1.0 COURSE OUTCOMES

At the end of the course the students should be able to:

1. Understand the basic concepts of human resource management

2. Demonstrate an understanding of the roles played by human resource


specialists in the success of the organization

3. Understand the roles of line managers in managing human resources

2.0 COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course examines the role of the human resource professional as a strategic
partner in managing today’s organizations. Key functions such as recruitment,
selection, development, appraisal, retention, compensation, and labor relations are
examined. Implications of legal and global environments are appraised and current
issues such as managing across generations, employee discipline, downsizing, and
rising benefit costs are analyzed. Best practices of employers of choice are
considered.
