1.00.00 SCOPE

1.01.00 This section covers the detailed scope of work and technical requirements for Electrical
equipment installation work.

2.00.00 CODES AND STANDARDS

2.01.00 The electrical installation work shall conform to the latest /applicable Bangladesh electricity
rules, currently applicable codes and standards indicated in Annexure I, regulations and
safety codes of the locality where the installation is to be carried out. In case of conflict
between these standards and this specification, requirements of this specification shall
govern. Nothing in this specification shall be construed to relieve the Bidder of his
responsibility.

2.02.00 All codes and standards referred to in the specification shall be understood to be the latest
version on the date of offer made by the Bidder unless otherwise indicated.

2.03.00 The Bidder shall ensure that instruments and gauges to be used for testing and inspection of
critical parameters as identified in the specification have valid calibration and the accuracy
can be traced to National Standard.

3.00.00 GENERAL SCOPE

3.01.00 The Bidder shall take over the equipment to be erected from the storage yard/stores/sheds,
transport the equipments where required in actual position, erect, assemble all parts of the
equipments, test and commission the same.

3.02.00 The work shall be carried out strictly as per the instructions and layout drawings of the
Purchaser /Manufacturer. In case of any doubt/misunderstanding as to correct interpretation
of the drawings or instructions, necessary clarifications shall be obtained from the Purchaser
. The Bidder shall be held responsible for any damage to the equipment consequent to not
following the instructions correctly. Manufacturer‟s equipment manuals will be furnished to
the Bidder who shall return the same after completion of work.

3.03.00 Bidder shall prepare detail Field Quality Plan (FQP) using SOP for erection/ preservation/
testing/ commissioning of all electrical equipments considering relevant standards, best
engineering practices and OEM guidelines and submit to Purchaser for approval. Bidder shall
have to submit details list of tools and tackle required for erection / preservation / testing /
commissioning of all the electrical equipments considering relevant standards, best
engineering and industrial practices, and OEM guidelines and submit to Purchaser for
approval before mobilisation for ETC. Bidder shall have to submit work completion schedule
with microcline planning for all major electrical equipments for Purchaser approval. However,
minimum requirements are indicated in this section.

3.04.00 The Purchaser shall engage specialist engineers from the equipment Manufacturers to
supervise the installation, testing and commissioning of their equipment. The Bidder shall
extend full cooperation to these engineers and carry out the works as per their instructions.
The Bidder‟s work shall include minor rewiring/modifications as may be necessitated during
commissioning. Providing such assistance shall be deemed to be included in the Bidder‟s
basic scope.

3.05.00 Bidder shall engage licensed cable jointers for carrying out jointing and termination of cables.
The work shall be carried out under the supervision of the OEM.

3.06.00 It will be the Bidder‟s responsibility to obtain approval from local statutory authorities
including Electrical Inspector, wherever applicable, for carrying out any work or for installation
carried out which comes under the purview of such authorities.

3.07.00 It is the responsibility of the Bidder to provide watch & ward and security for the
equipments/component parts covered in this contract. Any loss of equipment/component
parts, till the installation is handed over to the Purchaser, shall be made good by the Bidder.

3.08.00 The Bidder shall be responsible for cleaning all equipment under erection, under storage, the
work area and the project site at regular intervals to the satisfaction of the Purchaser. In case
the cleaning is not to the Purchaser‟s satisfaction, he will have the right to carry out the
cleaning operations and any expenditure incurred by the Purchaser in this regard will be to
the Bidder‟s account.

3.09.00 In order to avoid hazards to personnel moving around the equipment such as switchgear etc.
which is kept charged after installation, before commissioning, such equipment will be
suitably cordoned off to prevent anyone accidentally going near it.

3.10.00 The Bidder will carry out touch-up painting on any equipment, if the finish paint on the
equipment is soiled or marred during transportation /installation/handling.

3.11.00 The Bidder will ensure workmanship of good quality and will assign qualified
supervisors/engineers and competent labourers who are skilled having valid
licence/authorisation/work permit, careful and experienced in carrying out similar works. The
Purchaser will reserve the right to reject non-competent person employed by the Bidder, if
the workmanship is not found satisfactory. Wherever required the Bidder will include loaning
of skilled/unskilled personnel for work by Purchaser/other agencies, on Man-hour/Manday
rates, for normal & overtime work to meet the project schedule.

3.12.00 It shall be the responsibility of the Bidder to obtain necessary Licence/ Authorisation/permit
for work for his personnel from the Licensing Board of the locality/state where the work is to
be carried out. The persons deputed by the BIDDER‟s firm should also hold valid permits
issued or recognised by the Licensing Board of the locality/state/country where the work is to
be carried out.

4.00.00 EQUIPMENT INSTALLATION SCOPE

4.01.00 TEMPORARY LIGHTING ARRANGEMENT FOR THE WORK AREA

The Bidder will on his own arrange for the temporary lighting arrangement for the work area
to carry out the installation work in the plant premises.

4.02.00 CONSTRUCTION POWER

Construction power including power for testing and temporary lighting will be made available
at one point. The suitable number of outlets to cater to all the requirements will be provided
by the Bidder.

4.03.00 Equipment shall be installed in a neat, workmanlike manner so that it is level, plumb, square
and properly aligned and oriented. Tolerances shall be as established in the Manufacturer‟s
drawings or as stipulated by the Purchaser. No equipment shall be permanently bolted down
to foundation or structure until the alignment has been checked and found acceptable by the
Purchaser.

4.04.00 Care shall be exercised in handling to avoid distortion to stationary structures, the marring of
finish or damaging of delicate instruments or other electrical parts. Adjustment shall be made
as necessary to the stationary structures for plumb and level, for the sake of appearance or
to avoid twisting of frames, binding of hinged members etc.

4.05.00 The Bidder shall move all equipment into the respective buildings through the regular doors
or floor/wall openings provided specifically for lifting/moving the equipment. Wherever the
Purchaser‟s crane is made available for lifting heavy equipment and materials, the Bidder
shall move the equipment from storage site to the crane, attach to the crane hook to the
point(s) provided specifically for handling and install in final location. The Bidder shall submit
time schedule to the Purchaser, of the requirements for use of cranes. The Bidder shall make
his own arrangement for lifting of the equipment when the Purchaser‟s crane or cranes are
not available. Operation of the Purchaser‟s crane shall be by Purchaser‟s personnel only. No
part of the structure shall be utilised to lift or erect any equipment without prior permission of
the Purchaser.

4.06.00 Foundation work for all transformers, switchgears, motors, control panels/desks, neutral
grounding equipment, cable trenches etc. will be carried out by the Purchaser‟s civil Bidder.
However minor modifications to foundations, wherever found necessary for proper
installation, shall be carried out by the Bidder.

