4. Support your answer by neat sketches wherever necessary.
Q. 1 Marks
A. Explain with neat sketch the inversions of single slider crank mechanism with 04
applications.
B. A gear wheel having 20 teeth of Involute form of 6.5 module and an angle of 06
obliquity of 20 drives another wheel of same dimensions. Calculate the length of
the arc of contact the contact if the addendum is 6.5. If the addendum were
altered so that the arc of contact was maximum possible, what would be the
length of this arc and addendum required for this
Q. 2 A. Explain the Exact two mass system and approximate two mass system. 04
B. The crank shaft of a vertical single cylinder engine, stroke 250mm, rotates at 300 06
rpm. The reciprocating parts including part of connecting rod have a mass of 100
kg. the connecting rod has a mass of 120kg, it is 450 mm long , the center of
mass is 300mm from the gudgeon pin axis and the radius of gyration about the
same axis is 363mm. when the crank is 300 from TDC position and moving
downward find
a) The side thrust on cylinder walls due to the inertia of reciprocating parts.
b) The total Kinetic energy of connecting rod
Q. 3 A. A crank OA, 100mm long, rotates clockwise at 100rpm as shown in figure 1. Rod 08
AC, 500mm long slide in a swiveling pin at B. The end C slides on a swinging
link DE. When the angle BOA is 1200 find the angular velocity and angular
acceleration of DE.

B. Two shafts are connected by means of a Hooke’s joint. The angle between the 02
shafts is 200. What will be the angle turned by the driving shaft when: velocity
ratio is maximum, minimum and unity
