische oude, victoriaanse toneelzaal. Met balkonnetjes aan de zijkant, rode zitstoeltjes
achteraan en een iets legere plek onderaan. Het verhaal was het zelfde als in de film, maar de manier
waarop het werd verteld en weergegeven waren compleet anders. De vloer had een ingebouwde
spiraal, die steeds hoger kon worden, maar wel afkrulde, dit moest een rots weergeven. Dit vond ik
heel knap,net zoals een net/kleed zo vasthouden dat er opeens een ‘olifant’ op het toneel stond. Als
niet musical liefhebber vond ik deze musical wel leuk. 4 van de 5 sterren voor mij.
