Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ

FOR THE MONTH OF JUNE

I. PROCLAMATION STATEMENT: I will always be thankful!

II. VALUE: Gratitude

III. OBJECTIVES:

To remember with gratitude how Jesus saved us from our sins by celebrating the Holy Eucharist
regularly with the family.

IV. SCRIPTURE READING: Mark 14:12-16, 22-26 (NABRE)

Jesus Shares his Last Supper with his Disciples

On the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, when they sacrificed the Passover lamb, his
disciples said to him, “Where do you want us to go and prepare for you to eat the Passover?” He
sent two of his disciples and said to them, “Go into the city and a man will meet you, carrying a
jar of water. Follow him. Wherever he enters, say to the master of the house, ‘The teacher says,
“Where is my guest room where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?”’ Then he will show
you a large upper room furnished and ready. Make the preparations for us there.” The disciples
then went off, entered the city, and found it just as he had told them; and they prepared the
Passover.

While they were eating, he took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them, and said,
“Take it; this is my body.” Then he took a cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, and they all
drank from it. He said to them, “This is my blood of the covenant, which will be shed for many.
Amen, I say to you, I shall not drink again the fruit of the vine until the day when I drink it new in
the kingdom of God.” Then, after singing a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.

Storyline
(NOTE: The Speaker can use the storyline to better explain the Gospel to the kids. Be creative! It
may be delivered interactively through photos or role playing.)

 It was the Feast of the Passover! Jesus and his disciples were busy preparing to celebrate
this feast. (Remember what a disciple is? It’s what is called to a person who follows Jesus).
 Do you know what the Feast of the Passover is all about? The Feast of the Passover is a very
important day for the people of Israel called Israelites. They remember how God saved
them from being slaves in Egypt.

 But that night became even more special because while the disciples were eating, Jesus took
the bread, blessed it by praying over it, broke it into many pieces and shared it with them.
And he said these very important words, “Take it. This is my body.”

 Then he took a cup of wine. He gave thanks to God while holding the cup. He took a sip and
shared it to them. Then he said, “This is my blood, which will be shed for many.”

 On the same night, Jesus told his disciples how he will save us all from our sins. He will save
us from our sins by dying on the cross for us. And do you know why Jesus wanted to save us
from our sins? Yes! It is because of his great love for us.

 Up to this day, we are reminded of God’s great love for us. Do you know when? It is when
we celebrate the Holy Mass or the Holy Eucharist. When the Priest prays over the bread and
wine and says “This is my body… this is my blood…”, the bread and wine are changed into
Jesus’ body and blood. We are reminded that Jesus gave up his life on the cross.

 Let us always be thankful to God for this. Can we do that? Amen!

V. JUNIOR KIDS ACTIVITY – Colourful Bread

Materials:

Condensed Milk
Food Colouring (red, blue and yellow)
White Loaf Bread
Paper Cups
1 Tablespoon
Popsicle sticks
Used News Papers (to cover the floor from spills)
Tissue or Table Napkins
Water and Soap (for cleaning their hands)

Steps:

1. Start by telling the kids that they will design their own sandwich. They will eat this
afterwards.
2. Ask the kids to form groups of 5 to 6 members each.
3. Let the kids wash their hands.
4. The ROCK facilitators will prepare three cups for each group.
5. Pour 2 tablespoons of condensed milk in each cup.
6. Drop in a few drops of food colouring. Mix well. The coloured milk will be the ‘paint’ for the
bread.
7. Distribute the table napkins, Popsicle sticks and the bread to each kid.
8. Let the kids use the Popsicle sticks to spread the coloured milk on the bread.
9. Have the kids draw pictures or designs on their own bread.
10. After the activity, guide them to the washroom.
11. Ask the kids to share their masterpiece to the group.

VI. PEP TALK

 Did you enjoy decorating your bread? How does it feel to prepare your own sandwich? Was
is difficult? Now who do you want to share your special sandwich with?

 You know, every day, our parents really try their best to prepare a meal for us. What is your
favorite food that mom or dad cooks for you? You know why they do it? They do it because
they love us so much. We must never forget to thank them for it.

 In today’s Gospel, we also heard how Jesus offered his body and blood, in the form of the
bread and wine, in order to save us from our sins. Now, do you know why Jesus did it?
That’s right! It is because he loves us so much.

 Up to this day, during the celebration of every Holy Mass, Jesus continues to offer to us his
body and blood in the form of the bread and wine.

 Therefore, let us always be excited to receive Jesus through the Holy Eucharist. Let us
always remember to thank him for his great love for us. And when the mass is finished, let
us joyfully share Jesus and his love to others.

VII. SUGGESTED SONG: Oh, I Love You

VIII. FEATURED SAINT: Saint Paul, The Apostle

Feast Day: June 29

 St. Paul is one of the most important of all the

saints. He wrote many books that have helped
the early Church grow.

 Originally, he was called Saul, a Roman citizen

and a Pharisee. He used to be an enemy of Jesus
and his followers.

 However, Saul experienced a powerful miracle

that led him to believe Jesus while on the road to
Damascus. He was baptized and became known
as Paul.

 St. Paul travelled the world to share about

Jesus. He is the patron saint of missionaries,
evangelists, writers, journalists, authors, public
workers, rope and saddle makers, and tent
makers.

IX. TAKE HOME ASSIGNMENT: My Family’s Best on Sundays

Materials:

Old (or new) notebook to serve as the family journal

Pens
Colouring materials
Glue

Instructions:

1. This month’s assignment is for both kids and parents to do. It is an activity for the whole
family.

2. First, the family will list down ways on how to prepare for Sunday Mass. Below are
examples:
o Study the Sunday Gospels in advance through the weekly Family Household.
o Wake up early to prepare your own clothes for the Mass.
o Be early at church so you could sit in the rows where you could hear and participate
well.
o Prepare your offertory.

3. Let the family list as many as they can commit to do.

4. At the end of each month, the family must prepare a journal of their learning experience.
They must answer the following questions:
o Did you enjoy preparing for the Mass?
o What did your family learn during this experience?

5. The family can be creative in making their journal. They can paste photos of them taken
outside the Church. Or they can draw their family portrait. (See appendix)

6. The name of their Parish and Parish Priest must also be included in the journal.

X. PARENTS FORUM

 Most of the time, kids are not given opportunities to help in the kitchen because, most often
than not, adults think that they would just mess around or they might hurt themselves.

 Today, your children will experience planning and preparing a special sandwich. They will be
using their creativity and imagination for this activity.

 They will also learn how important your roles are in preparing meals for them each day.
They will be taught to appreciate the effort, time and love you exert every time you prepare
their meals. They will also understand that more than anything, you are doing this because
you love them.

 In relation to today’s Gospel, Jesus as well offers his very best, his very body and blood, so
that we may all be saved because he loves us so much. Every time we take part in the
celebration of the Holy Eucharist, we remember this as the priest blesses the bread and
wine.

 And when we receive Holy Communion, we experience the very presence of Jesus in us. It is
very important, therefore, that we lead our children into the proper preparation and regular
reception of this sacrament and to joyfully thank Jesus for it.

 Your children will be given a Take Home Assignment which is meant to help them and the
whole family prepare more every time they participate in the celebration of the Holy
Eucharist. Let us lead our family in this assignment.
