The audiolingual method

The audio-lingual method is a style of teaching foreign languages. It is based on behaviorist


theory, which postulates that certain traits of living things, and in this case humans, could be
trained through a system of reinforcement. The correct use of a trait would receive positive
feedback while incorrect use of that trait would receive negative feedback.

the characteristics of the audiolingual method are

1. New material is presented in dialogue form


2. There is dependence on mimiery, memorization of set pharases, and over learning
3. Structures are sequenced by means of contrastive analysis and taught one at a time
4. Structural patterns are taught using repetitive drills
5. There is little or no grammatical explanation. Grammar is taught by inductive analogy
rather than by deductive explanation
6. Vocabulary is strictly limited and learned in context
7. There is much use of tapes, language labs and visual aids
8. Great importance is attached to pronounciation
9. Very little use of the mother tongue by teachers is permitted
10. Successful responses are immediately reinforced
11. There is a great effort to get students to produce error free utterances
12. There is tendency to manipulate language and disregard content

Teknik

Repetition Drill is the student repeats an utterance as soon as he or she hears it.

when i read alphabet, she is really excited to follow me. We study as long as 1.5 hours.

In the end of studying. I show that alphabet video to her and she is more excited than before.

In a next meeting, i asked her to say alphabet and she doesn’t know. She forgets. First, i’ll
think it is usual to her, so i give alphabet song and we sing together. Same with before i play
alphabet video.

When i saw her while she was watching the video, she is intresting but she just looked the
cartoon in the video not focus in content

In a next meeting, still with the same problem. She forgets alphabet but she knows the song
although just little

Same, it takes much time to memorize it

The problem

She knows when i teach her at the time but the problem is to easy forget.

Sometimes, she gets bored and want to go home early, so i’ll give her comeback early
She still doesn’t know read the teks. So, sometimes i teach her reading and writing also

Teach her math.

She is smart but her parents doesn’t care about her. They allow her to play with her friends all
the time

She is not difficult in languange but she is easly to forget our material