4.07.00 Base frames and additional structural supports for erection of switchgears and control panels
in floor cut outs shall be fabricated and installed by the Bidder. Necessary edge angles /
embedded plates in floor cut outs will be provided by the Civil Bidder.

4.08.00 Danger/warning plate having text written in English, Hindi and applicable vernacular
language shall be provided on all electrical equipment for voltages 400V and above. The
boards shall have the skull and cross bones, danger sign, together with the inscription,
inscribed in white letters on red background. Bidder shall mount these boards at site on any
of the equipment which are not provided with danger/warning plates. The danger/warning
plates shall comply with IS:2551 and Bangladesh Electricity Rules.

4.09.00 Chipping and punching holes/openings in concrete floors/walls and brick walls and finishing
them good and providing channels and embedment‟s wherever required..

4.10.00 Foundation work for all transformers, switchgears, motors, control panels/desks, neutral
grounding equipment, cable trenches etc. will be carried out by the Purchaser‟s civil Bidder.
However minor modifications to foundations, wherever found necessary for proper
installation, shall be carried out by the Bidder.

5.00.00 EQUIPMENT INSTALLATION

5.01.00 TRANSFORMERS

5.01.01 Site inspection, storage, installation, testing and commissioning of transformers shall be in
accordance with the specified code of practices and manufacturers instruction.

5.01.02 Transformers shall be delivered without oil, filled with inert gas and without bushings and
externally mounted accessories as applicable. The Bidder shall:
a) Assemble the transformers with all fittings such as bushings, cooler banks, radiators,
conservators, valves, pipings, cable boxes, marshalling boxes, OLTC, cooling
fans/pumps etc
b) Arrange for oil filtration before filling
c) Provide wedges/clamps to rigidly station all transformers on rails
d) Connect up the transformer‟s terminals and
e) Lay and terminate the cables/conduits between all the accessories mounted on the
transformer tank/cooler and the transformer marshalling kiosk

5.01.03 Care shall be taken during handling of insulating oil to prevent ingress of moisture or foreign
matter. In the testing, circulating, filtering or otherwise handling of oil, rubber hoses shall not
be used. Circulation and filtering of oil, heating of oil by regulated short-circuit current during
drying runs and sampling and testing of oil shall be in accordance with the Manufacturer‟s
instructions/specified Code of Practice.

5.02.00 SWITCHGEARS, CONTROL & RELAY PANELS

5.02.01 All the AC/DC Switchgears, PMCCs, ACDBs, lighting distribution boards etc. will be installed
in accordance with specified Code of Practice, drawings furnished and the Manufacturer‟s
instructions. The switchgear/panels will be installed on finished surfaces or concrete or steel
sills. These panels may be bolted on to the foundation pockets or welded to base frame
members as detailed in the drawings furnished by the Bidder. The Bidder will be required to
install and align any channel sills, which form part of the foundations. Proper aligning, joining
of various vertical shipping sections, Busbar connections, inter panel wiring etc. will be the
responsibility of the Bidder. In joining shipping sections of the switchgear / panels / control
centres together, adjacent housing or panel sections provided will be bolted together after
alignment has been completed. Power bus enclosures, ground and control splices of
conventional nature will be cleaned and bolted together, being drawn up with torque wrench
of proper size or by other approved means.

5.02.02 The Bidder will take utmost care in handling instruments, relays and other delicate
mechanisms. The blocking materials / mechanism employed for the safe transit of the
instruments and relays will be removed after ensuring that the panels/desks have been
completely installed and no further movement of the same would be necessary.

5.03.00 BUS DUCT

Bus ducts (Isolated phase / segregated / non-segregated) will be erected by the Bidder in
accordance with specified code of practice, manufacturer‟s instructions. Indoor portion of the
bus duct may be supported from the floor or ceiling beams and outdoor portion of the bus-
duct will be supported from ground below on suitable foundation. Wall frame assembly will
also be installed as per Bidder's / Manufacturer‟s drawings, wherever called for.

5.04.00 BATTERY & CHARGER

Installation and testing of battery and battery chargers shall be carried out in strict
compliance with the Manufacturer‟s instructions and commissioning check list enclosed with
the specification. Each cell shall be inspected for breakage and condition of cover seals as
soon as it is received at site. Each cell shall be filled with electrolyte in accordance with the
Manufacturer‟s instructions. Battery shall be set up on racks as soon as possible after
receipt, utilising lifting devices supplied by the Manufacturer. The cells shall not be lifted by
the terminals. Contact surfaces of battery terminals and intercell connectors shall be cleaned,
coated with acid resistant grease and assembled. Each connection shall be properly
tightened. Each cell shall be tested with hydrometer and thermometer and results logged.
Freshening charge, if required, shall be added. When handed over to the Purchaser, the
battery shall be fully charged and electrolyte shall be at full level and of specified specific
gravity.

5.05.00 MOTORS

The installation, commissioning of the motors will be as per the applicable code of practice
and the Manufacturer‟s instructions.

5.06.00 NEUTRAL GROUNDING EQUIPMENT

The Bidder shall install, test and commission the neutral grounding equipment (NGR, NGT
etc.) as per Manufacturer‟s instructions/relevant codes and standards.

5.07.00 GAS INSULATED SUBSTATION

The Bidder shall carryout installation, testing and commissioning of GIS and its accessories
as per the Manufacturer‟s instructions/relevant codes and standards.

5.08.00 LIGHTING SYSTEM INSTALLATION WORK

5.08.01 The lighting system installation work will confirm to the latest applicable electricity rules, all
currently applicable standards, codes of practice, regulations and safety codes of the locality
where the installation is to be carried out.

5.08.02 POINT WIRING

5.08.02.01 Wiring of lighting fixtures will be on point wiring basis. Two types of point wiring have been
envisaged viz. primary point wiring and secondary point wiring. Point wiring also covers the
wiring of the associated control switches of lighting fixtures/control switches and regulators of
ceiling fans/control switches of receptacle units.

5.08.02.02 Primary point wiring covers the wiring between a circuit of the lighting panel to the first
lighting fixture/ceiling fan/receptacle unit, connected to that circuit of the lighting panel. In
some cases where there are junction boxes, the primary point covers the wiring between
junction box and the first lighting fixture / ceiling fan/ receptacle unit in that circuit.

5.08.02.03 Secondary point wiring covers the wiring of the remaining lighting fixtures/ceiling fans /
receptacle units other than that covered under primary point of that circuit in the lighting
panel. Secondary point wiring also covers the wiring of the associated control switches of

lighting fixtures/control switches and regulators of ceiling fans/control switches of receptacle


units.

