INTRODUCTION
Nutrition is the process in which you consume food or nourishing liquids, digest
and absorb them and use them for health and growth. Better nutrition means stronger
immune systems, less illness and better health. Healthy children learn better. Healthy
people are stronger, are more productive and more able to create opportunities to
gradually break the cycles of both poverty and hunger in a sustainable way. Nutrition is
Good nutrition can put a stop to many health problems, including becoming
overweight, developing weak bones, and developing diabetes. Finding the child all the
foods that have all the important nutrients will help him grow to his complete potential.
A child’s body prospers on certain nutrients that work together to promote growth and
development.
But there are children who cannot afford to meet proper nutrition. Like the
children in public schools. They are more prone to poor nutrition. Because most of
them are not able to afford to buy nutritious food and are knowledge deficient on what is
composed of 356 pupils enrolled and according to the teachers, most of them belongs
in poor family. And recent research shows that those who belong to poor family are the
ones who are more at risk to poor nutrition. So how about those Pupils who cannot
completely meet their basic needs in food nutrition? Will it greatly affect their
performance in school? However there are agencies that conduct special programs for
the proper nutition of the Pupils. Does it brings a great impact to the grade 6 pupils of

3. What are the agencies that support the nutrition of grade VI pupil in Baliwasan
Central School?
The goal of this study is to know the nutritional status of the Grade 6 children for
us to have a basis on how nutrition affects the school performances of the grade 6
This study aims in having the effective nutrition be met for the grade VI student in
Baliwasan central school. Effective nutrition will enhance their capabilitites such as
physical, mental, and developmental status. The study can be a basis on how to
promote healthy lifestyle of the grade VI pupils. The family of the grade 6 pupils would
also realize the importance of proper nutrition and will be aware of the risk when their
child is not enjoying proper nutrition. It would also give benefits to the community by
conducting health teaching and implementing feeding program to the grade 6 pupils of
Baliwasan Central School. Feeding programs are rarely happens in all public schools
because they just depend on the budget of Department of Health (DOH) so it is a great
priviledge for the school and grade 6 pupils to experience this activity. .

A. RELATED LITERATURE
All parents want their children to be healthy. As elementary grade 6 pupils go
through remarkable physical changes of all kinds, their food intake becomes a critical
aspect of this growth and development. Recent research shows that nourishing food not
only makes a child healthier, it makes him emotionally more stable, and it improves
school performance. Grade 6 pupils must be healthy and well-nourished in order to fully
participate in education and gain its maximum benefits. Early childhood care
programmes and primary schools which improve children’s health and nutrition can
But some grade 6 pupils do not get enough to eat each day because their
families lack money to buy sufficient food. Other grade 6 pupils consume enough food
but have diets high in fat, sugar, and sodium that put them at risk for obesity or heart
disease and other chronic illnesses. Iron deficiency is one of the most prevalent
nutritional problems of children. Iron deficiency and anemia lead to shortened attention
span, irritability, fatigue, and difficulty with concentration. Consequently, anemic children
tend to do poorly on vocabulary, reading, and other tests (Parker, 2005). Several
studies have found effects of hunger and poor nutrition on cognitive ability. One such
study found that among fourth grade students, those who had the least protein intake in
their diets had the lowest achievement scores (ASFSA, 2005). Children who are hungry
or undernourished also have more difficulty fighting infection. Therefore, they are more
likely to become sick, miss school, and fall behind in class. Poor health and malnutrition
are important underlying factors for low school enrollment, absenteeism, poor
classroom performance, and early school dropout, as reflected in the World Declaration
