1. General Description
ROOT mainly produce wet grinding equipment like lab horizontal bead mill, disc type
horizontal bead mill, pin type horizontal bead mill, high viscosity horizontal bead mill and other
corollary products (filtering cart, zirconia beads)etc.
1.3 Explanation
All the diagrammatic presentations are just the examples and it may be different with the
equipment you purchase, please take material object as the standard.

2. Attentions
Please carefully read and ensure to observe all the contents before using the equipment.
Please turn off the main switch and keep all the warning sings hung when doing maintaining,
watching and checking.
When repair work is taking, it should be strictly assured that the motor cannot start if any
button in the buttons box has been wrongly pressed.
Please do not replace or change the wiring in the control and button box.
Please do not touch any moving part in operation.

Keep a suitable degree of tightness for the belt and if it is too loose, it may explode because
of super-heat.
Keep suitable lubricating oil level. Non-cooled mechanical seal will cause super-heat and
explosion.
Please do not start the bead mill if there is no cooling water and please do not start the
main motor if there is no grinding material in the grinding chamber. Idling and the air in the
grinding chamber may damage the main parts of the equipment.
Keep clean for the equipment and periodically dump out the dust in the equipment surface,
motor and electric elements to avoid dust explosion.
Periodically check and test grounding device. The good grounding device will avoid accidents
caused by electric leakage, static electricity.
Please pay attention to the fire during the operation and maintaining of the equipment.
The lubricating oil containing lead can not be used in food processing industry. And only the
lubricating oil according with hygiene standards can be used.
3. Scope of application
Horizontal bead mill are suitable for coating material, ink, petrochemical industry, mining
industry, Bio engineering pharmaceutical, cosmetics, food, Electronic chemicals. With the
principle of complete grinding, horizontal bead mill is designed for fine grinding of higher
viscosity ink or coating materials and it specially can be used for the accurate grinding and mixing
for the large batch bidirectional suspension.

6. Installation
6.1Installation condition:
a. Equipment arrangement:
The equipment should be placed onto plat ground. Normally the machine don’t need to be
fixed to the ground. It will be better if the equipment could be placed and installed onto a
concrete based ground. Leave enough space for operator. See as figure 1 ( The figure is for
reference only! User should decide how to place the mill according to working area condition.)

6.2 Hoisting
User could use a front-loader or use the hoisting ring on machine body.
After equipment is placed, connect the electrical parts. Connect the wires according to
electrical diagram. After installation, test the pulley rotation direction and make sure the
direction same with the arrow direction. See as appendix for electrical diagram.

7. Auxiliary system
RTSM-AD lab sand mill has adopted double cooling system design. It has cooling point at
outer chamber jacket and , which could immediately transport away the heat generated during
working. Cooling water consumption will be varied with the water temperature, product fineness
requirement, material viscosity, material hardness and grinding beads charging quantity etc. For
0.5L lab sand mill, the cooling water in/outlet are DN15 and normal water consumption is 0.6m³
/h. A 3HP(around 9KW) chiller will be sufficient for providing the required cooling water.
It uses compressed air to enhance the mechanical sealing back pressure in order to improve
the stability and good performance of pneumatic diaphragm pump. Connect the pressure
adjusting valve with a 8mm air in pipe. Add a control valve on the air in pipe.
The user should prepare the cable needed for connecting to the mill control cabinet. The
cable area should be qualified. Control cabinet and local switch box are manufactured in factory
already. Main motor rotation direction should be according to the mark.
Note: It is recommended to use the copper core cable, 3*4mm2+1*2.5mm2

Dynamic separator is a core part in the mill. Its main function is to separate material and
grinding media. The separator gap will directly affect the discharging quantity and separating
effect. In order to prolong the separator service life, the separator is made of hard alloy.

8.1 Preparation
8.1.1
adding mechanical seal cooling liquid: add deionized water with glycerin(1:0.4) or deionized
water with glycol (1:0.3) to 4/5 level of the cooling tank. The cooling liquid should be add via “5
cooling liquid inlet”. Inspect the liquid level via “ 4 liquid level monitor”.
8.1.2
Connect to power, push “pump start” and magnetic pump will start and recycle the
mechanical seal cooling liquid.