5.08.03 INSTALLATION OF CONDUIT POINT WIRING

5.08.03.01 The point wiring will include supply of necessary materials for the conduit wiring such as
coated / galvanised rigid steel conduit or GI conduit, galvanised MS fixing saddles with
spacer plates, nylon/fibre fixing plugs, galvanised MS fixing screws,12 swg galvanised steel
earthing wire, PVC insulated copper or aluminium conductor wires, control switches, pulling
and termination of the earthing / PVC insulated wires as required, installation of control
switches, GI Conduit wiring installation for 24V socket, drilling holes in brick walls / RCC roof
slabs for taking the wiring conduits and refinishing and any other works/ material necessary
for making point wiring complete in all respects.

5.08.03.02 Wiring will be carried out strictly as per project drawings. All conduit wiring concealed or
exposed wiring will have provision for easy inspection. Exposed wiring when run along wall
will be as near the ceiling as possible. GI conduit will be used for surface mounting and PVC
conduit for concealed wiring. Where cable wiring is specified, cable will be cleated on to the
wall as close to the ceiling as possible. In all types of wiring, due consideration will be given
for neatness and appearance.

5.08.03.03 Wherever DC emergency lighting is provided, emergency lighting wires will run in a separate
conduit. Colour of the wires used will be as follows; white for positive, black for negative.

5.08.03.04 Wherever lighting system has three phase distribution, separate conduits will be used for
different phases. For easy identification of phases and neutral wires the following colour
wires will be used.
i) R - Phase - Red

ii) Y - Phase - Yellow

iii) B - Phase - Blue

iv) Neutral - Black

5.08.03.05 There will be a circuit breaker or a linked switch on each live conductor of supply mains at
the point of entry. The wiring throughout the installation will be such that there is no break in
neutral wire in the form of switch or fuse unit.

5.08.03.06 Conductors not arranged for connection to the same system or supply different phases of the
same supply, will be kept apart throughout their entire run.

5.08.03.07 Receptacles and lighting fittings in general will be fed from different circuits. Five amps
receptacles for toilet or small rooms can be fed from the lighting circuit with proper isolating
arrangement.

5.08.03.08 Each final sub-circuit from a lighting panel will be controlled by a single pole switch / MCB
connected to the live conductor.

5.08.03.09 For long conduit wiring runs, inspection/pull boxes will be provided at intervals not extending
10 m. Such facilities will also be provided at conduit bends.

5.08.04 HAZARDOUS AREA WIRING

5.08.04.01 The method of wiring used in hazardous area i.e. either in screwed rigid heavy gauge steel
conduits or by armoured cable, shall be continued upto a distance as indicated below from
the boundaries of the demarcated area considered as hazardous :

i) Where processes or operations necessitating the use of flame proof equipment and
fittings are carried out in open 6m horizontally in any direction from the boundary line
and 3 m vertically above the highest source of hazard.

ii) Where processes or operations necessitating use of the flame proof equipment and
fittings is carried out in enclosed equipment upto 6 m horizontally of open face or door
opening of such equipment and 3 m vertically above the roof of such equipment

5.08.04.02 Circuits in hazardous areas shall be controlled by switches outside the hazardous area in a
convenient place. The switches shall disconnect from all sources of supply all unearthed
conductors terminating in any outlet in the room.

5.08.04.03 The wiring in hazardous area shall be carried out by highly skilled wiremen with due regard
for perfect terminations. The terminations in the junction boxes and the lighting fittings shall
be done so as not to work loose due to vibrations. After the terminations are made the cover
of the junction boxes and the lighting fittings shall be closed to make the complete fittings
weatherproof. All unused entries shall be properly plugged.

5.08.04.04 Joint/junction boxes shall be avoided in hazardous area. If necessary, boxes of approved
flame proof design shall be used and the same shall be type tested and proven design.

5.08.04.05 Bakelite ceiling roses and switches shall not be used in hazardous areas.

5.08.04.06 All strands of cables shall be fitted into terminals. The strands of cables shall not be cut. In
damp situations, strands shall be soldered together.

5.08.04.07 Cable glands for terminating cable on equipment with sparking devices such as control
switches etc. shall be of double compression Flame proof type.

5.08.05 GENERAL PRACTICES

5.08.05.01 All receptacles and switches to be installed in offices and control rooms shall be flush
mounted within the wall and those in other areas shall be wall or column mounted.

5.08.05.02 Ceiling roses shall not embody fuse terminals as an integral part. For voltages exceeding 250
volts, a ceiling rose or any similar attachment shall not be used.

5.08.05.03 A socket outlet shall not embody fuse terminals as an integral part of it. The switch controlling
the socket outlet shall be on the live side of the line.

5.08.05.04 All exposed metal parts of the plug, when the plug is in complete engagement with the socket
outlet, shall be in effective electrical connection with the earthing pin.

5.08.06 EARTHING

5.08.06.01 Conduits and fittings shall be earthed by 12 SWG GI wires (unless otherwise stated in Data
Sheet - A1), run along the length of the conduit and secured by means of suitable clamps
efficiently fastened to conduit. To achieve perfect electrical continuity, the conduits shall be
bonded effectively on either end of a coupling and other joints.

5.08.06.02 Conduits shall be grounded at the ends adjacent to switch boards at which they originate or
otherwise at the earth clip, clamp or gland, in effective electrical contact with the conduit.

5.08.06.03 In hazardous areas, and where wiring is done with multicore armoured cables, the third core
of each single phase circuit shall be used as earthing conductor and connected to the fitting /
junction box internal earthing terminal. The external earthing terminal of each junction box
shall be earthed by 12 SWG GI wire (unless otherwise specified) to the nearest earth grid.

5.09.00 EARTHING & LIGHTNING PROTECTION SYSTEM INSTALLATION WORK

5.09.01 The installation work will include unloading at site, storing, laying, fixing, jointing / termination,
testing and commissioning of equipment associated with the safety earthing system of the
plant and lightning protection system for buildings and allied structures. All welding / brazing
equipment, necessary tools and testing equipment will be furnished by the Bidder.

5.09.02 The Bidder will be responsible if any installation materials are lost or damaged during
installation. All damage and thefts will be made good by the Bidder till the installation is
handed over to the Purchaser.

5.09.03 The earthing of cable supporting structure, cable carriers, cable trays will be in the scope of
the Bidder.

5.09.04 The Bidder will carry out the lightning protection and earthing of all equipment / panels /
structures as indicated in the Project drawings. Whether specifically shown in drawings or
not, building columns, handrails, miscellaneous items such as junction / marshalling boxes,
field switches, cable boxes, etc. will be earthed.

5.09.05 The Bidder will install bare / insulated, copper / aluminium / steel conductors, braids etc.
required for the system and individual equipment earthing. All work such as cutting, bending,
supporting, painting/coating, drilling, brazing /soldering/welding, clamping, bolting and
connecting on to structures, equipment frames, terminals, rails or other devices will be in the
Bidder‟s scope of work. All incidental hardware and consumables such as fixing
cleats/clamps, anchor fasteners, lugs, bolts, nuts, washers, bitumastic compound, welding
rods, anti corrosive paint as required for the complete work will be deemed to be included by
the Bidder as part of the installation work.

