Lesson Title: Naidoc week Date:25/6/18

Syllabus Outcomes:

EN4-5C – Students think imaginatively, creatively, interpretively and critically about information, ideas and
arguments to respond to and compose texts

EN4-8D- Students identify, consider and appreciate cultural expression in texts.

Intentions for the lesson:


Introduce NAIDOC week to students and explain that over next 5 lesson we will be focusing on the topic “Because
of her, we can”. That we will be looking at influential Australian women, particularly Aboriginal women.

Introduction: 5-8 minutes


Present students with the understanding of Naidoc Week and what it consist of. That in the lessons leading over the
next week they are to create an informative page about an Australian or Aboriginal woman that they have chosen to
investigate. Reminder if any student would like to submit their poem to the Dorothea Mackellar competition come
up to the teacher at the end of the lesson. Lastly give a warning to students if they are seen on their phones they will
have the electronics taken off them.

Reflection: Students worked well in understanding and respecting the concept of Naidoc week and were able to
complete their research in pair on their chosen Aboriginal woman. Consequences were made when students were
off task and 2 students had to move due to being disruptive. Overall students were able to write down what was on
the board, join in class discussion and complete the worksheet provided whilst researching their influential woman.