8.1.3
Adjust air-in pressure: adjust oil-water separator ( see as figure 3) switch button, set the
air-in pressure to 4 bar;

Grinding media charging: take off the part indicated in the red frame; put a funnel in the
pipe part and start to adding the grinding media.
8.1.6
Cooling water inlet and outlet are 12mm tubing connectors; It is suggested to use 12x8mm
soft pipe to connect to cooling water inlet and outlet shown in below figure. Water-in flow is
0.6m³/h, water pressure around 1.5bar.
8.1.10

8.2 Start
8.2.1
Connect to power source, air source, and cooling
water source; If there is abnormality of the electric, power
off and check; For example, if there is no pressure on the
oil-water separator, check air source or check whether
oil-water separator still works. Press “ Pump start”, and
the magnetic pump will start to work.
8.2.2
If the machine isn’t loaded with material or water, press“pump start”and after material or
water come into grinding chamber or after the“ flow adjust valve”is adjusted and the material
is normally transported for 3-5s, click“main machine start“ and adjust the speed knob to adjust
speed to 2400-2850rpm
8.2.3
During grinding, after all data are stable, take down pressure value, temperature value,
current value, rotation speed value and grinding beads charging quantity etc in order to keep a
record of the current grinding process and also offer reference for future grinding process
changing.
8.2.4
After grinding, adjust the speed knob on control box to
gradually slow down the mill speed, and at same time adjust
“ flow adjust valve ” to lower the material feeding speed;
When it indicates 0 rpm on panel, press “ Main machine
stop”, secondly close the“ flow adjust valve”and finally click
“ Pump stop”

8.2.4
Mill cleaning: Mill cleaning process is similar with grinding process. However, the rotation
speed for cleaning shouldn’t be too high; Please keep the speed under 1500rpm when cleaning.
8.2.5
After cleaning, cut off the power source, air source and water source.
8.2.6
Clean the mill surface and operation site.

9. Grinding Media
It is suggested to use 95% zirconia beads as grinding media. The media size and charging
quantity should be according to technical parameter and actual working efficiency. For 1.0L lab
bead mill, the smallest grinding media it could use is 0.4mm and the beads charging quantity is
normally 1.0-1.2KG. It is suggested to charge 1.2KG at the first time. (usually, the beads will ready
charged in factory)
Cautions:
(1) During mill operation, the grinding media will get abrasion; When material quality becomes
lower or main machine operating current becomes lower, the grinding media may get worn and
abrasion.Therefore, user must take out the beads for checking.(user will receive a beads sieve,
used for sieving out the worn or unqualified beads). Sieve out the worn beads and recharge the
new beads
(2) When the recharged beads quantity has reach 50% of the first-time charging beads quantity,
it is suggested to remove all beads and recharge all new beads. The removed beads could be
further cleaned and sieved, after sieving,the qualified beads will be continuously used for cost
saving purpose.
(3) Don’t mix-use the grinding media: grinding media manufactured by different manufacturer
shouldn’t be mix-used; grinding media with different material content shouldn’t be mix-used;
Mix-use may cause beads cracking easily and beads cracking may cause machine stuck and higher
the cost.
(4) Grinding media is consumption material, all grinding media should be sieved periodically; For
normal maintenance, it is suggested to sieve every half year.
(5) During production, if users find worn beads leaking, check the separating ring and grinding
media size.

10. Maintenance
10.1.1
In order to avoid abrasion heating caused by belt slip, periodically check the belt every
month.
10.1.2
The mechanical sealing the mill is using has higher precision and durability. It will have little
leakage under correct operation. The cooling liquid consumption quantity could be calculated
from the cooling liquid level meter. It is better to change the mechanical seal cooling liquid every
two month.
10.1.3
Grinding media needs periodically cleaned. Normally, sieve the beads every half a year.
10.1.4
Check electric device and gauges. Once there is problem, repair or change immediately.
10.1.5
After one year operation, clean and check the machine thoroughly. Check the rotor and
chamber abrasion condition. Change all lubrication oil. Check thoroughly the electrical system to
ensure the safety. Check whether gauges are still sensitive and reliable. Check whether grounding
device is still reliable.
10.1.6
Add grease periodically, it is better to add every half year; If the mill is not frequently used, it
is suggested to add grease every two or three years.
10.1.7
Periodically discharge the water and add the oil in oil-water separator. The bigger bottle
needs to discharge water periodically and the smaller bottle need to charge oil. Here, user could
charge engine oil
10.1.8