5.09.06 If the tap connections (earthing leads) from the floor embedded main earthing grid to the
equipment are more than 500 mm long then the same will be embedded in floor by the
Bidder where required, together with associated civil work such as excavation, concreting
and surface finish. The concrete cover over the conductor will not be less than 50 mm.

5.09.07 The scope of installation of earth conductors in outdoor areas, buried in ground, will include
excavation of earth upto 600 mm deep and 450 mm wide, laying of conductor at 600 mm
depth brazing / welding / cad welding if required, of main grid conductor, joints as well as
risers of length 500 mm above ground at required locations and then backfilling. Backfilling
material to be placed over buried conductor will be free from stones and other harmful
mixtures. Backfill will be placed in layers of 150 mm, uniformly spread along the ditch, and

tampered utilising pneumatic tampers or other approved means, If the excavated soil is found
unsuitable for backfilling, the Bidder will arrange for suitable soil from outside.

5.09.08 The scope of installation of earth connection leads to equipment and risers on steel
structures/walls will include laying the conductors, welding/cleating at specified intervals,
welding/brazing to the main earth grids, risers, bolting at equipment terminals and coating
welded/brazed joints by bitumastic paint. Galvanised conductors will be touched up with zinc
rich paint where holes are drilled at site for bolting to equipment/structure.

5.09.09 The scope of installation of electrodes will include installation of these electrodes (a) directly
in earth, (b) in constructed earth pits, and connecting to main buried earth grid, as per project
drawings / relevant standards. The scope of work will include excavation, construction of the
earth pits including all materials required for construction of earth pits, placing the rod and
fixing test links on those pipe/rod/plate electrodes in test pits and connecting to main earth
grid conductors.

5.09.10 The scope of installation of lightning conductors on the roofs of buildings will include
construction of upstands, laying, anchoring, fastening and cleating of horizontal conductors,
grouting of vertical rods wherever necessary, laying, fastening / cleating / welding of the
downcomers on the walls / columns of the building and connection to the test links to be
provided above ground level.

5.09.11 The scope of installation of the test links will include mounting of the same at specified height
on wall/column by suitable brackets and connections of the test link to the earth electrode.

5.09.12 Wherever main earthing conductor crosses cable trenches, they will be buried below the
trench floor.

5.09.13 Earth leads between earthing riser and equipment earthing terminals will follow as direct and
as short a path as possible.

5.09.14 Neutral connection will never be used for the equipment earthing.

5.09.15 Each neutral point of a transformer will be connected to two separate treated type earth
electrodes.

5.09.16 Track rails will be bonded with the rail boards and connected to the earthing system.
Adjacent railway tracks will be bonded across fish plates.

5.09.17 Wherever earthing conductor passes through walls, galvanised iron sleeves will be
provided for the passage of earthing conductor. The pipe ends will be sealed using suitable
waterproof compound.

5.09.18 All connections in the main earth conductors in earth/concrete and connection between main
earthing conductor and earth leads will be of welded/brazed type. Cad welding type
connections will be done only if specifically indicated.

5.09.19 Connection between earth leads and earthing terminal provided on the equipment will be
bolted type.

5.09.20 All joints will be made such that contact resistance is negligible.

5.09.21 All bimetallic connections will be treated with suitable compound to prevent moisture
ingression.

5.09.22 Metallic conduits and pipes will be connected to the earthing system.

5.09.23 Lightning protection system down conductors will not be connected to any earthing
conductors above ground level. Also no intermediate earthing connection will be made from
support structure of lightning arrestor.

5.09.24 Transformer & generator earthing will be directly connected to the earth electrode.

5.09.25 Electrodes will as far as practicable, be embedded below permanent moisture level.

5.09.26 Wherever required, test pits with concrete covers, for periodic testing of earth resistivity, will
be provided. Installation of rod / pipe / plate electrodes in test pits will be suitable for
watering. All the necessary materials required for test pits will be supplied and installed by
Bidder. The installation work will also include connection to main earth grid and civil work
such as excavation

5.09.27 Earth pits will be treated with salt and charcoal and should be in accordance to IS 3043,
Bangladesh Electricity rules.

5.09.28 The lightning protection air termination rods and/or horizontal air termination conductors will
be fixed in such a way that they remain in their installed position even during severe weather
conditions. Lightning protection installation should be in accordance with IS 2309,
Bangladesh Electricity rules.

5.09.29 Air termination system will be connected to earthing system below ground by down
conductors as shown in various project drawings. The down conductors will follow a direct
path to earth. There will not be any sharp bends, turns and kinks in the down conductors

5.09.30 All joints in the down conductors will be of welded/brazed type. All metallic structures within 2
metres from down conductors will be bonded to lightning protection system

5.09.31 The lightning protection system will not be in direct contact with underground metallic service
ducts, cables, cable conduits and metal enclosures of electrical equipment. However all
metal projections, railings, vents, tanks etc. above the roof will be bonded together to form a
part of roof grid

5.09.32 Separate electronic earthing shall be provided for DCS, PLC, other electronic equipment and
I/O panels. Electronic earthing pit shall be maintenance free copper plate type earth pits with
minimum 0.5 ohm. 2nos. of 50x6mm copper strips bolted to copper plate earth electrode
shall be used as conducting material in the earth pits with homogenous layer of salt and
charcoal. Earthing pit for the UPS shall be separate from DCS / PLC earthing pit. Earth mat
comprising of copper earthing cable/ strip/ wire and other accessories required for electronic
earthing from earth pit risers to DCS / PLC system and other panels and UPS shall be in the
bidder‟s scope.

5.10.00 CABLE CARRIER INSTALLATION

shall be 275 mm. In vertical race ways with multi-tiers the tiers shall be located atleast with
400 mm intervals.

5.10.02 In trenches the width of the cable tray shall be limited to 600 mm. In case of horizontal trays it
shall be limited to 800 mm.

5.10.03 Separate trays shall be provided for HV Power / LV Power (AC&DC) / Control /
Instrumentation and communication cables. Communication links wherever redundant shall
be run in different conduits and in separate trays.

5.10.04 Vertical cable trays shall be supported at every 1000 mm interval and horizontal cable trays
shall be supported at every 1500mm intervals.

5.10.05 Cable trays shall be welded to the mounting/carrier structures.

5.10.06 Vertical trays (raceways) and all outdoor cable trays shall be provided with removable 16
gauge galvanised MS sheet covers.

5.10.07 Each continuous laid out length of cable tray shall be earthed at minimum two places by MS
flats of minimum size 25mm x 3mm, the distance between earthing points shall not exceed
10 metres.

5.10.08 When cables are taken in vertical raceways /trays and they pass from one floor to other floor,
pipe sleeves in concrete shall be provided.

