Age of Uzziah (Azariah) when struck by Leprosy and Confined,

OPA2018July

Age of Uzziah (Azariah) when struck by Leprosy and confined was

determined by (D, E, L, M, O) By D, Uzz reign started at age 16, so Uzz
age when coRex start was 50+16=66Y old & age 68 when he die, so
coRex was 2-4Y. CoRex start at Jothan age 21. Perhaps Jotham was
coRex with Uzziah between 3 to 4 years? See also: X,Y.

A simple difference between ascension and regal years cannot adequately

explain the sundry offsets of years given in the bible chronology of kings
from Jeroboam2 unto end of Hoshea. The critical element in this dilemma
are the years around Uzziah (Azariah). Only by adding in undeclared years
of 'no king' or noRex is an adequate description found. This is plausible as
scripture generally only declares years of kingship. The noRex idea
justifies the 430 year prophesy of Eziekiel 4`1-6. Where are told the total
years from Solomon defection unto the captivity. Again, to match 430
years with the given chronology, auxiliary means are necessary and
justified.
These items are detailed below on a basis of infallible and unerring bible
scripture.

*****
from 15thY (item 2B, start of Jeroboam2) of Amaziah's 29Y reign (item
2A, Amaziah's term) to 38Yr of Uzziah (Azariah, item 2G, death of
Jeroboam2), there be (29-15)+38=52Yr by Judaea Kings, but there is just
a 14Yr span of Jeroboam2 rule and 12.6 sundry Samarian kings during
time of Uzz'h. So we find the span in Judaea Kings to be 25.4 Yr more
than the Israel kings time.
Why??? was Amaziah incapacitated at age 40 & Judah have unmentioned
co-Rex?, or was there an unmentioned term in Samaria without a King?
*******

Jotham back to start of Uzziah, (Azariah), the years are found by

Samarian Kings:

The listed times of Uzziah, (D) plus Jotham, (L) are 52+16=68Y, if no
coRex years.
Basis: In 27Y of Jeroboam2 starts Uzziah, item2C
The years of Jeroboam2 as king are given as 41, (item.2B). In 27Y of
Jeroboam2 starts Uzziah, item2C. So the remaining years of Jeroboam2
reign, in Uzziah era, are (41-27=14)

Then look to years of Samarian kings from end of Jeroboam2 unto Pekah.
These being: Zechariah, (G), 0.5Y; Shallum, (H), 1mo; Menahem, (iI), 10Y;
Pekahiah, (J), 2Y; or a total of 12.6Y. The residual years of Jeroboam2 in
Uzziah reign are 14Y. These years of Israel kings under Uzziah tally to:
14+12.6=26.6.

Next add in the 2 years of Pekah when Jotham starts, item:N. This yields
2+26.6=28.6Y, of Samarian kings under Uzziah time. Some explain this by
saying, "Jotham, became a coRex in Uzziah's 28.6th Year". King Uzziah
reign is listed, D, as 52Y, then deduct years of Samarian kings or
52-28.6=23.4Y. Jotham was 25Yo at ascent. This would make Jotham a
coRex at unlikely age 1.6Yo, (25-23.4).

Tally total Samarian king years under Uzziah to confirm total Uzziah year.
The tally is Jerob2 residual years parallel to Uzziah: 14Y + Misc. Samaria
kings, 12.6Y: comes to just 26.6 years. Unless a gap of no Samaria kings is
inserted, then this method comes up short. Borrow Ussher's concept of
"no king" and get 25.4Y noRex.
-------

Another way is where Uzz starts in Jero2's 14thY, A&B, so we have

41-14=27Y add in minor Samaria kings (G,H,iI,J) of 12.6Y plus 2 years
(N), of Pekah comes to 42Y for Uzz by years of Samaria kings. But the
stated years of Uzziah are 52. So without a gap, this is not a viable
solution.
-------

Count back from the 52nd year of Azariah:

So G, H, I, J, K brings us back to Uzziah 38th year when Zachariah
started as king in Samaria. Items K & N, indicate perhaps Jotham had less
than one year of co-Rex, in the last or 52nd year of Uzziah. That would
imply Azariah folly was at end of his reign, year 52. Next are the cocurrent
years of Jerob2 and Uzziah, 14Y. Look at:
B) 2Kgs14`23 In the 15th year of Amaziah, the son of Joash king of
Judah, Jeroboam2 (began to rule)
Since Amaziah was king 29Y (item A), there were 14 years of
Jerob2 rule in Samaria when Uzziah became king. This is
problematic for the result of: G, H, I, J, K or Uzziah start in
Jerob2's 5th year.
C) 2Kgs15`1 In the 27th year of Jeroboam2 king of Israel, began
Azariah son of Amaziah king of Judah to reign.
Ussher's resolution to the dilemma of B, C, G, H, I, J, K , (given in
his para.563), is to declare there were 11 years of no king
between end of Jerob2 and Zachariah. This is plausible as
scripture generally only declares years of kingship. By the 'no-
king' device, item C aligns closely with items: G, H, I, J, K.
Ussher further resolves item B in para.552&546 with the more
common device of coRex. Ussher's well known chronology,
Annales & et-ceta were published around 1650.

Start Uzziah reign in Jerob2's 27Y by Ussher:

This agree with Ussher's use of no-Rex years. The method is diagrammed
in the graphics. Ussher's BC dates were transformed to regal years, rY.
The bible uses a number system of no zero (similar to Roman numerals),
i.e., zeroth year is 1st regal year, rY. Uzziah 1st year begins in the same
year of Amaziah's death. In Uzz's 90th rY(had he lived so long) or 89Y
from Uzz's ascent, Samaria was carried away. The 90th rY being as per
note P. Five years prior to Samaria's fall was death of Ahaz. Ussher gives
Hezekiah ascent as coRex with Ahaz as 6 years prior to Uzz's 90th rY.
Ahaz's 12thY is listed in the 81st rY. In the 72nd rY is Hoshea first year,
Pekah's 20thY, & Ahaz's 4th. Listed 68Y from Uzz ascent, 31Y before
Samaria's fall is Ahaz ascent in 17thY of Pekah. Uzziah's death in his 52nd
rY (51Y from ascent) begins Jotham's 16Y reign & reckoning Uzz's 52nd
year, 49 years from ascent, in Uzz's 50th rY, starts Pekah's 20Y reign. In
Uzz's 39Y, (40rY) Men-ahem began his 10 year reign. Ussher proposed a
short internment era for Uzz, perhaps 1-2 years. Disregarded Para584
contradicts many others.

(2) Years of kings around Uzziah/Azariah, son of Amaziah:

A) 2Chrn25`1 Amaziah was 25 years old when he began to reign, and
he reigned 29 years in Jerusalem.

B) 2Kgs14`23 In the 15th year of Amaziah, ben Joash king of Judah,

Jeroboam2 ben Joash, king of Israel, began to reign in Samaria, and
reigned 41 years. (15thY of Amaziah is the -14Y (15-29(A)) of Uzziah
& +41Y reign of Jerob2 is 27thY of Jeroboam2, as per item C)

C) 2Kgs15`1 In the 27th year of Jeroboam2, king of Israel, began

Azariah ben-Amaziah, king of Judah, to reign. (52Yrs)(Jerob2 end at
41, (B) so 41-27=14thY of Azariah/Uzziah, as per B). Items B&C give
no indications of the oft touted calendar offsets between Samaria &
Judah.
D) 2Chrn26`3,16 Years old, 16, was Uzziah (Azariah), when he began
to reign, and he reigned 52 years in Jerusalem... But when he was
strong, his heart was lifted up to his destruction: for he transgressed

E) 2Chrn26`21 And Uzziah the king was a leper unto the day of his
death, and dwelt in a several house, being a leper; for he was cut off
from the house of the Lord: and Jotham his son was over the king's
house, judging the people of the land.

F) 2Chrn26`23 So Uzziah slept with his fathers, and they buried him
with his fathers in the field of the burial which belonged to the kings;
for they said, He is a leper: and Jotham his son reigned in his stead.

G) 2Kgs15`8 In the 38th year of Azariah (Uzziah), king of Judah, did

Zachariah ben-Jeroboam2, reign over Israel in Samaria 6Months.
{here we find a gap of 24Y between 14thY of Uzziah when Jerob2 end
and start of Zachariah, (38-14).}

H) 2Kgs15`13 Shallum ben-Jabesh began to reign in the 39th year of

Uzziah king of Judah; and he reigned a full month in Samaria.

I) 2Kgs15`17 In the 39th year of Azariah, king of Judah, began

Menahem ben-Gadi to reign over Israel, and reigned 10 years in
Samaria.

