Abrazo Arrowhead Cam-
pus staff and Northwest
Valley community mem-
bers donated more than a
half-ton of healthy cereal
during the hospital’s an-
nual Healthy Over Hun-
gry Cereal Drive.
More than 1,000 pounds
of cereal along with nearly
$2,000 in monetary dona-
tions equaling an estimat-
ed 17,000 servings of cere-
al, were donated at Abrazo
Arrowhead Campus, 18701
N. 67th Ave., Glendale, and
Abrazo Peoria Emergen-
cy Center, 26900 N. Lake
Pleasant Pkwy., during the
June drive benefiting St.

Summer is a particularly
difficult time because many
children in need can no lon-
ger rely on school meals for
a nutritious breakfast, an
Abrazo spokesperson ex-
plained. Whole-grain ce-
real, as part of a balanced
breakfast, helps address
the hunger gap during
summer months when chil-
dren are not in school.
“Hunger doesn’t take a
vacation during summer
months when children are
home from school,” Abrazo
Arrowhead Campus CEO
Jeff Patterson stated. “Our
annual cereal drive recog-
nizes the importance of be-
ginning each day with a nu-
tritious breakfast.”
Lack of consistent access
to adequate food is a prob-
lem that 2 million Arizo-
nans are faced with every
year. One in three children
in Arizona lives in pover-
ty, and Arizona ranks 47th

out of 50 states in the num-
ber of children who may
not know where their next
meal is coming from, ac-
cording to St. Mary’s Food
Bank.
“Abrazo Community
Health Network is proud
to lead this community ef-
fort to provide families in
need with a healthy break-
fast this summer,” Mr. Pat-
terson said. “We are also
grateful for the communi-
ty members that donated
healthy cereal in the drop
off boxes at our hospitals.”
Abrazo Community
Health Network’s parent
company Tenet Healthcare
matches all monetary do-
nations up to $100,000
during the annual cereal
drive.
The Arrowhead Campus
will host a tour of its Moth-
er & Newborn Care Cen-
ter at 6 p.m. Wednesday,
July 11.