5.10.09 At least 300mm clearance shall be maintained between the top tray and beams, piping or
other obstacles to facilitate installation of cables in the tray. A working space of not less than
750 mm shall be maintained atleast on one side of each tray.

5.11.00 CABLING SYSTEM INSTALLATION

5.11.01 Scope of installation work

5.11.01.01 The cabling system installation work shall include installation, fixing, jointing/termination of
complete cabling system items and any other work/items necessary for completing the job.

5.11.01.02 Normally the required embedment plates will be provided by others at the time of civil
construction. Wherever the embedment plates are not provided by others, the bidder shall
provide the embedment plates by using anchor fasteners. However, minor civil works such
as making holes/grooves in floor slab/wall and patching up in an approved manner any holes
made in the walls/floors by the bidder, embedment of short lengths of conduits, plates in
floors, walls etc. if not already done by Purchaser‟s Civil Bidder shall be deemed to be
included in the scope of bidder.

5.11.02 Cabling work details

5.11.02.01 The Purchaser / Purchaser‟s engineer drawings, cable schedules, instructions and
recommendations shall be correctly followed by the bidder in handling, laying of the cabling
system. In case of any doubt / misunderstanding as to correct interpretation of drawings /
instructions necessary clarifications shall be obtained by the bidder from the Purchaser.

5.11.02.02 Any change in routes of cables which are required to be made to suit site conditions shall be
carried out by the bidderin consultation with the Purchaser and after his approval. All such
changes shall be incorporated by the Bidder in the relevant project drawings and in cable
schedules. The bidder shall take Plots / Prints as the case may be after incorporating all
changes carried out at site and forward the same along with soft copy to Purchaser for
further action. Bidder shall update / incorporate all such changes in final As-Built drawings.

5.11.02.03 All thefts and damage of cables or equipment to which cables are to be connected, till the
installation is handed over to the purchaser, shall be made good by the bidder.

5.11.02.04 It shall be the bidder‟s scope for storing all short lengths of cables and arranging for
reconciliation billing. All such lengths which can be effectively reused and cable lengths not
used shall be collected and returned to the purchaser‟s stores.

5.11.02.05 Standard cable grips and reels shall be utilised for cable pulling. In using woven basket type
grips on lead sheathed cable, care shall be taken to avoid damage to the cable and seal,
which shall be made up and maintained during cable installation. If unduly difficult pulling
occurs, the bidder shall check pull required and suspend further pulling until further
procedure has been approved by the Purchaser. Maximum pull tension shall not exceed
recommended value for the cable measured by dynamometer. In general any lubricant that
does not injure the overall covering and does not set up undesirable conditions of
electrostatic stress or electrostatic charge may be used in pulling insulated cables in conduits
and ducts. In particular soap shall not be used as lubricant. For cables over 1100V volts and
having non-metallic jackets without adequate static shielding, the lubricant should not include
hygroscopic greases that will leave a conducting film on the surface of the cable.

5.11.02.06 After pulling cable, the bidder shall record cable identification and data pulled, neatly with
water-proof ink on linen tags at all cable ends. This is in addition to the cable identification
tags to be tied by GI wire at each end of the cable as shown in standard drawing enclosed in
notes and details.

5.11.02.07 Cable take-off from drums shall be so planned as to avoid using joints and splices in the run
of the cable. Cable splices will be made only after obtaining permission of the engineer.
Splices where permitted, shall be made in a neat workman like and approved manner by
specialists in this class of work, particular attention being paid to higher voltage splices and
splices involving armour or lead sheath construction. Splices shall be made by the bidder for
each type of cable in accordance with the instructions issued by the cable supplier and the
engineer. Before splicing, insulated cables shall have conductor insulation stepped and
bound or pencilled for recommended distance back from splices to provide a long leakage
path. After splicing, insulation equal to that of the spliced conductors shall be applied at each
splice. In baring conductors for splices, care shall be taken to avoid kinking of strands.

5.11.02.08 Cables shall be protected at all times from mechanical injury and from absorption of moisture
at unprotected ends. Damaged cables shall be replaced at the bidder‟s expense.

5.11.02.09 Sharp bending of cables shall be avoided. The bending radii for various types of cables shall
not be less than those specified in cable installation notes. If shorter radius appears
necessary, no bend shall be made until clearance and instructions are obtained from the
Purchaser.

5.11.02.10 Where cables cross roads/ water/oil/gas/sewage pipes, they shall be run in hume/steel pipes.
The depth of burial of the pipes shall be as indicated on project drawings; however, it shall

not be less than 600mm.

5.11.02.11 When power cables are laid in the proximity of communication cables, minimum separation
between power and communication cables shall be not less than 460mm for single-core
cables and 300mm for multi-core cables. Power and communication cables shall, as far as
possible, cross at right angles to each other.

5.11.02.12 The end portions of directly buried cables shall be protected as indicated in the relevant
enclosed typical drawings, by bringing out the cables from earth at the entry/exit points in
conduits/pipes.

5.11.02.13 Cable on cable racks, in cable trays and upon emerging from conduits shall be formed to
avoid bearing against edges of trays, racks, conduits or their supports upon entering or
leaving trays, racks or conduits. Cables in horizontal runs in trays shall be tied by 3mm nylon
cord to the cable trays. Sequence of cables transversely in trays shall avoid unnecessary
crossing of other cables when some of the cables make turns into lateral trays, or upon
entering or leaving a run of tray. Cables shall be laid flat in trays, with allowance for angles,
offsets and branches. Cables shall then be restrained temporarily in an approved manner on
one side of each angle, branch or offset in turn, cables shall be formed to the change in tray
direction so that the finished cable will lie flat and straight in the tray in a neat and approved
manner without restraint and without looping out of trays along straight runs of trays, on any
change of direction. Where excess length has been fed into a tray ,such excess length shall
be backed out of tray as cable is formed at bends and is trimmed flat and straight in trays,
and finally out to correct length upto its terminal point. Where cabinet, cubicle, switchgear or
other terminal point for cable are equipped with cable or wiring trays or through gutters, the
bidder shall pull sufficient length of each cable to permit neat arrangement of all entering
cables, with leads formed and clamped as each conductor is brought to its terminal
connection.

5.11.02.14 Cables shall be clamped along walls, ceilings, columns, structures etc. on emerging out from
trenches, trays, embedded conduits etc. before they are connected at equipment
terminals/enter into junction boxes etc.

5.11.02.15 The arrangement and interval of clamping of cables shall be as per the relevant enclosed
cable installation drawings. Control and power cables shall be clamped separately. It will be
responsibility of the bidder to check the neatness of such cable runs and to see that
horizontal/vertical runs of cables are parallel to fixed axes in respective plans.