J) 2Kgs15`23 In the 50th year of Azaria, king of Judah, Pekahiah ben-

Menahem began to reign over Israel in Samaria, and reigned 2 years.
{add years of G,H,iI,J=0.5+0.1+10+2=12.6 & subtract from 52, gives
39.4Y, but Jerob2 end in 14Y Uzz. So gap=39.4-12.6=27Y, use avg of
25.4Y, check: 14+25.4+12.6=52Y.

K) 2Kgs15`27 In the 52nd year of Azariah, king of Judah, Pekah ben-

Remaliah began to reign over Israel in Samaria, and reigned 20 years.

L) 2Chrn27`1 & 8-9 Jotham was 25 years old when he began to reign,
and he reigned 16 years in Jerusalem... He was 25 years old when he
began to reign, and reigned 16 years in Jerusalem. And Jotham slept
with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David: and Ahaz his
son reigned in his stead. … (Jotham's successor was Ahaz.)

M) 2Kgs15`30 And Hoshea ben-Elah made a conspiracy against

Pekah ben-Remaliah, and smote him, and slew him, and reigned in his
stead, in the 20th year of Jotham ben-Uzziah (Azariah), . ... {{by (L)
Jothan was soleRex only 16Y, implied here is coRex started 4Y prior to
soleRex. An alternative 2, "20th year of Jotham" could refer to Jothan
age. But Alt2 would push Pekah start prior to 52Y of Uzziah, violating
item (K).}}

N) 2Kgs15`32-33 In the 2nd year of Pekah ben-Remaliah king of

Israel, began Jotham ben-Uzziah king of Judah to reign. Years old 25
was he when he began to reign, and he reigned 16 years in
Jerusalem...

O) 2Kgs16`1-2 &2Chrn28`1 In the 17th year of Pekah ben-Remaliah,

Ahaz ben-Jotham king of Judah began to reign. Years old 20 was
Ahaz when he began to reign, and reigned 16 years in Jerusalem.
(this could imply 1Y coRex of Ahaz under Jothan) 2Chrn28`27 And
Ahaz slept with his fathers, and ... Hezekiah his son reigned in his
stead.

P) 2Chrn29`1 Hezekiah began to reign when he was 25 years old, and

he reigned 29 years in Jerusalem. ... 2Kgs18`10 And at the end of 3
years they took it: even in the 6th year of Hezekiah, that is the 9th
year of Hoshea king of Israel, Samaria was taken. (from Jotham's
ascent, N, unto carry away are: 6(P)+16(O)+16(L)=38Y, based upon
Judah kings. By Samarian kings 9(P)+(20-2), N, K)=27Y, a difference
of 11Y)

Q) Is7`1 And it came to pass in the days of Ahaz ben-Jotham, ben-

Uzziah, king of Judah, that Rezin the king of Syria, and Pekah ben-
Remaliah, king of Israel, went up toward Jerusalem to war against it,
but could not prevail against it.

R) 2Kgs17`1&18`1;2;10, In the 12th year of Ahaz, king of Judah, began

Hoshea ben-Elah to reign in Samaria over Israel 9 years... Now it
came to pass in the 3rd year of Hoshea ben-Elah king of Israel, that
Hezekiah (ben-Ahaz king of Judah) began to reign... at the end of 3
years they took it: even in the 6th year of Hezekiah, that is the 9th
year of Hoshea.., Samaria was taken. (by O 29Y{17+12} of Pekah, by
K Pekah only go 20Y) {...(for 29Y from age25) }

Orr's Encyl. Notes

The chronology of the reign of Uzziah presents peculiar difficulties, some
of which, probably, cannot be satisfactorily solved. Reckoning upward
from the fall of Samaria in 9th year of Hoshea king of Israel, {the 6th year
of Hezekiah} the Biblical data would suggest 38Y prior was the first year
of Jotham. If, as... generally conceded, Jothamʼs regnal years are
reckoned from the commencement of his regency, when his father had
been stricken with leprosy, and if, as synchronisms seem to indicate,
Uzziah was about 52-11=41 years of age at this time, .... (On the other
hand, it is known that Isaiah, whose call was in the year of Uzziahʼs death,
Isa 6`1, was already exercising his ministry in the reign of Jotham, Isa 1`1.)
Another note of time is furnished by the statement that the earliest
utterance of Amos the prophet was "two years before the
earthquake" (Am 1`1). This earthquake, we are told by Zechariah, was "in
the days of Uzziah, king of Judah" (Zec 14`5). Josephus likewise
embodies a tradition that the earthquake occurred at the moment of the
kingʼs entry into the temple (Ant., IX, x, 4). ... (Jeroboamʼs date is put
lower by others). In 2 Kings 15`8 Uzziah is referred to as giving data for
the accessions of the northern kings (15`8 Zechariah; 15`13, Shallum;
15`17, Menahem; 15`23, Pekahiah; 15`27, Pekah), but it is difficult to fit
these synchronisms into any scheme of chronology, if taken as regnal
years. W. Shaw Caldecott

