Emergency Response Card

Sodium Chlorite Na Cl O2 7.5%

Product Clear to slightly yellow have a slight chlorine odor.

Nature of Hazard 1. May explode from friction, heat or contaminating.


2.These substance will accelerate burning when involved in a fire.
3. May ignite combustibles (wood, paper, oil, clothing, etc.).
4. React explosively with hydrocarbons (Fuels).
5. Containers may explode when heated.
6. Run off may create fire or explosion hazard.
7. Inhalation, ingestion or contact (skin, eyes) with vapors, dusts or substance may cause severe injury, burns
or death.
8. Fire may produce irritating and corrosive gases.
9. Toxic fumes or dust may accumulate in confined areas (basement, tanks, hopper, etc.).
10. Run off from fire control or dilution water may be corrosive and cause pollution.

PPE 1. Protective clothing (SCBA).


2. Goggles.
3. Rubber gloves.
4. Face Protection.

Emergency Response Actions

First Aid 1. Move victim to fresh air.


2. Call emergency medical service.
3. Give artificial respiration if victim is not breathing.
4. Administer oxygen if breathing is difficult.
5. Remove and isolate contaminated clothing and shoes.
6. Contaminated Clothing may be a fire risk when dry.
7. In case of contact with substance, immediately flush skin or eyes with running water of at least 20 minutes
8. Keep victim calm and warm.

Fire 1. Isolate for 800 meters in all directions; also, consider initial evacuation for 800 meters in all directions.
2. Flood fire area with water from a distance.
3. Use water. Do not use dry chemicals or foams. CO2 or Halon® may provide limited control.
4. Do not get water inside containers: a violent reaction may occur.
5. Move containers from the fire area if you can do it without risk
6. Dike fire-control water for late disposal.
7. Always stay away from tanks or containers engulfed in fire.

Spillage 1. As an immediate precautionary measure, isolate spill or leak area in all directions for at least 50 meters.
2. Keep combustibles (wood, paper, oil, etc.) away from spilled material.
3. Do not touch damaged containers or spilled material unless wearing appropriate protective clothing.
4. Use water spray to reduce vapors.
5. Prevent entry to waterways, sewer, basements or confined areas.
6. Flush area with flooding quantities of water.