5.11.02.16 The bidder shall make connections to small electrically operated devices on equipment
installed as accessories to, or assembled with other equipment and requiring two-wire or
three-wire connections. Connections to recording instruments, float switches, limit switches,
pressure switches, thermocouples, thermostats and other miscellaneous equipment shall be
done as per the supplier‟s/engineer‟s drawings and schedules.

5.11.02.17 The bidder shall be responsible for correct phasing of the motor power connections and shall
interchange connections at the motor terminal box, if necessary after each motor is test run.

5.11.02.18 At terminal point where the conductor and cable insulation will be terminated, terminations
shall be made in a neat, workmanlike and approved manner by men specialised in this class
of work. Terminations shall be made by the bidder for each type of wire or cable in
accordance with instructions issued by cable supplieer and the Purchaser‟s engineer.. The
bidder shall have on hand at the job site the supplier‟s drawings on high voltage cable
terminations. Terminations shall be made using compression type lugs. Main runs of power

and control cables shall consist of PVC/XLPE insulated armoured or unarmoured cables.
Terminations of such cables will generally occur in terminal boxes where splices may be
required, using a special compression or clamp type termination, beyond which PVC
insulated conductor, will continue to the terminals of the control device. Terminal boxes in
which splices occur may require filling with compound after completion of splices.

5.11.02.19 Control cable terminations shall be made in accordance with wiring diagrams/cable
interconnection diagram and cable schedule furnished to the BIDDER for this purpose. It is
the intent that the bidder shall terminate the cables which were installed and while testing,
reversal or other rearrangements of terminations are necessary. The same shall be
performed by the bidder without any implications.

5.11.02.20 When control cable cores are to be fanned out and cabled together with cord, the BIDDER
shall make connections to terminal blocks, and test equipment for proper operation with
some extra length of cables before cables are corded together. If there is any doubt as to
proper connection, the bidder shall make temporary connection to another terminal without
splicing cable.

5.11.02.21 Splices will not be accepted, and any cable cut out short shall be replaced and installed, at
the Bidder‟s expense. After correct connections are established through operating
equipment, cables shall be cut to correct lengths, connected to terminals in the specified
manner and corded together where necessary to hold cables in place in workman like
manner.

5.11.02.22 Jointing of cables shall be carried out in accordance with the Supplier‟s special instructions.
Hardware like clips, clamps and tools required for cable jointing work shall be supplied by the
bidder. Cables shall be firmly clamped on either sides of a straight through joint at not more
than 300mm away from the joints. Identification tags shall be provided at each joint and at all
cables. Single core cable joints shall be marked so that phase identity at each joint can be
determined easily. The joints shall be located at the most suitable places. There shall be
sufficient overlap of cables to allow for the removal of cable ends which may have been
damaged.

5.11.02.23 Joint pits shall be sufficiently spaced to allow the jointers to work with as much freedom as
possible. When two or more cables are laid together, joints shall be arranged to be
staggered by about three meters.

5.11.02.24 Cable seals shall be examined to ascertain if they are intact and also that cable ends are not
damaged. If the seals are found to be broken or lead sheath punctured, the cable ends shall
not be jointed until after due examination and testing by the Purchaser. Before jointing is
commenced, insulation resistance of both sections of cables to be jointed shall be checked to
be satisfactory by megger and insulation values recorded.

5.11.02.25 Special tools, clips and saddles, locknut, etc, required for the connection and termination of
mineral insulated cables shall be supplied by the bidder. During installation, connection and
termination of mineral insulated cables, care shall be exercised to ensure that aluminium
sheath is not damaged. The cable shall be bent using special bending tools approved by the
Purchaser.Groups of mineral insulated cables shall be bent neatly around the corners by
using innermost cable as a form around which to bend the next cable. Cables shall not be
fastened or clamped close to the point of entry to the equipment which may vibrate severely.
If necessary, flexible conduit may be used or special instructions furnished by the supplier
shall be strictly followed.

5.11.02.26 Metal sheath and armour of the cable shall be bonded to the earthing system of the station.
Bond shall be of atleast 70sqmm copper conductor unless otherwise specified.

5.11.02.27 All new cables shall be megger tested before jointing. After jointing is completed all L.V.
cables shall be megger-tested and H.V. cables (3.3kv and above) Hi-pot tested before
commissioning. The test voltage for Hi-pot testing shall be as per the relevant cable
standards.1100/650 Volt grade cables shall be tested using 1000 volt Megger.

5.11.03 Cable laying and installation

5.11.03.01 The bidder shall install power and control cables and any other cables which will be furnished
by the purchaser. Cables, Cable glands and lugs will be provided by Purchaser at site. Cable
trays, cable ducts, embedded conduits, trenches etc will be made available by the BOP
Bidder to the extent possible. However All the necessary accessories like cleats, clamps,
saddles, trefoil clamps, spacers, nylon chords for tying and cable identification tags shall be
arranged by the bidder to complete the cable installation.

5.11.03.02 The cables shall be laid in built-up trenches, directly buried in ground, on cable trays, vertical
raceways, clamped on structures/walls/ceiling, pulled through pipes and conduits etc. as
shown in the typical/project drawings. The scope of cable installation shall include laying,
pulling of cables, proper dressing of cables on cable trays, racks, vertical raceways.

5.11.03.03 Different voltage grade cables shall be laid in separate trays. When trays are arranged in
tiers, HT cables shall be laid in top trays and cables of subsequent voltage grades in lower
tiers of trays.

The HT power cables shall be laid in trays/on racks as follows

a) In single layer only without exception.

b) 3 core cables to be laid in touching formation

c) Single core cables to be laid in trefoil groups

1100V grade power cables of 120-mm² size and above shall normally be laid in single layer
in trays/racks. 1100V grade power cables below 120 mm² may be run in double layers,
where required, due to space restrictions. Control and instrumentation cables can be laid
upto a maximum of three layers in each tray/rack. Single core power cables for 3 phase AC
circuits laid in trays/racks/ trenches in trefoil groups shall be held in trefoil clamps placed at
an interval of 3 m.
The trefoil groups of cables shall be additionally tied by means of 3 mm dia. nylon cord as
follows:

a) At an interval of 1m when laid in cable trays/racks.

b) At an interval of 750 mm when laid in trenches without cable trays.

Control cables and small power cables on racks shall be run in ladder type cable trays
supported on rack carrier arms. The cables shall be tied to tray rung by means of 3-mm dia.
nylon cord at an interval of 5000 mm and also at bends. FRP cable trays should be used in
DM plant and chemical house.

5.11.03.04 The cable installation shall include additional clamping of the cables to cable trays and cable
supporting arms by means of cable ties / strips at 3 m intervals, in their horizontal run, after
installation of cables. Interval of clamping shall be 1.5 m for cable trays in vertical
disposition. Bidder shall arrange the required materials.

5.11.03.05 The Bidder shall put ferrules on all control cable cores in all junction boxes and at all
terminations. The ferrules shall carry terminal numbers as per drawings. All ferrules shall be
coloured, plastic & interlocked type.