Kings of Samaria
Jehoash (aka Joash, not to be confused with same named king of Judah)
And Jehoash slept with his fathers, and was buried in Samaria with the
kings of Israel; and Jeroboam2 his son reigned in his stead. In the 37th
year of Joash king of Judah began Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz to reign
over Israel in Samaria, and reigned 16 years. (my note: per Ussher,
Another non counted co-Rex)
Jeroboam2 king of Israel
In the 15th year of Amaziah (29Y reign) the son of Joash king of Judah
Jeroboam2 the son of Joash king of Israel began to reign in Samaria, and
reigned 41 years. This indicates he has 14Y with Amaziah, leaving
(41-14)Y=27Y as contemporary of Uzziah.
Zachariah
In the 38th year of Azariah king of Judah did Zachariah the son of
Jeroboam2 reign over Israel in Samaria 6 months. And Shallum the son of

against and killed by Hoshea
Hoshea, Last king in Samaria, Assassinates Pekah and usurps the throne,
Becomes subject to Assyria, Conspires against Assyria and is imprisoned,
Last king of Israel
NoRex of Samaria kings per Ussher, but not use Ussher 5.4Y

Another Alternative to Jotham coRex Years with Uzziah:

i) Possible coRex of Jotham & Ahaz?,
O)2Kgs16`1-2 &2Chrn28`1 In the 17th year of Pekah ben-
Remaliah, Ahaz ben-Jotham king of Judah began to reign..N)
2Kgs15`32-33 In the 2nd year of Pekah ben-Remaliah king of
Israel, began Jotham ben-Uzziah king of Judah to reign. Years
old 25 was he when he began to reign, and he reigned 16 years in
Jerusalem...
Using N, the end of Jotham on Pekah's timeline comes to 16+2=18Y.
But by O, Ahaz is coRex with Jotham a year?
ii) Four Year coRex of Jotham-Uzziah,
M) 2Kgs15`30 And Hoshea ben-Elah made a conspiracy against
Pekah ben-Remaliah, and smote him, and slew him, and reigned
in his stead, in the 20th year of Jotham ben-Uzziah (Azariah) &
L) 2Chrn27`1 & 8-9 Jotham was 25 years old when he began to
reign, and he reigned 16 years in Jerusalem...
One view of Jotham's 20thY would be to look forward on Pekah
timeline. Then by L&M four years are added to Jotham rule. By K,
Pekah start on Y52 of Uzz, then by N, Jotham start in Pekah Y2 and
20Y forward is the 74thY of Uzziah. But by L, Jotham reign 16Y, so 74
less 16 starts Jotham in Y58 of Uzz reign. This then contradicts K.
But if work back 20Y, then no contradiction. For the coRex of Jotham
& Uzz is mentioned by E.
X)Counting back by L&M: coRex of Jotham with Uzz. 20-16=4Y
Z)Age of Uzz at CoRex by Pekah: use O, Ahaz start Pekah 17Y &
this Uzz regal Y of 52+17=69, less 20Y terminus of Jotham reign,
M, gives 49th regal year of Uzz. By D, Uzz reign started at age
16, so Uzz age when coRex start was 65Y old & age 68 when he
die, so coRex was 3Y. CoRex start at Jothan age 21.
Perhaps Jotham was coRex with Uzziah between 3 to 4 years? (Jewish
sources give Jotham a 14Y coRex with Uzz. Many combinations are
possible. The more direct & closer to end of Uzz reign seem more in-line
with D & more accurate.)

Between coRex and noRex practically any number of total years of kings
from Solomon death unto "take all away", are possible. This why auxiliary
methods, such as 430Y of Ezek4 and 2Chron36`21 were provided. For
these two verses tell the total years of sinful kings and the punishment
were 500 years.
For 70sabbaths(7Y/1sabbath+1JubileeY/7sabbath)=500Y and 500Y-70Y
punishment is Ezek4's 430Y of sinful kings. The 430Y includes Solomon
latter years, when he forsake Sabbath keeping in favor of other gods,
2Kgs23`13.
