The Techlog Wellbore Software Platform 2018.1
Release Notes Introduction

The Techlog Wellbore Software Platform delivers an industry leading desktop solution that provides petrophysicists,
geoscientists and engineers with a fully integrated, interactive, easy to use analysis tool for interpretation of all wellbore data
types (core, logs, images, photos, and so on). Using Techlog software, these different disciplines can collaborate effectively
by accessing and incorporating the same data into their workflows - thus fully capitalizing on previous data investments.
Details of improvements and additions can be found in the following pages.

Note: To run Techlog efficiently, Schlumberger recommends at least 16 GB of RAM. The total
system memory must be greater than the memory used by the application. This ensures
that your operating system has dedicated RAM and you do not have to use your page
file (disk memory). Schlumberger recommends at least 32 GB of RAM for advanced
graphical 3D display and image processing.

What's New in the 2018.1 Base Platform

What's New in the 2018.1 Base Platform

Guru
General
• Techlog Guru module is now part of the Techlog base platform. Its content is available to download
for free using the Guru content manager tool.

Techplot
Zonation
• New right-click option to insert and edit new zonation in LogView.

• New right-click option to insert and edit existing zonation in LogView.

• Ability to edit the current zonation without inserting a zonation track.

• Ability to set the zone pattern to ‘None’ from the zone-type catalog.

CRS
• The Basemap is initiated according to the first inserted well.

• Ability to change the current map CRS.

• Ability to create a spatially aware or spatially unaware map.

• Option to save the CRS as a graphical property in the basemap.

• Enhanced display performance (well projection).

• Ability to convert the map to the current basemap CRS.

Depth Shifting
• The Depth shift plugin has been onboarded in Techlog.

What's New in the 2018.1 Base Platform

Plot Performances
• The responsiveness of Logview zooming and scrolling has been improved.

• Drag an drop of variables (log insertion).

• Automatic color definition is now eight times faster compared to 13.4.

• Better performance on zonation editing and creation in LogView.

• Zone-type sorting into the catalog.

Python
Python 3.6
• Python 3.6 has been introduced in Techlog 2018.1. You can create, edit and, run scripts on a
standalone basis, directly from the Python 3 editor. An editor is available with a specific tool to
convert Python 2.7 script into Python 3.6.
• You can install any additional libraries on top of Python 3.6 using the command line
pip install. See the Techlog help for more information.
Note: Python 2.7 is still the default engine used in Techlog.
Studio
General
• Version 2018 introduces a new user workflow with Quality attributes and enhancements in user
experience, as well an improvements to the Studio database storage.
User Experience

• Quality attribute tags provide valuable information to help users track the quality, state, and
purpose of asset team data. You can now tag your data items in Techlog with Quality attributes:
Business project, Confidence factor, Data status, and Comments, just like you can in Petrel.
• You can configure the Quality attribute tags with the new App Quality Tags from Studio Manager.

• You now receive the following information when retrieving items from Studio: number of items to
be retrieved, their estimated size.

• You can now retrieve wells and their content from multiple repositories (not only a copy of the
wells).
Data Storage
• Previously, the whole content of the Techlog project was sent to a project space in Studio during
the Techlog project save. This mechanism had the consequence of filling the database very
quickly with unnecessary data. It has been improved in 2018.1. Now, values for variables are not
sent to Studio during the Techlog project save. They are now sent when you send the variables
to Studio. Also, new entities are not sent to Studio anymore.

What's New in 2018.1 modules

What's New in 2018.1 modules

Acoustics
• The list of sonic tools supported in Techlog has been enhanced to cover the following tools:
o Antares XDA.
o Halliburton BSAT.
o Halliburton Xaminer.
• The following data preparation scripts have been updated:
o Baker Hughes: Soundtrak.
o SLB: ASLT/ISLT/QSLT/SSLT to manage the Field slowness projections variables.
Rock Physics

• Two new methods have been introduced to provide the option of automatic calibration of Han
equations for the compressional and shear velocities. The calibration process is an inverse
problem where the residual function is subject to the selection of a norm. The provided methods
are flexible and allow for the selection of a variety of norms. For example, L2 for least-squares,
L1 to better deal with outliers.
Wbi

• Performs the processing, post-processing and dip handling functionality for the new
Schlumberger Slim QGEO and ThruBit FMI tools.
Pore Pressure Prediction

• Ability to delete trendline from the LogView.

• Ability to save a trendline as a variable.

• Listen mode is enabled for a single well.

• New Bowers cross-plot for slowness with charts adjusted automatically with the correct limits.

• Separate buoyancy and centroid script in two different scripts.

• Centroid depth can be chosen to be at any depth.

Wellbore Stability

• Fracture stability has been added to the Techlog installation and now only requires the WBS
license.

• New failure criteria:

o Drucker-Prager (inscribed and circumscribed).
o Stasi d’Alia.
• Failure arc method:
o Evaluate sheer failure for a given width of breakout.
o Enabled for Drucker-Prager and Mohr-Coulomb.

What’s been fixed in 2018.1

What’s been fixed in 2018.1

Fixed bugs
• PPP – A bug that caused the Output filter in pore pressure to produce the same result in MW and
pressure units, has been fixed.

• PPP – The trendline now does not disappear if the zonation is not covering the full depth interval.

• PPP – The Depth gradient chart now works for ppg units.

• WBS – An improvement to the minimum and maximum mudweight computation for failure image
prediction has been made.

• MEM – The Friction angle parameter dependency function now works correctly.