5.11.03.06 Each cable and cable tray shall be tagged with numbers. Cables and conduits shall be
tagged at their entrance, at every 30 m and exit from any equipment, junction box. The tags
shall be of aluminium or other approved means with the number punched on it and securely
attached to the cable. The location of cable joints, if any, shall be clearly indicated with cable
marker with an additional inscriptions "Cable-Joint" and "Cable Number".

5.11.03.07 Conduits shall be used for routing of cables (power / control) from cable trays to equipment/
junction boxes. Pipe sleeves shall be used for routing of cables between floors, road
crossing, entry/exit from outside of building etc. All conduits/pipe shall have their ends closed
by caps till the cables are pulled. After the cables are pulled, the ends shall be sealed by
suitable sealing compound having fire withstand capability.

5.11.03.08 Ladder / perforated Cable trays, coupler plates, bends, Tees, Crossers, Reducers and tray
covers shall be fabricated from 14 gauge (2.0 mm thick) mild steel sheets. Cable trays and
accessories shall be of hot dip galvanised Steel. Cable tray covers shall be fabricated from
16 gauge (1.60 mm thick) MS sheets. Cable trays shall be supplied with 2.5 metre sections.

5.11.03.09 Height of various sizes of cable trays shall be as below:

5.11.03.10 Support system shall be so designed that it is able to withstand weight of the cable trays,
Weight of the cables (75 Kg/metre run of each cable tray),Concentrated load of 75 Kg
between every support span without any permanent deflection. Factors of safety of atleast
1.5 shall be considered.

5.11.03.11 Galvanising of the steel members shall be as per IS:4759 and IS:2633.The acceptable
values of the coating of zinc on cable trays, accessories, cable tray covers and for other
equipments/materials wherever specified in this specification shall be with minimum value of
610 gm/sq.m. Galvanising of each member shall be carried out in one complete immersion.
Double dipping shall not be permitted. All galvanised members shall be treated with sodium

dichromate solution or an approved equivalent after galvanising, so as to prevent white


storage stains.

5.11.03.12 The galvanised surface shall consist of a continuous and uniformly thick coating of zinc,
firmly adhering to the surface of steel. The finished surface shall be clean and smooth, and
shall be free from defects like discoloured patches, bare spots, globules, spiky deposits,
blistered surface, flaking or peeling off, etc. The presence of any of these defects noticed on
visual or microscopic inspection shall render the material liable to rejection.

5.11.03.13 Wherever galvanised bolts, nuts, washers, accessories etc are specified, these shall be hot-
dip galvanised. Spring washers shall be electro-galvanised. Readily available GI nuts, bolts
and washers conforming to galvanising requirements may also be used.

5.11.03.14 Galvanised steel conduits shall be used for size upto 63.5 mm. The conduits shall be
manufactured by electric resistance welding process and shall be hot dip galvanised. The
conduits and fittings shall comply with IS: 1653, 3837, and 2667.

5.11.03.15 Galvanised steel pipes shall be used for sizes from 80mm onwards. They shall be medium
duty class-B type as per IS. The pipes shall be manufactured by electric resistance welding
and hot dip galvanised. The pipes and fittings shall comply with IS.

5.11.03.16 Cable tray mounting supports shall be fabricated from standard structural steel sections.
These supports shall be painted with cold galvanisation paint.

5.11.03.17 Each continuous laid out length of cable tray shall be earthed at minimum two places by GS
flats of minimum size 25mm x 3mm, the distance between earthing points shall not exceed
10 metres.

5.11.04 Cable Termination

5.11.04.01 All cables shall be connected at both ends. The scope of work shall include making the
requisite holes in the gland plate, fixing the glands, terminating the cables in the glands,
mounting of core balance CT if required, earthing the cable armour, crimping the cable lugs
on each core, neatly clamping the cables in cable alleys/wiring troughs and connecting to the
terminals as per the wiring diagrams and the cable schedules. The cable and core identifying
tags and core identifying ferrules respectively shall be supplied and installed by the Bidder as
a part of cable termination work.

5.11.04.02 Cables shall be additionally supported near the entry point of equipment in order to avoid the
whole weight of the cables, coming on to the gland plate / cable box

5.11.04.03 Cable termination for HT cables shall be generally as described above and shall also include
heat shrinkable tubing system of cable termination. Scope of work shall include fixing cable
box, stress grading / relieving materials, bonding tape, rain hoods for outdoor, and preparing
the termination impervious to air and moisture and of high mechanical strength.

5.11.04.04 The equipment will be generally provided with undrilled gland plates for cables / conduit
entry. The Bidder shall be responsible for punching, drilling of gland plates, painting and
touching up. Holes shall be made by gas cutting / drilling.

5.11.04.05 Control and instrumentation cables / cable cores entering control panel / switchgear / MCC /
miscellaneous panels shall be neatly run in PVC channels/ trough or bunched, clamped and

tied with cable ties to keep them in position. Spare cores shall be similarly tagged / ferruled /
cross ferruled with a suffix letter “S” along with cable numbers and coiled up after end
sealing.

5.11.04.06 All cable entry points shall be sealed and made vermin and dust protected. Unused
openings shall be effectively sealed

5.11.04.07 If the cable-end box or terminal enclosure provided on the equipment is found unsuitable and
requires modifications, the same shall be carried out by the bidder, as directed by the
purchaser.

5.11.04.08 Cables shall be terminated using cable glands suitable for the voltage grade of cables. Cable
glands shall be heavy duty brass machine finished and tinned. Cable glands shall be
supplied with neoprene seal and earth lugs suitable for the fault capacity of the armour of the
installed cables.

5.11.04.09 Cable glands shall be double compression type for armoured cables. For flame proof
equipment and equipment located in hazardous areas, cable glands shall be of flame proof
type.

5.11.04.10 Cable lugs shall be of aluminium for aluminium cables and tinned copper for copper cables.
Thickness of tinning shall be not less than 10 microns Type of end connection shall be
solderless crimping type. Cable lugs for conductors of power cables shall be "heavy duty"
type. The type & size of cable lugs for power cables shall be selected according to the
number and sizes of strands of the cable.

5.11.04.11 Type of cable lugs shall be as follows:


 Power cables with aluminium conductor : Aluminium crimping type.
 Power cables with copper conductor : Copper crimping type.
 Control Cables : Copper pin type /Copper screw type
 Special cables : pin type / maxi-termi type

5.11.05 Cable Joints

5.11.05.01 Jointing of cables shall be made in accordance with relevant codes of practice and
Manufacturer's special instructions. Cables shall be firmly clamped and supported within 300
mm from the joint to avoid mechanical stresses on the joint.

5.11.05.02 The bidder shall plan and cut the cables in such a way that joints are avoided as far as
possible and also the wastage of cable is limited to a minimum.

5.11.05.03 Joints shall not be permitted in control cables. However, in long runs of power cables, joints
shall be permitted at an accessible location which shall be chosen in consultation with
Purchaser/Purchaser‟s engineer before work is taken up. A record of all joints giving cable
number, type of cable, type of joint, location and date of jointing shall be kept by the bidder.

5.11.05.04 The straight through jointing method and its application technique shall be of thoroughly
proven type. Joint kits shall be „Tapex type‟ or „Heat shrinkable type‟ .

5.11.05.05 Wherever junction boxes are provided for cable joint of control cable, the bidder shall indicate

in as built drawing indicating location of junction boxes and submit the same to Purchaser.

5.11.05.06 Straight through joint and termination shall be capable of withstanding the fault level of 40kA
for 6.6kV Cables

5.11.05.07 Termination and joints shall have provision for shield connection and earthing. Earthing lug
and braided copper earth lead shall make part of termination kit. Make and type of the
termination and jointing kits shall be subjected to the approval of Purchaser.

5.11.06 Cable Tags and Markers

5.11.06.01 Each cable shall be tagged with numbers that appear in the cable schedule. The tag shall be
of aluminium with the number punched on it and securely attached to the cable/conduit by
not less than two turns of 20 SWG GI wire. Cable tags shall be of rectangular shape for
power cables and of circular shape for control cables. Cable tags shall be provided on all
cables at each end, on both sides of wall/floor crossings, on each duct/conduit entry and at
every ten (10) metres in cable trench/tray racks.

5.11.06.02 Location of cables laid directly underground shall be clearly indicated with cable marker
made of galvanised iron plate. Location of underground cable joints shall be indicated with
cable marker with an additional inscription "Cable joint". The marker shall project 150 mm
above ground and shall be spaced at an interval of 30 meters, and at every change in
direction. They shall be located on both sides of road and drain crossings. Top of cable
marker/joint marker shall be sloped, to avoid accumulation of water/dust on marker

5.11.06.03 Location of underground cables entering the building shall be clearly indicated with a cable
entry marker, made out of galvanised steel plate.

5.11.07 Sealing of Floor Openings

5.11.07.01 All floor and wall openings for vertical cable trays/raceways shall be sealed by fire-proof
compound. The scope of work shall include preparing and laying of the compound. The fire
proof cable penetration sealing system of each wall / floor crossing shall be adequately
designed / sized such that 20% addition of cables is possible at any later date without
disturbance / wastage of material in the penetration system.

5.11.07.02 The fire proof cable penetration sealing system shall be suitable for site condition at 50°C
ambient temperature and relative humidity of 100%. Contractor shall co-ordinate, plan and
use the material within stipulated self-life of material. Sealing putty shall not be based on
chlorinated rubber.

5.11.07.03 The fire proof cable penetration sealing system:


 Shall be capable of withstanding mechanical loads, foot traffic drop loads, vibrations,
wind pressure etc.
 Shall not get affected over a period of time due to humidity, moisture, ozone and
variation in ambient temperature.
 Shall be completely gas and smoke tight.
 Shall retain their integrity and perform satisfactorily even after remaining in water for
long period.

 Shall be non-toxic and harmless to the working personnel.


 Shall have no reaction with cable sheath galvanizing / painting of structural steel.
 Shall have anti-rodent and anti-termite properties.
 Shall have no shrinkage or cracking after the setting for the complete life of the power
plant.
 Shall not emit any corrosive or toxic fumes or smoke on the unexposed face or the
barrier.
 Should have a shelf life of at least 2 years after the supply of materials.

5.12.00 MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS

5.12.01 Communication equipment, space heater panels, local starters, capacitors and every other
electrical equipment within the plant premises shall be installed, tested and commissioned as
per respective equipment Vendor‟s instructions, relevant code of practice and the drawings
furnished by Purchaser/Vendor. Suitable brackets, angle/channel section for wall mounted
equipment shall be provided by the Bidder

5.12.02 Local Push Button Stations (LPBS) with local start/stop facility will be provided for all HT and
LT drives including MOVs. The stop push button in the LPBS shall of with mush room head,
stay put and turn to release type. The LPBS will be located close to the drives. Their contacts
shall be rated to make, continuously carry and break
6 A at 110V/230V AC and 1A (inductive) at 110V DC. Push buttons shall have 2NO+2NC
contacts. The contact faces shall be of silver alloy. All push-buttons shall be provided with
integral escutcheon plates marked with its function.

5.12.03 The colour of the button shall be as follows:


 Green for motor START, breaker CLOSE, valve / damper OPEN /CLOSE commands.
 Red for motor TRIP, breaker OPEN.
 Black for all annunciator functions, overload reset and miscellaneous commands.

6.00.00 TESTING AND COMMISSIONING

6.01.00 All checks and routine tests as per the Manufacturer‟s drawings/manuals, relevant code of
installation , Bangladesh Electricity rules and commissioning check lists for various electrical
equipment e.g. Transformers, breakers, motors, switchgear, relays, meters etc. will be
carried out by Bidder.

6.02.00 All testing equipments required for site testing will be brought by the Bidder. Valid calibration
certificates for the testing equipments will be produced.

6.03.00 The Bidder will perform operating tests on all switchgear and panels to verify operation of
switchgear/panels and correctness of the interconnections between various items of the
equipment. This will be done by applying normal AC or DC voltage to the circuits and
operating the equipment for functional checking of all control circuits, e.g., closing, tripping,
control interlock, supervision and alarm circuits. All connections in the switchgear will be
tested from point to point for possible grounds or short circuit.

6.04.00 The Bidder will ensure the continuity of all conductors and joints. The Purchaser may ask for
earth continuity tests, earth resistance measurements and other tests which in his opinion
are necessary to prove that the system is in accordance with the design, specifications, code
of practice and Bangladesh Electricity Rules. The Bidder will bear the cost of all such tests.

6.05.00 Insulation resistance tests will be carried out by following rating meggers

6.07.00 The Purchaser‟s authorised representative shall be present during every test. The Bidder
shall record all test values and furnish the required copies of the test data to the Purchaser.
Electrical circuits and equipments shall be energised or used at normal operating voltage
only after such reports have been accepted as satisfactory by the Purchaser.

7.00.00 SAFETY PROCEDURE

7.01.00 Bidder shall have safety plan and procedure complying with the relevant standards which
must be followed strictly including engagement of certified safety officers/ supervisors to
control and monitor safety aspects during execution of the work. They shall also follow
customer‟s requirement of safety as applicable.

7.02.00 Bidder shall carry out safety training program regularly at site for his personnel and workmen
before any execution work is taken up.

7.03.00 It is the responsibility of the BIDDER to arrange safety shoes, helmets, safety goggles,
welding protectors, safety belts, flash proof dress, grounding equipment etc as required.
